14.

1 <이고니온> 이고니온에서도 바울과 바나바는 유대 사람의 회당에 들어가 복음을 전했습니다. 그러자 많은 수의 유대 사람들과 이방 사람들이 믿게 됐습니다.

1 The same thing happened in Iconium. Paul and Barnabas went to the Jewish synagogue and preached with such power that a great number of both Jews and Greeks became believers.

2 그러나 믿기를 마다하는 유대 사람들은 이방 사람들을 선동해 형제들에 대해 나쁜 감정을 품게 했습니다.

2 Some of the Jews, however, spurned God's message and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against Paul and Barnabas.

3 바울과 바나바는 그곳에 오랫동안 머물면서 주를 의지해 담대히 말씀을 전했고, 주께서는 그들에게 표적과 기사를 행하는 능력을 베풀어 주셔서 주의 은혜의 말씀을 확증해 주셨습니다.

3 But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.

4 그 도시 사람들은 두 편으로 갈려 한쪽은 유대 사람들 편을, 다른 쪽은 사도들 편을 들었습니다.

4 But the people of the town were divided in their opinion about them. Some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

5 그런데 이방 사람들과 유대 사람들은 그들의 지도자들과 함께 바울과 바나바를 핍박하고 돌로 쳐 죽이려 했습니다.

5 Then a mob of Gentiles and Jews, along with their leaders, decided to attack and stone them.

6 그러나 그들은 이 사실을 알고서 루가오니아 지방에 속한 두 도시인 루스드라와 더베와 그 근방으로 피신해

6 When the apostles learned of it, they fled to the region of Lycaonia?to the towns of Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding area.

7 그곳에서도 복음을 전했습니다.

7 And there they preached the Good News.

8 <루스드라와 더베> 루스드라에 발을 쓰지 못하는 장애를 가진 한 사람이 앉아 있었습니다. 그는 태어나면서부터 걸어 본 적이 전혀 없었습니다.

8 While they were at Lystra, Paul and Barnabas came upon a man with crippled feet. He had been that way from birth, so he had never walked. He was sitting

9 그는 바울이 말하는 것을 귀 기울여 듣고 있었습니다. 바울이 그를 유심히 보다가 그에게 치유받을 만한 믿음이 있는 것을 보고

9 and listening as Paul preached. Looking straight at him, Paul realized he had faith to be healed.

10 So Paul called to him in a loud voice, "Stand up!" And the man jumped to his feet and started walking.

11 When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in their local dialect, "These men are gods in human form!"

12 They decided that Barnabas was the Greek god Zeus and that Paul was Hermes, since he was the chief speaker.

13 Now the temple of Zeus was located just outside the town. So the priest of the temple and the crowd brought bulls and wreaths of flowers to the town gates, and they prepared to offer sacrifices to the apostles.

14 그러나 두 사도 바나바와 바울은 이 말을 듣고 옷을 찢으며 사람들 속으로 뛰어 들어가 외쳤습니다.

14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening, they tore their clothing in dismay and ran out among the people, shouting,

15 "사람들이여, 왜 이런 행동을 합니까? 우리도 여러분과 똑같은 사람입니다. 우리가 여러분에게 복음을 전하는 것은 여러분이 이런 헛된 것을 버리고 하늘과 땅과 바다와 그 안의 모든 것을 만드신 살아 계신 하나님께로 돌아오라고 하는 것입니다.

15 "Friends, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings-just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.

16 과거에는 하나님께서 모든 민족들이 제멋대로 가도록 내버려 두셨습니다.

16 In the past he permitted all the nations to go their own ways,

17 그렇다고 하나님께서 자신에 대해 증언하시지 않은 것은 아닙니다. 하나님께서는 자비를 베풀어 하늘에서 비를 내려 때가 되면 열매를 맺게 하시고 넉넉한 양식을 공급해 여러분의 마음을 기쁨으로 가득 채워 주셨습니다."

