1 성벽을 건축하고 문짝들을 달고 나서 문지기와 노래하는 사람들과 레위 사람들을 임명했습니다.
1 After the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in the gates, the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites were appointed.
2 나는 내 동생 하나니와 성의 사령관 하나냐를 세워 예루살렘을 다스리게 했습니다. 하나냐는 사람됨이 충직하고 많은 사람들보다 하나님을 더 경외하는 사람이었기 때문입니다.
2 I gave the responsibility of governing Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah, the commander of the fortress, for he was a faithful man who feared God more than most.
3 내가 그들에게 말했습니다. "해가 높이 뜰 때까지 예루살렘 성문들을 열지 말고 문지기가 지키고 있는 동안에도 문을 단단히 닫고 빗장을 질러 놓아야 한다. 그리고 예루살렘 주민들을 경비로 세워 각기 지정된 초소와 자기 집 앞을 지키게 하라."
3 I said to them, "Do not leave the gates open during the hottest part of the day. And even while the gatekeepers are on duty, have them shut and bar the doors. Appoint the residents of Jerusalem to act as guards, everyone on a regular watch. Some will serve at sentry posts and some in front of their own homes."
4 <귀환한 백성들의 명단 (스 2:1-70)> 그 성은 크고 넓은데 성안에 사는 사람들은 얼마 없고 제대로 지은 집들도 아직 얼마 없었습니다.
4 At that time the city was large and spacious, but the population was small, and none of the houses had been rebuilt.
5 그런데 하나님이 내게 귀족들과 관리들과 일반 백성들을 모아 종족별로 인구를 조사할 마음을 주셨습니다. 마침 나는 처음 돌아온 사람들의 족보를 찾게 됐는데 거기에는 다음과 같이 적혀 있었습니다.
5 So my God gave me the idea to call together all the nobles and leaders of the city, along with the ordinary citizens, for registration. I had found the genealogical record of those who had first returned to Judah. This is what was written there.
6 이들은 바벨론 느부갓네살 왕에게 포로로 잡혀간 사람들 가운데 다시 고향으로 돌아온 사람들입니다. 그들은 예루살렘과 유다로 돌아와 각기 자기 마을로 갔습니다.
6 Here is the list of the Jewish exiles of the provinces who returned from their captivity. King Nebuchadnezzar had deported them to Babylon, but now they returned to Jerusalem and the other towns in Judah where they originally lived.
7 이들과 동행한 사람은 스룹바벨, 예수아, 느헤미야, 아사랴, 라아먀, 나하마니, 모르드개, 빌산, 미스베렛, 비그왜, 느훔, 바아나였습니다. 이들 이스라엘 사람들의 명단은 이러합니다.
7 Their leaders were Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. This is the number of the men of Israel who returned from exile.

60 In all, the Temple servants and the descendants of Solomon's servants numbered 392.
61 다음은 델멜라와 델하르사와 그룹과 앗돈과 임멜에서 올라온 사람들인데 그 종족이 이스라엘의 자손인지에 대해서는 증거가 없었습니다.
61 Another group returned at this time from the towns of Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Kerub, Addan, and Immer. However, they could not prove that they or their families were descendants of Israel.
62 이들 가운데 들라야의 자손, 도비야의 자손, 느고다의 자손이 642명,
62 This group included the families of Delaiah, Tobiah, and Nekoda - a total of 642 people.
63 제사장 가운데 호바야 자손, 학고스 자손, 바르실래 자손이 있었는데 바르실래는 길르앗 사람 바르실래의 딸과 결혼한 사람으로서 그 이름으로 불렸습니다.
63 Three families of priests - Hobaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai - also returned. (This Barzillai had married a woman who was a descendant of Barzillai of Gilead, and he had taken her family name.)
64 이들은 자기 족보를 찾았지만 얻지 못하고 결국 부정하게 여겨져 제사장 계열에 들지 못했습니다.
64 They searched for their names in the genealogical records, but they were not found, so they were disqualified from serving as priests.
65 그래서 총독은 그들에게 명령해 우림과 둠밈으로 다스리는 제사장이 나오기 전에는 지성물을 먹지 못하게 했습니다.
