4.

1 <베드로와 요한이 공회 앞에 서다> 베드로와 요한이 사람들에게 말하고 있는데 제사장들과 성전 경비대장과 사두개파 사람들이 나타났습니다.

1 While Peter and John were speaking to the people, they were confronted by the priests, the captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees.

2 그들은 두 사도가 사람들을 가르치며 예수를 들어 죽은 사람의 부활을 전파하는 것 때문에 심기가 몹시 불편했습니다.

2 These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead.

3 그들은 베드로와 요한을 붙잡았습니다. 그런데 그때가 이미 저녁이었기 때문에 다음 날까지 감옥에 가둬 놓았습니다.

3 They arrested them and, since it was already evening, put them in jail until morning.

4 그러나 사도들의 말씀을 들은 많은 사람들이 믿게 됐고 그리하여 믿게 된 남자의 수가 5,000명쯤으로 늘어났습니다.

4 But many of the people who heard their message believed it, so the number of believers now totaled about 5,000 men, not counting women and children.

5 이튿날 통치자들과 장로들과 율법학자들이 예루살렘에 모였습니다.

5 The next day the council of all the rulers and elders and teachers of religious law met in Jerusalem.

6 거기에는 대제사장 안나스가 있었고 가야바, 요한, 알렉산더와 대제사장 가문의 사람들도 있었습니다.

6 Annas the high priest was there, along with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and other relatives of the high priest.

7 그들은 베드로와 요한을 앞에 세워 놓고 "너희가 무슨 권세와 누구의 이름으로 이런 일을 했느냐?"라고 신문하기 시작했습니다.

7 They brought in the two disciples and demanded, "By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?"

8 그때 베드로가 성령이 충만해 그들에게 말했습니다. "백성의 통치자들과 장로들이여,

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers and elders of our people,

9 오늘 여러분이 걷지 못하는 사람에게 일어난 선한 일에 대해 해명하라고 우리를 부른 것이라면 또 그가 어떻게 낫게 됐는지 묻는 것이라면

9 are we being questioned today because we've done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed?

10 여러분과 모든 이스라엘 백성들은 이 점을 알아야 합니다. 이 사람이 다 나아서 여러분 앞에 서게 된 것은 여러분이 십자가에 못 박았지만 하나님께서 죽은 사람들 가운데서 다시 살리신 나사렛 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 된 것입니다.

10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.

11 이 예수는 '건축자들이 버린 돌이지만 집 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되셨습니다.'

11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, 'The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.'

12 예수 외에 다른 어느 누구에게서도 구원을 받을 수 없습니다. 하나님께서는 하늘 아래 우리가 구원받을 만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없기 때문입니다."

12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved."

13 그들은 베드로와 요한이 아무런 교육도 받지 않은 평범한 사람인 줄 알았는데 그렇듯 용기 있게 말하는 것을 보고 놀라지 않을 수 없었습니다. 그러고는 비로소 그들이 과거에 예수와 내내 함께 있던 사람인 줄 알게 됐습니다.

13 The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

14 게다가 병이 나은 사람이 두 사도 곁에 서 있는 것을 보니 더 이상 할 말이 없었습니다.

14 But since they could see the man who had been healed standing right there among them, there was nothing the council could say.

15 그래서 그들은 그 사람들을 공회 밖으로 나가도록 명령하고 함께 의논했습니다.

15 So they ordered Peter and John out of the council chamber and conferred among themselves.

16 그들이 서로 물었습니다. "이 사람들을 어떻게 할까요? 그들이 대단한 기적을 행했다는 사실을 예루살렘에 사는 모든 사람들이 알고 있고 우리도 그것을 부인할 수는 없습니다.

16 "What should we do with these men?" they asked each other. "We can't deny that they have performed a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it.

17 어쨌든 이 일이 백성들 사이에 더 이상 퍼져 나가지 않도록 하려면 이 사람들에게 어느 누구에게도 예수 이름으로 말하지 말라고 경고해야 합니다."

17 But to keep them from spreading their propaganda any further, we must warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus' name again."

18 그러고 나서 그들은 베드로와 요한을 다시 불러들여 절대로 예수의 이름으로 말하거나 가르치지 말라고 명령했습니다.

18 So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.

19 그러나 베드로와 요한이 대답했습니다. "하나님의 말씀보다 당신들의 말에 순종하는 것이 하나님 보시기에 옳은지 스스로 판단해 보십시오.