17 but he never left them without evidence of himself and his goodness. For instance, he sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts."

18 바나바와 바울은 이런 말로 자기들에게 제물을 바치지 못하도록 그들을 간신히 말릴 수 있었습니다.

18 But even with these words, Paul and Barnabas could scarcely restrain the people from sacrificing to them.

19 그때 안디옥과 이고니온에서 유대 사람들이 몰려와 사람들을 선동해 자기들 편으로 끌어들여 바울에게 돌을 던지게 했습니다. 그리고 바울이 죽은 줄 알고 그를 도시 밖으로 끌어냈습니다.

19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowds to their side. They stoned Paul and dragged him out of town, thinking he was dead.

20 그러나 제자들이 바울 주위에 모여들자 그가 일어나 다시 도시 안으로 들어갔습니다. 그다음 날 바울은 바나바와 함께 더베로 떠났습니다.

20 But as the believers gathered around him, he got up and went back into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.

21 <수리아 안디옥으로 돌아오다> 그들은 그 도시에서 복음을 전한 뒤 많은 제자들을 얻게 됐습니다. 그러고 나서 루스드라와 이고니온과 안디옥으로 되돌아가

21 After preaching the Good News in Derbe and making many disciples, Paul and Barnabas returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch of Pisidia,

22 제자들의 마음을 강하게 하고 늘 믿음에 머물러 있도록 격려해 주었습니다. 또 "우리가 하나님 나라에 들어가려면 우리가 마땅히 많은 고난을 겪어야 한다"라고 말했습니다.

22 where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.

23 바울과 바나바는 제자들을 위해 각 교회마다 장로들을 세워 기도하고 금식하며 자신들이 믿는 주께 그들을 부탁했습니다.

23 Paul and Barnabas also appointed elders in every church. With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.

24 그런 뒤에 그들은 비시디아를 통과해 밤빌리아에 들어갔다가

24 Then they traveled back through Pisidia to Pamphylia.

25 버가에서 말씀을 전하고 앗달리아로 내려갔습니다.

25 They preached the word in Perga, then went down to Attalia.

26 그리고 그들은 앗달리아에서 배를 타고 안디옥으로 돌아갔습니다. 이 안디옥은 그들이 선교 활동을 위해 자신들을 하나님의 은혜에 헌신했던 곳인데 이제 그 일을 성취한 것입니다.

26 Finally, they returned by ship to Antioch of Syria, where their journey had begun. The believers there had entrusted them to the grace of God to do the work they had now completed.

27 바울과 바나바는 안디옥에 도착해서 교회 신자들을 모으고 하나님께서 그들과 함께 행하신 모든 일과 하나님께서 어떻게 이방 사람들에게 믿음의 문을 여셨는지 보고했습니다.

27 Upon arriving in Antioch, they called the church together and reported everything God had done through them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles, too.

28 그러고 나서 그들은 제자들과 함께 오랫동안 그곳에 머물렀습니다.

28 And they stayed there with the believers for a long time.

1 <예루살렘 회의> 유대에서 몇몇 사람들이 안디옥으로 내려와 형제들을 가르쳤는데 "모세가 가르친 관례에 따라 할례를 받지 않는다면 구원을 받지 못한다"라고 했습니다.

1 While Paul and Barnabas were at Antioch of Syria, some men from Judea arrived and began to teach the believers： "Unless you are circumcised as required by the law of Moses, you cannot be saved."

2 이 말로 인해 바울과 바나바는 그들과 적지 않은 충돌과 논쟁을 벌였습니다. 그래서 안디옥 교회는 바울과 바나바를 세워 몇몇 신자들과 함께 예루살렘으로 보냈습니다. 사도들과 장로들은 이 문제를 어떻게 생각하는지 알아보려는 것이었습니다.

2 Paul and Barnabas disagreed with them, arguing vehemently. Finally, the church decided to send Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem, accompanied by some local believers, to talk to the apostles and elders about this question.