65 The governor told them not to eat the priests' share of food from the sacrifices until a priest could consult the LORD about the matter by using the Urim and Thummim - the sacred lots.

66 So a total of 42,360 people returned to Judah,

70 Some of the family leaders gave gifts for the work. The governor gave to the treasury 1,000 gold coins, 50 gold basins, and 530 robes for the priests.
71 어떤 족장들은 금 2만 드라크마와 은 2,200마네를 보물 창고에 드렸습니다.
71 The other leaders gave to the treasury a total of 20,000 gold coins and some 2,750 pounds of silver for the work.
72 나머지 백성들이 드린 것을 다 합치면 금 2만 드라크마와 은 2,000마네와 제사장의 옷 67벌이었습니다.
72 The rest of the people gave 20,000 gold coins, about 2,500 pounds of silver, and 67 robes for the priests.
73 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 성전 문지기들과 노래하는 사람들과 느디님 사람들과 몇몇 백성들과 온 이스라엘 사람들은 저마다 자기 고향에 정착했습니다.
73 So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the Temple servants, and some of the common people settled near Jerusalem. The rest of the people returned to their own towns throughout Israel. In October, when the Israelites had settled in their towns,
1 <에스라가 율법책을 낭독하다> <에스라가 율법책을 낭독하다> 그러고 나서 일곱째 달이 됐고 그때 이스라엘 자손들은 모두 자기 마을에 있었습니다. 그때 모든 백성들이 '물 문' 앞 광장에 일제히 모였습니다. 그러고는 학사 에스라에게 여호와께서 이스라엘에게 주신 모세의 율법책을 가져와 읽어 달라고 했습니다.
1 all the people assembled with a unified purpose at the square just inside the Water Gate. They asked Ezra the scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had given for Israel to obey.
2 그리하여 일곱째 달 1일에 제사장 에스라가 남녀 회중과 알아들을 만한 모든 백성들 앞에 율법책을 들고 나왔습니다.
2 So on October 8 Ezra the priest brought the Book of the Law before the assembly, which included the men and women and all the children old enough to understand.
3 그러고는 '물 문' 앞 광장에서 남녀와 알아들을 만한 모든 사람들에게 이른 아침부터 정오까지 율법을 큰 소리로 낭독했습니다. 그러자 모든 백성들이 그 율법책에 귀를 기울였습니다.
3 He faced the square just inside the Water Gate from early morning until noon and read aloud to everyone who could understand. All the people listened closely to the Book of the Law.
4 학사 에스라는 그 행사를 위해 특별히 만든 높은 나무 강단에 서 있었습니다. 그 오른쪽에는 맛디댜, 스마, 아나야, 우리야, 힐기야, 마아세야가 서고 그 왼쪽에는 브다야, 미사엘, 말기야, 하숨, 하스밧다나, 스가랴, 므술람이 함께 있었습니다.
4 Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform that had been made for the occasion. To his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah. To his left stood Pedaiah, Mishael, Malkijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5 에스라가 백성들 위에 서서 그들이 보는 앞에서 그 책을 펼쳤습니다. 그가 책을 펴자 백성들이 다 일어났습니다.
5 Ezra stood on the platform in full view of all the people. When they saw him open the book, they all rose to their feet.
6 에스라가 위대하신 하나님 여호와를 찬양하자 온 백성이 손을 들고 "아멘, 아멘" 하고 대답하며 얼굴을 땅에 대고 납작 엎드려 여호와께 경배했습니다.
6 Then Ezra praised the LORD, the great God, and all the people chanted, "Amen! Amen!" as they lifted their hands. Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
7 예수아, 바니, 세레뱌, 야민, 악굽, 사브대, 호디야, 마아세야, 그리다, 아사랴, 요사밧, 하난, 블라야와 레위 사람들이 거기 서 있는 백성들에게 율법을 설명해 주었습니다.
7 The Levites - Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah - then instructed the people in the Law while everyone remained in their places.