19 But Peter and John replied, "Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him?

20 우리는 보고 들은 것을 말하지 않을 수 없습니다."

20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard."

21 그들은 사도들을 다시금 협박하고 나서야 겨우 풀어 주었습니다. 그들이 사도들을 처벌할 수 없었던 것은 모든 사람들이 그 일어난 일로 인해 하나님을 찬양하고 있었기 때문입니다.

21 The council then threatened them further, but they finally let them go because they didn't know how to punish them without starting a riot. For everyone was praising God

22 이 기적으로 병이 나은 그 사람은 마흔 살이 넘은 사람이었습니다.

22 for this miraculous sign?the healing of a man who had been lame for more than forty years.

23 <성도들이 기도하다> 베드로와 요한도 풀려나자마자 자기 동료들에게 돌아가 대제사장들과 장로들이 한 말을 모두 전해 주었습니다.

23 As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said.

24 그들은 이 말을 듣고 함께 소리 높여 하나님께 기도했습니다. "주여, 주께서는 하늘과 땅과 바다와 그 안에 있는 모든 것을 지으신 분이십니다.

24 When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God： "O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them?

25 주께서는 주의 종, 우리 조상 다윗의 입을 통해 성령으로 말씀하셨습니다. '어째서 민족들이 분노하며 사람들이 헛된 음모를 꾸미는가?

25 you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying, 'Why were the nations so angry? Why did they waste their time with futile plans?

26 세상의 왕들이 일어나고 통치자들이 함께 모여 주와 그분의 그리스도를 대항하고 있구나.'

26 The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the LORD and against his Messiah.'

27 그런데 정말 헤롯 안티파스와 본디오 빌라도가 주께서 기름 부으신 거룩한 종 예수를 반대하며 음모를 꾸미려고 이방 사람들과 이스라엘 백성들을 이 성에서 만났던 것입니다.

27 "In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.

28 주의 능력과 뜻에 의해 미리 정하신 일을 그들이 단지 이룬 것뿐입니다.

28 But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

29 그러니 주여, 그들의 위협을 보고 주의 종들을 도와 주의 말씀을 담대하게 전하게 하소서.

29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.

30 주의 손을 펴서 주의 거룩한 종 예수의 이름을 통해 병을 고치게 하시고 표적과 기사를 행하게 하소서."

30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus."

31 그들이 기도를 마치자 모여 있던 곳이 진동했습니다. 그리고 그들은 모두 성령으로 충만해져 하나님의 말씀을 담대하게 전했습니다.

31 After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

32 <성도들이 물건을 서로 통용하다> 믿는 사람들은 모두 한마음 한뜻이 됐습니다. 자기 재물을 조금이라도 자기 것이라고 주장하는 사람이 없었고 가진 것을 모두 공동으로 사용했습니다.

32 All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.

33 사도들은 큰 권능으로 주 예수의 부활에 대해 증언했고 풍성한 은혜가 그들 모두에게 임했습니다.

33 The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God's great blessing was upon them all.

34 그들 가운데 부족한 것이 있는 사람은 전혀 없었습니다. 이따금씩 땅이나 집을 소유하고 있던 사람들이 그것을 팔아서 돈을 가져다가

34 There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them

35 사도들의 발 앞에 바쳤습니다. 그러면 누구든 필요한 사람에게 나눠 주었기 때문입니다.

35 and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

36 키프로스 출신인 요셉이라는 레위 사람이 있었습니다. 사도들은 그를 바나바라고도 불렀는데 바나바는 '위로의 아들'이라는 뜻입니다.

36 For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means "Son of Encouragement"). He was from the tribe of Levi and came from the island of Cyprus.

37 그 사람이 자기의 밭을 팔아서 그 돈을 사도들의 발 앞에 갖다 놓았습니다.

37 He sold a field he owned and brought the money to the apostles.

1 <아나니아와 삽비라> 아나니아라는 사람은 그의 아내 삽비라와 함께 재산을 팔았습니다.

1 But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property.

2 그는 그 돈의 일부를 떼어 자기 것으로 숨겨 두고는 나머지를 사도들의 발 앞에 가져와 바쳤습니다. 그의 아내도 이 사실을 다 알고 있었습니다.

2 He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife's consent, he kept the rest.

3 그러자 베드로가 말했습니다. "아나니아야, 어떻게 네가 사탄에게 마음을 빼앗겨 성령을 속이고 땅값으로 받은 돈의 일부를 네 것으로 몰래 숨겨 놓았느냐?