3 교회의 전송을 받고 여행을 떠난 그들은 가는 길에 페니키아와 사마리아 지방을 거치면서 이방 사람들이 어떻게 개종하게 됐는지를 전했습니다. 이 소식은 모든 형제들을 무척 기쁘게 했습니다.

3 The church sent the delegates to Jerusalem, and they stopped along the way in Phoenicia and Samaria to visit the believers. They told them?much to everyone's joy?that the Gentiles, too, were being converted.

4 그들은 예루살렘에 도착해 교회와 사도들과 장로들에게 환영을 받았습니다. 그러고 난 후 하나님께서 자신들을 통해 하신 모든 일을 그들에게 보고했습니다.

4 When they arrived in Jerusalem, Barnabas and Paul were welcomed by the whole church, including the apostles and elders. They reported everything God had done through them.

5 그때 바리새파에 속해 있다 신자가 된 몇몇 사람들이 일어나 말했습니다. "이방 사람들이 할례를 받고 모세의 율법을 지키도록 해야 합니다."

5 But then some of the believers who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees stood up and insisted, "The Gentile converts must be circumcised and required to follow the law of Moses."

6 사도들과 장로들이 이 문제를 논의하려고 함께 모였습니다.

6 So the apostles and elders met together to resolve this issue.

7 오랜 시간 동안 토론한 끝에 베드로가 일어나 그들에게 말했습니다. "형제들이여, 여러분도 알다시피 얼마 전에 하나님께서 여러분 가운데서 나를 선택해 이방 사람들도 내 입술을 통해 복음의 말씀을 듣고 믿게 하셨습니다.

7 At the meeting, after a long discussion, Peter stood and addressed them as follows： "Brothers, you all know that God chose me from among you some time ago to preach to the Gentiles so that they could hear the Good News and believe.

8 그 마음을 아시는 하나님께서는 우리에게 하셨던 것처럼 이방 사람들에게도 성령을 주셔서 그들을 인정하셨습니다.

8 God knows people's hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us.

9 하나님께서는 그 마음을 믿음으로 깨끗하게 하셔서 우리와 그들 사이에 차별을 두지 않으신 것입니다.

9 He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith.

10 그런데 여러분은 어째서 우리 조상이나 우리가 질 수 없었던 무거운 짐을 이방 신자들에게 지워서 하나님을 시험하려고 하십니까?

10 So why are you now challenging God by burdening the Gentile believers with a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors were able to bear?

11 우리는 그들과 마찬가지로 주 예수의 은혜로 구원받는다고 믿습니다."

11 We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus."

12 온 회중이 조용해지면서 바울과 바나바가 하는 말을 귀 기울여 들었습니다. 그들은 자신들을 통해 하나님께서 행하신 표적과 기사를 이야기했습니다.

12 Everyone listened quietly as Barnabas and Paul told about the miraculous signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.

13 그들이 이야기를 마치자 야고보가 받아 말했습니다. "형제들이여, 내 말을 들어 보십시오.

13 When they had finished, James stood and said, "Brothers, listen to me.

14 하나님께서 자기 이름을 위해 처음에 어떻게 이방 사람들 가운데 백성을 불러내 찾아오셨는가를 시몬 베드로가 말해 주었습니다.

14 Peter has told you about the time God first visited the Gentiles to take from them a people for himself.

15 예언자들의 말씀도 이것과 일치합니다. 기록되기를

15 And this conversion of Gentiles is exactly what the prophets predicted. As it is written.

16 '이 일 후에 내가 돌아와 다윗의 무너진 장막을 다시 지을 것이다. 폐허가 된 것을 내가 다시 짓고 내가 회복시킬 것이다.

16 'Afterward I will return and restore the fallen house of David. I will rebuild its ruins and restore it,

17 그러면 남은 사람들과 내 이름으로 일컬음받는 모든 이방 사람들이 주를 찾을 것이다.

17 so that the rest of humanity might seek the LORD, including the Gentiles? all those I have called to be mine. The LORD has spoken?