8 그들이 그 책, 곧 하나님의 율법을 읽고 그 읽은 것을 백성들이 알아듣도록 설명해 주었습니다.
8 They read from the Book of the Law of God and clearly explained the meaning of what was being read, helping the people understand each passage.
9 온 백성들이 율법의 말씀을 듣고 울었습니다. 그러자 총독 느헤미야와 제사장이자 학사인 에스라와 백성들을 가르치던 레위 사람들이 모든 백성들에게 말했습니다. "이날은 우리 하나님 여호와의 거룩한 날이니 슬퍼하거나 울지 말라."
9 Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were interpreting for the people said to them, "Don't mourn or weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the LORD your God." For the people had all been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.
10 느헤미야가 그들에게 말했습니다. "가서 좋은 음식과 단것을 마시고 아무것도 준비하지 못한 사람들에게도 나누어 주라. 이날은 우리 주의 거룩한 날이니 슬퍼하지 말라. 여호와를 기뻐하는 것이 너희 힘이다."
10 And Nehemiah continued, "Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!"
11 그러자 레위 사람들도 온 백성들을 진정시키며 말했습니다. "오늘은 거룩한 날이니 조용히 하고 슬퍼하지 마시오."
11 And the Levites, too, quieted the people, telling them, "Hush! Don't weep! For this is a sacred day."
12 그리하여 온 백성들이 가서 먹고 마시고 먹을 것을 나눠 주며 큰 잔치를 벌였습니다. 자기들이 들은 말씀을 이제 깨달았기 때문입니다.
12 So the people went away to eat and drink at a festive meal, to share gifts of food, and to celebrate with great joy because they had heard God's words and understood them.
13 그 이튿날 온 백성들의 족장들과 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 모여 율법의 말씀을 들으려고 학사 에스라를 둘러쌌습니다.
13 On October 9 the family leaders of all the people, together with the priests and Levites, met with Ezra the scribe to go over the Law in greater detail.
14 그들은 율법에 기록된 것으로 여호와께서 모세를 통해 명령하신 것을 발견했습니다. 곧 이스라엘 백성들은 일곱째 달 절기 동안에 초막에서 살라는 것과
14 As they studied the Law, they discovered that the LORD had commanded through Moses that the Israelites should live in shelters during the festival to be held that month.
15 "산간 지대로 나가서 올리브 나무와 야생 올리브 나무 가지, 은매화나무 가지, 야자나무 가지와 또 다른 활엽수 가지를 가져와 기록된 대로 초막을 지으라" 하는 말씀을 그들이 사는 여러 마을과 예루살렘에 선포하고 전하라는 것이었습니다.
15 He had said that a proclamation should be made throughout their towns and in Jerusalem, telling the people to go to the hills to get branches from olive, wild olive, myrtle, palm, and other leafy trees. They were to use these branches to make shelters in which they would live during the festival, as prescribed in the Law.
16 그리하여 백성들은 밖으로 나가 가지를 주워 와서 초막을 지었는데 각자 지붕 위에, 뜰 안에, 하나님의 집 뜰 안에, '물 문' 앞 광장에, 에브라임 문 앞 광장에 지었습니다.
16 So the people went out and cut branches and used them to build shelters on the roofs of their houses, in their courtyards, in the courtyards of God's Temple, or in the squares just inside the Water Gate and the Ephraim Gate.
17 포로로 잡혀갔다가 돌아온 무리들은 모두 초막을 짓고 그 안에 살았습니다. 눈의 아들 여호수아 시절부터 그날까지 이스라엘 백성들이 이렇게 한 적이 없었기 때문에 그들은 기쁨을 감출 수 없었습니다.
17 So everyone who had returned from captivity lived in these shelters during the festival, and they were all filled with great joy! The Israelites had not celebrated like this since the days of Joshua son of Nun.
18 에스라는 첫날부터 마지막 날까지 날마다 하나님의 율법책을 낭독했습니다. 그들은 7일 동안 절기를 지켰고 8일째 되는 날에는 규례에 따라 공회를 열었습니다.
18 Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God on each of the seven days of the festival. Then on the eighth day they held a solemn assembly, as was required by law.