3 Then Peter said, "Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself.

4 그 땅은 팔기 전에도 네 소유였고 또 팔고 난 뒤에도 네 마음대로 처분할 수 있지 않았느냐? 그런데 왜 이런 일을 마음에 품었느냐? 너는 사람을 속인 것이 아니라 하나님을 속인 것이다."

4 The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren't lying to us but to God!"

5 아나니아는 이 말을 듣자마자 쓰러져 죽었습니다. 그리고 이 일을 듣는 사람들은 모두 두려움에 사로잡혔습니다.

5 As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified.

6 그때 청년들이 들어와 그 시체를 싸서 들고 나가 묻어 주었습니다.

6 Then some young men got up, wrapped him in a sheet, and took him out and buried him.

7 세 시간쯤 지나서 그의 아내가 무슨 일이 일어났는지도 모르고 들어왔습니다.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.

8 베드로가 그녀에게 물었습니다. "말해 보아라. 너와 아나니아가 땅을 팔아 받은 돈이 이것뿐인가?" 삽비라가 대답했습니다. "네, 그게 전부입니다."

8 Peter asked her, "Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?" "Yes," she replied, "that was the price."

9 베드로가 그녀에게 말했습니다. "너희가 어째서 서로 짜고 주의 영을 시험하려고 하느냐? 보아라. 네 남편을 묻은 사람들이 문 앞에 있으니 이번에는 너를 메고 나갈 것이다."

9 And Peter said, "How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too."

10 바로 그 순간 삽비라도 그 발 앞에 쓰러져 죽었습니다. 그러자 청년들이 들어와 그가 죽은 것을 보고는 메고 나가 그 남편 곁에 묻었습니다.

10 Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

11 온 교회와 이 일에 대해 소문을 들은 모든 사람들은 큰 두려움에 사로잡혔습니다.

11 Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened.

12 <사도들이 많은 사람들을 고치다> 사도들은 사람들 가운데 많은 기적들과 표적들을 일으켰습니다. 그리고 믿는 사람들은 모두 한마음으로 솔로몬 행각에 모이곤 했습니다.

12 The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon's Colonnade.

13 다른 사람들은 감히 그 모임에 끼어들지 못했습니다. 그러나 백성들 사이에서는 그들에 대한 칭찬이 자자했습니다.

13 But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them.

14 더욱이 남녀 할 것 없이 점점 더 많은 사람들이 주를 믿게 돼 그 수가 늘어났습니다.

14 Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord?crowds of both men and women.

15 심지어 사람들은 베드로가 지나갈 때 혹시 그의 그림자에라도 덮일까 해서 들것과 자리에 환자들을 눕힌 채 거리로 데리고 나왔습니다.

15 As a result of the apostles' work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter's shadow might fall across some of them as he went by.

16 예루살렘 근처의 마을에서도 많은 사람들이 환자들과 더러운 귀신에 시달리는 사람들을 데리고 모여들었고 그들도 모두 고침을 받았습니다.

16 Crowds came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

17 <사도들이 박해를 당하다> 그러자 대제사장과 그와 한패인 사두개파의 당원들은 모두 시기하는 마음이 가득해서 들고 일어나

17 The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.

18 사도들을 잡아다가 감옥에 가두었습니다.

18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.

19 그러나 그날 밤 주의 천사가 감옥 문을 열고 사도들을 밖으로 데리고 나오며 말했습니다.

19 But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them,

20 "가라! 성전에 서서 백성들에게 이 새 생명의 말씀을 모두 전하라."

20 "Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!"

21 이 말을 듣고 그들은 이른 아침 성전으로 들어가 사람들을 가르치기 시작했습니다. 그때 대제사장과 그 일행이 도착해 공회와 이스라엘 자손의 모든 장로들을 소집하고 감옥에 사람을 보내 사도들을 데려오게 했습니다.

21 So at daybreak the apostles entered the Temple, as they were told, and immediately began teachingWhen the high priest and his officials arrived, they convened the high council - the full assembly of the elders of Israel. Then they sent for the apostles to be brought from the jail for trial.

22 그러나 경비병들이 감옥에 도착해 보니 그들은 온데간데없었습니다. 그들이 돌아와 이렇게 보고했습니다.

22 But when the Temple guards went to the jail, the men were gone. So they returned to the council and reported,

23 "감옥 문은 단단히 잠겨 있었고 간수들도 문마다 서 있었습니다. 그런데 문을 열어 보니 안에 아무도 없었습니다."