18 이것은 오래전부터 이 일을 알게 해 주신 여호와의 말씀이다' 라고 했습니다.

18 he who made these things known so long ago.'

19 그러므로 내 판단으로는 우리가 하나님께 돌아오는 이방 사람들을 괴롭게 해서는 안 된다고 생각합니다.

19 "And so my judgment is that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

20 다만 우상으로 더러워진 음식과 음행과 목매어 죽인 짐승의 고기와 피는 멀리하라고 편지하는 것이 좋겠습니다.

20 Instead, we should write and tell them to abstain from eating food offered to idols, from sexual immorality, from eating the meat of strangled animals, and from consuming blood.

21 오래전부터 모세의 율법이 각 도시에 전해져 안식일마다 회당에서 그것을 읽고 있기 때문입니다."

21 For these laws of Moses have been preached in Jewish synagogues in every city on every Sabbath for many generations."

22 <이방의 성도들에게 보내는 편지> 그러자 사도들과 장로들과 온 교회는 몇몇 사람들을 뽑아 바울과 바나바와 함께 안디옥으로 보내기로 결정했습니다. 그래서 뽑힌 사람은 형제들 가운데서 지도자인 바사바라고 하는 유다와 실라였습니다.

22 Then the apostles and elders together with the whole church in Jerusalem chose delegates, and they sent them to Antioch of Syria with Paul and Barnabas to report on this decision. The men chosen were two of the church leaders - Judas (also called Barsabbas) and Silas.

23 그들은 그 사람들 편에 다음과 같은 편지를 보냈습니다. "여러분의 형제인 사도들과 장로들이 안디옥과 시리아와 길리기아에 있는 이방의 형제들에게 문안드립니다.

23 This is the letter they took with them： "This letter is from the apostles and elders, your brothers in Jerusalem. It is written to the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia. Greetings!

24 우리 가운데 어떤 사람이 여러분에게 가서 우리가 시키지도 않은 말을 해서 여러분을 괴롭히고 여러분의 마음을 아프게 했다는 소식을 들었습니다.

24 "We understand that some men from here have troubled you and upset you with their teaching, but we did not send them!

25 그래서 우리가 몇 사람을 뽑아 사랑하는 우리의 형제 바나바와 바울과 함께 여러분에게 보내기로 우리 모두 합의했습니다.

25 So we decided, having come to complete agreement, to send you official representatives, along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 바나바와 바울은 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름을 위해 목숨을 건 사람들입니다.

26 who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 그러므로 우리는 이 편지의 내용이 사실임을 분명히 말해 줄 유다와 실라를 보냅니다.

27 We are sending Judas and Silas to confirm what we have decided concerning your question.

28 꼭 필수적인 사항 몇 가지 외에는 여러분에게 아무 짐도 지우지 않으려는 것이 성령의 뜻이며 또 우리의 뜻입니다.

28 "For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay no greater burden on you than these few requirements.

29 곧 우상에게 바쳐진 음식과 피와 목매어 죽인 짐승의 고기와 음행만은 멀리하십시오. 이런 조항만 잘 지키면 되겠습니다. 평안하십시오."

29 You must abstain from eating food offered to idols, from consuming blood or the meat of strangled animals, and from sexual immorality. If you do this, you will do well. Farewell."

30 그들은 전송을 받고 안디옥으로 내려가 신자들을 불러 모은 후 편지를 전해 주었습니다.

30 The messengers went at once to Antioch, where they called a general meeting of the believers and delivered the letter.

31 그 사람들은 이것을 읽고 그 격려의 말씀에 기뻐했습니다.

31 And there was great joy throughout the church that day as they read this encouraging message.

32 유다와 실라도 예언자였기 때문에 여러 가지 말로써 그 형제들을 격려하고 힘을 북돋워 주었습니다.

32 Then Judas and Silas, both being prophets, spoke at length to the believers, encouraging and strengthening their faith.

33 그들은 안디옥에 얼마 동안 머물러 있다가 평안히 가라는 형제들의 전송을 받고 그들을 파송한 예루살렘으로 돌아갔습니다.

33 They stayed for a while, and then the believers sent them back to the church in Jerusalem with a blessing of peace.

35 Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch. They and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord there.

36 <바울과 바나바가 갈라서다> 며칠이 지나자 바울이 바나바에게 말했습니다. "우리가 주의 말씀을 전했던 도시마다 모두 다시 방문해 그들이 어떻게 지내고 있는지 알아봅시다."

36 After some time Paul said to Barnabas, "Let's go back and visit each city where we previously preached the word of the Lord, to see how the new believers are doing."

37 바나바는 마가라고도 하는 요한을 함께 데리고 갈 생각이었지만

37 Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark.

38 바울은 그를 데려가는 것이 현명한 처사가 아니라고 생각했습니다. 마가 요한은 전에 밤빌리아에서 그들을 떠나 그 사역에 끝까지 함께하지 않았기 때문입니다.

38 But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work.

39 Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus.

40 바울은 실라를 선택해 주의 은혜를 간구하는 형제들의 환송을 받으면서 안디옥을 떠났습니다.

40 Paul chose Silas, and as he left, the believers entrusted him to the Lord's gracious care.

41 바울은 시리아와 길리기아를 거쳐 가면서 교회들을 강건케 했습니다.

41 Then he traveled throughout Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches there.

1 <바울이 디모데를 데리고 가다> 바울은 더베에 갔다가 루스드라로 갔습니다. 그곳에는 디모데라는 제자가 살고 있었습니다. 그 어머니는 유대 사람으로서 믿는 사람이었지만 그 아버지는 그리스 사람이었습니다.

1 Paul went first to Derbe and then to Lystra, where there was a young disciple named Timothy. His mother was a Jewish believer, but his father was a Greek.

2 디모데는 루스드라와 이고니온의 형제들에게 칭찬받는 사람이었습니다.

2 Timothy was well thought of by the believers in Lystra and Iconium,

3 바울은 전도 여행에 그를 데려가고 싶었습니다. 그래서 그 지역에 사는 유대 사람들 때문에 그에게 할례를 주었습니다. 그것은 그의 아버지가 그리스 사람이라는 사실을 그들 모두가 알고 있었기 때문입니다.

3 so Paul wanted him to join them on their journey. In deference to the Jews of the area, he arranged for Timothy to be circumcised before they left, for everyone knew that his father was a Greek.

4 그들은 여러 도시들을 다니며 예루살렘의 사도들과 장로들이 결정한 규정을 신자들에게 전하며 지키게 했습니다.

4 Then they went from town to town, instructing the believers to follow the decisions made by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem.

5 이렇게 해서 교회들은 믿음 안에서 더욱 굳건해지고 그 수가 날마다 늘어났습니다.

5 So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day.

6 <바울이 마케도니아 사람의 환상을 보다> 성령께서 아시아 지방에 말씀 전하는 것을 막으셨기 때문에 바울과 그 일행은 부르기아와 갈라디아 지방을 거쳐

6 Next Paul and Silas traveled through the area of Phrygia and Galatia, because the Holy Spirit had prevented them from preaching the word in the province of Asia at that time.

7 무시아 지방 가까이 이르러 비두니아로 들어가려고 했습니다. 그러나 예수의 영이 허락하지 않으셨습니다.

7 Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there.

8 그래서 그들은 무시아를 지나 드로아로 내려가게 됐습니다.

8 So instead, they went on through Mysia to the seaport of Troas.

9 한밤중에 바울은 마케도니아 사람이 서서 "마케도니아로 와서 우리를 도와주시오"라고 간청하는 환상을 보았습니다.

9 That night Paul had a vision： A man from Macedonia in northern Greece was standing there, pleading with him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us!"