23 "The jail was securely locked, with the guards standing outside, but when we opened the gates, no one was there!"

24 이 말을 듣고 성전 경비대장과 대제사장들은 당황해 이러다가 또 어떤 일이 생기게 될까 걱정했습니다.

24 When the captain of the Temple guard and the leading priests heard this, they were perplexed, wondering where it would all end.

25 그때 누군가 들어오더니 말했습니다. "보십시오! 감옥에 가둔 그 사람들이 성전에 서서 사람들을 가르치고 있습니다."

25 Then someone arrived with startling news： "The men you put in jail are standing in the Temple, teaching the people!"

26 그러자 경비대장은 부하들과 함께 나가서 사도들을 잡아 왔습니다. 그러나 강제로 끌고 오지 않았는데 그것은 사람들이 자기들에게 돌을 던질까 겁이 났기 때문입니다.

26 The captain went with his Temple guards and arrested the apostles, but without violence, for they were afraid the people would stone them.

27 그들은 사도들을 데려다가 대제사장의 신문을 받도록 공회 앞에 세웠습니다.

27 Then they brought the apostles before the high council, where the high priest confronted them.

28 대제사장이 말했습니다. "우리가 예수의 이름으로 가르치지 말라고 단단히 주의를 주지 않았느냐? 그런데 너희는 온 예루살렘을 너희 가르침으로 가득 채우고 이 사람의 피에 대한 책임을 우리에게 뒤집어씌우려고 하는구나."

28 "Didn't we tell you never again to teach in this man's name?" he demanded. "Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him, and you want to make us responsible for his death!"

29 베드로와 다른 사도들이 대답했습니다. "사람에게 순종하기보다 하나님께 순종하는 것이 마땅합니다!

29 But Peter and the apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than any human authority.

30 당신들이 나무에 달아 죽인 그 예수를 우리 조상들의 하나님께서 살리셨습니다.

30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed him by hanging him on a cross.

31 하나님께서는 이스라엘에게 회개와 죄 용서를 주시려고 예수를 그분 오른편에 높이셔서 왕과 구세주가 되게 하셨습니다.

31 Then God put him in the place of honor at his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so the people of Israel would repent of their sins and be forgiven.

32 우리는 이 모든 일들의 증인이고 하나님께서 그분께 순종하는 사람들에게 주신 성령 또한 그 일들의 증인이십니다."

32 We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him."

33 그들은 이 말을 듣고 화가 치밀어 사도들을 죽이려고 했습니다.

33 When they heard this, the high council was furious and decided to kill them.

34 그런데 가말리엘이라는 한 바리새파 사람이 공회 가운데 일어났습니다. 그는 율법학자로서 모든 사람의 존경을 한 몸에 받고 있는 사람이었습니다. 그는 사도들을 잠시 공회 밖으로 내보내라고 명령하고는

34 But one member, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was an expert in religious law and respected by all the people, stood up and ordered that the men be sent outside the council chamber for a while.

35 이렇게 말했습니다. "이스라엘 사람들이여, 여러분이 지금 저 사람들에게 하려는 일에 신중을 기해야 합니다.

35 Then he said to his colleagues, "Men of Israel, take care what you are planning to do to these men!

36 언젠가 드다가 나타나서 자신이 대단한 사람인 양 공포하고 다니자 400명가량의 사람들이 따랐습니다. 그러나 그는 죽임을 당했고 그를 추종하던 사람들은 모두 뿔뿔이 흩어지고 말았습니다. 결국 그 일은 아무것도 아닌 일로 끝났습니다.

36 Some time ago there was that fellow Theudas, who pretended to be someone great. About 400 others joined him, but he was killed, and all his followers went their various ways. The whole movement came to nothing.

37 그 사람 뒤에도 갈릴리 사람 유다가 인구 조사를 할 때 나타나서 많은 추종자들을 거느리고 반란을 도모했지만 역시 죽임을 당했고 그를 추종하던 사람들도 모두 흩어졌습니다.

37 After him, at the time of the census, there was Judas of Galilee. He got people to follow him, but he was killed, too, and all his followers were scattered.

38 그러니 지금의 경우에 대해서도 내가 한마디 하자면 저 사람들을 상관하지 말고 그냥 내버려 둡시다. 만일 그 목적이나 행동이 사람에게서 비롯된 것이라면 망하고 말 것입니다.

38 "So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown.