10 바울이 이 환상을 본 후에 우리는 그들에게 복음을 전파하라고 하나님께서 부르셨다고 확신하고 즉시 마케도니아로 떠날 준비를 했습니다.

10 So we decided to leave for Macedonia at once, having concluded that God was calling us to preach the Good News there.

11 <빌립보에서 루디아가 복음을 받아들이다> 우리는 드로아에서 바다로 나와 배를 타고 사모드라게로 곧장 갔다가 이튿날 네압볼리로 갔습니다.

11 We boarded a boat at Troas and sailed straight across to the island of Samothrace, and the next day we landed at Neapolis.

12 그곳에서 우리는 로마의 식민지로서 마케도니아 지방에서 첫째가는 도시인 빌립보에 들어갔습니다. 우리는 그곳에서 며칠을 머물렀습니다.

12 From there we reached Philippi, a major city of that district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. And we stayed there several days.

13 안식일에 우리는 혹 기도할 곳을 찾을 수 있지 않을까 하는 기대감으로 성문 밖 강가로 나갔습니다. 우리는 그곳에 앉아서 거기 모여 있던 여인들에게 말씀을 전했습니다.

13 On the Sabbath we went a little way outside the city to a riverbank, where we thought people would be meeting for prayer, and we sat down to speak with some women who had gathered there.

14 말씀을 듣던 사람들 가운데 루디아라는 여인이 있었습니다. 그 여인은 두아디라 도시에서 온 자주색 옷감 장수로서 하나님을 경외하는 사람이었습니다. 주께서 그 마음을 열어 바울의 말에 귀 기울이게 하셨습니다.

14 One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.

15 루디아는 그 집안 식구들과 함께 세례를 받고 "저를 참된 신자로 여기신다면 제 집에 오셔서 머물러 주십시오" 하고 간청하면서 우리를 자기 집으로 데리고 갔습니다.

15 She was baptized along with other members of her household, and she asked us to be her guests. "If you agree that I am a true believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my home." And she urged us until we agreed.

16 <바울과 실라가 옥에 갇히다> 어느 날 우리가 기도하는 곳으로 가다가 귀신 들린 한 여종을 만나게 됐습니다. 그 아이는 점을 쳐서 자기 주인들에게 아주 많은 돈을 벌어 주고 있었습니다.

16 One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a demon-possessed slave girl. She was a fortune-teller who earned a lot of money for her masters.

17 이 아이는 바울과 우리를 따라와서 "이 사람들은 지극히 높으신 하나님의 종들로 당신들에게 구원의 길을 전하고 있다"라고 외쳤습니다.

17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved."

18 이 아이가 며칠 동안이나 이렇게 계속하자 참다못한 바울이 돌아서서 귀신에게 말했습니다. "예수 그리스도의 이름으로 내가 명한다. 그 아이에게서 당장 나오라!" 바로 그 순간 귀신이 그 아이에게서 나갔습니다.

18 This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and said to the demon within her, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And instantly it left her.

19 그 여종의 주인들은 자기들의 돈 벌 소망이 사라진 것을 알고 바울과 실라를 붙잡아 시장에 있는 관리들에게 끌고 갔습니다.

19 Her masters' hopes of wealth were now shattered, so they grabbed Paul and Silas and dragged them before the authorities at the marketplace.

20 바울과 실라를 로마 관리들 앞에 데려다 놓고 말했습니다. "이 사람들은 유대 사람으로서 우리 도시에 소란을 일으켰습니다.

20 "The whole city is in an uproar because of these Jews!" they shouted to the city officials.

21 우리 로마 사람들이 받아들이거나 실천할 수 없는 풍습을 전하고 있습니다."

21 "They are teaching customs that are illegal for us Romans to practice."

22 모여 있던 사람들도 가세해 바울과 실라를 공격하자 로마 관리들은 그들의 옷을 벗기고 매질하라고 명령했습니다.

22 A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods.

23 관리들은 그들을 심하게 때린 뒤 감옥에 던져 넣고는 간수에게 그들을 단단히 지키라고 명령했습니다.

23 They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn't escape.

24 이런 명령을 받은 간수는 그들을 깊숙한 감방에 가두고 발에는 쇠고랑을 채워 두었습니다.

24 So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks.

25 한밤중쯤 됐을 때 바울과 실라가 기도하며 하나님께 찬송을 부르자 다른 죄수들이 귀 기울여 듣고 있었습니다.

25 Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.

26 그런데 갑자기 큰 지진이 일어나 감옥이 기반부터 흔들렸습니다. 곧바로 감옥 문이 모두 열리고 죄수들을 묶고 있던 쇠사슬도 다 풀렸습니다.

26 Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!

27 간수가 잠깨어 일어나 감옥 문이 모두 열린 것을 보자 죄수들이 도망친 줄로 생각하고 칼을 뽑아 자살하려고 했습니다.

27 The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself.

28 그때 바울이 큰 소리로 외쳤습니다. "당신 몸을 상하게 하지 마시오! 우리가 다 여기 있소!"

28 But Paul shouted to him, "Stop! Don't kill yourself! We are all here!"

29 간수는 등불을 달라고 하더니 부리나케 달려 들어와 부들부들 떨면서 바울과 실라 앞에 엎드렸습니다.

29 The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.

30 그러고는 그들을 밖으로 데리고 나오면서 물었습니다. "선생님들, 제가 구원받으려면 어떻게 해야 합니까?"

30 Then he brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

31 그들이 대답했습니다. "주 예수를 믿으시오. 그러면 당신과 당신의 집안이 구원을 받을 것입니다."

31 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household."

32 그러고 나서 바울과 실라는 그와 그 집 안 모든 사람들에게 주의 말씀을 전해 주었습니다.

32 And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.

33 그날 밤 그 시간에 간수는 그들을 데려다가 상처 부위를 씻어 주었습니다. 그러고는 당장 그와 그 온 가족이 세례를 받았습니다.

33 Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized.

34 간수는 그들을 자기 집으로 데려가 음식을 대접했습니다. 그는 자신과 온 가족이 하나님을 믿게 된 것으로 인해 기쁨이 가득했습니다.

34 He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God.

35 날이 밝자 로마 관리들이 부하들을 보내 간수에게 명령했습니다. "그 사람들을 풀어 주라."

35 The next morning the city officials sent the police to tell the jailer, "Let those men go!"

36 그러자 간수가 바울에게 "저희 관리들이 당신과 실라를 풀어 주라고 전갈을 보냈으니 이제 나와 평안히 가십시오"라고 말했습니다.

36 So the jailer told Paul, "The city officials have said you and Silas are free to leave. Go in peace."

37 그러자 바울이 그 부하들에게 말했습니다. "우리가 로마 시민임에도 불구하고 저들이 재판도 없이 공개 석상에서 우리를 때리고 감옥에 가두고는 이제 와서 우리를 몰래 내보내려 하시오? 그들이 직접 와서 우리를 데리고 나가라고 하시오."

37 But Paul replied, "They have publicly beaten us without a trial and put us in prison?and we are Roman citizens. So now they want us to leave secretly? Certainly not! Let them come themselves to release us!"

38 부하들이 그대로 자기 관리들에게 보고했습니다. 그들은 바울과 실라가 로마 시민이라는 소리를 듣고 깜짝 놀랐습니다.

38 When the police reported this, the city officials were alarmed to learn that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens.

39 그들은 직접 감옥까지 와서 사정사정하며 바울과 실라를 정중히 모시고는 그 도시를 떠나 달라고 요청했습니다.

39 So they came to the jail and apologized to them. Then they brought them out and begged them to leave the city.

40 바울과 실라는 감옥에서 나온 뒤 루디아의 집으로 가 형제들을 만나 위로해 주고 그곳을 떠났습니다.

40 When Paul and Silas left the prison, they returned to the home of Lydia. There they met with the believers and encouraged them once more. Then they left town.