39 그러나 만약 하나님으로부터 나온 것이라면 이 사람들을 막을 수 없을 것입니다. 행여나 여러분이 하나님을 대적해 싸우는 사람이 될까 두렵습니다."

39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!"

40 그의 충고는 충분히 설득력이 있었습니다. 그들은 사도들을 안으로 들여 채찍질을 하고는 예수의 이름으로 말하지 말라고 명령하고는 풀어 주었습니다.

40 The others accepted his advice. They called in the apostles and had them flogged. Then they ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus, and they let them go.

41 사도들은 예수 이름을 위해 모욕당하는 것이 합당하다고 생각하고는 기뻐하며 공회를 떠났습니다.

41 The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus.

42 그들은 날마다 성전에서 또 집집마다 다니면서 예수께서 그리스도라고 가르치고 선포하기를 쉬지 않았습니다.

42 And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message： "Jesus is the Messiah."

1 <일곱 집사를 선출하다> 이 무렵 제자들의 수는 점점 늘어났습니다. 그때 그들 가운데 그리스파 유대 사람들이 히브리파 유대 사람들에 대해 불평이 생겼습니다. 매일 음식을 분배받는 일에서 그리스파 유대 사람 과부들이 빠졌기 때문입니다.

1 But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food.

2 그리하여 열두 사도들은 제자들을 모두 불러 놓고 말했습니다. "우리가 음식을 분배하는 일로 인해 하나님의 말씀 가르치는 사역을 소홀히 여기는 것은 옳지 않습니다.

2 So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, "We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program.

3 형제들이여, 여러분 가운데 성령과 지혜가 충만하다고 알려진 사람 일곱 명을 뽑으십시오. 그러면 이 임무는 그들에게 맡기고

3 And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.

4 우리는 기도하고 말씀을 가르치는 일에 온 힘을 기울이겠습니다."

4 Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word."

5 모든 사람들이 이 제안을 기쁘게 받아들였습니다. 그들은 믿음과 성령이 충만한 사람 스데반과 빌립, 브로고로, 니가노르, 디몬, 바메나, 유대교로 개종한 안디옥 사람 니골라를 뽑았습니다.

5 Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following： Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith).

6 그들은 이 사람들을 사도들 앞에 세웠고 사도들은 그 사람들 머리 위에 손을 얹고 기도했습니다.

6 These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them.

7 이렇게 해서 하나님의 말씀은 계속 널리 퍼져 나갔으며 이로써 예루살렘에 있는 제자들의 수도 많이 늘었고 더욱이 수많은 제사장들도 이 믿음에 순종하게 됐습니다.

7 So God's message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.

8 <스데반이 잡히다> 스데반은 하나님의 은혜와 능력이 충만해 사람들 가운데 큰 기사와 표적을 행했습니다.

8 Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people.

9 그런데 그때 구레네, 알렉산드리아, 길리기아와 아시아 등지에서 온 유대 사람들로 구성된 이른바 '자유인의 회당'에 속한 사람들 가운데 스데반을 반대하는 사람들이 일어났습니다. 그들은 스데반과 논쟁을 벌이기 시작했지만

9 But one day some men from the Synagogue of Freed Slaves, as it was called, started to debate with him. They were Jews from Cyrene, Alexandria, Cilicia, and the province of Asia.

10 스데반이 지혜와 성령으로 말하는 것을 모두 당해 낼 수 없었습니다.

10 None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke.

11 그러자 그들은 돈을 주고 몇몇 사람을 시켜 "스데반이 모세와 하나님을 모독하는 것을 들었다"라고 말하게 했습니다.

11 So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, "We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God."

12 그들은 이렇게 백성들과 장로들과 율법학자들을 선동해 스데반을 붙잡아 공회 앞으로 끌고 갔습니다.

12 This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council.

13 그들은 거짓 증인들을 내세워 거짓 증언을 하게 했습니다. "이 사람은 이 거룩한 곳과 율법에 대해 험담을 그치지 않고 계속해 왔습니다.

13 The lying witnesses said, "This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.

14 우리는 이 사람이 나사렛 예수가 이곳을 무너뜨리고 모세가 우리에게 전해 준 관습들을 바꿀 것이라고 말하는 것을 들었습니다."

14 We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the Temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us."

15 그러자 공회에 앉아 있던 사람들이 모두 스데반을 주목했습니다. 그때 그의 얼굴은 마치 천사의 얼굴처럼 보였습니다.

15 At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel's.
