1 <타락> 여호와 하나님께서 만드신 들짐승 가운데 뱀이 가장 교활했습니다. 그가 여자에게 말했습니다. "정말 하나님께서 '동산의 어떤 나무의 열매도 먹으면 안 된다'라고 말씀하셨느냐?"

1 The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, "Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?"

2 여자가 뱀에게 말했습니다. "우리는 동산에 있는 나무들의 열매를 먹어도 된다.

2 "Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden," the woman replied.

3 그러나 하나님께서 '동산 한가운데 있는 나무의 열매는 죽지 않으려거든 먹지도 말고 건드리지도 마라'라고 말씀하셨다."

3 "It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, 'You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'"

4 뱀이 여자에게 말했습니다. "너희가 절대로 죽지 않을 것이다.

4 "You won't die!" the serpent replied to the woman.

5 이는 너희가 그것을 먹는 날에는 너희 눈이 열려서 너희가 선과 악을 아시는 하나님처럼 될 것을 하나님께서 아시기 때문이다."

5 "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil."

6 여자가 보니 그 나무의 열매가 먹기에 좋고 눈으로 보기에도 좋으며 지혜롭게 할 만큼 탐스러워 보였습니다. 여자가 그 열매를 따서 먹었습니다. 그리고 자기와 함께 있는 남자에게도 주니 그도 먹었습니다.

6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

7 그러자 그 두 사람의 눈이 밝아져 자신들이 벌거벗었음을 알게 됐습니다. 그들은 자신들을 위해 무화과나무 잎을 엮어 옷을 만들었습니다.

7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

8 서늘한 바람이 부는 그날 동산을 거니시는 여호와 하나님의 소리를 듣고 아담과 그의 아내가 여호와의 낯을 피해 동산의 나무 사이로 숨었습니다.

8 When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees.

9 여호와 하나님께서 아담을 부르시며 "네가 어디 있느냐?" 하고 말씀하셨습니다.

9 Then the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?"

10 아담이 대답했습니다. "제가 동산에서 하나님의 소리를 듣고 벌거벗은 것이 두려워 숨었습니다."

10 He replied, "I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked."

11 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다. "누가 네게 네가 벌거벗었다는 것을 말해 주었느냐? 내가 먹지 말라고 네게 명령한 그 나무 열매를 네가 먹었느냐?"

11 "Who told you that you were naked?" the LORD God asked. "Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?"

12 아담이 말했습니다. "하나님께서 함께하라고 제게 주신 그 여자가 그 나무 열매를 제게 주어서 제가 먹었습니다."

12 The man replied, "It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it."

13 여호와 하나님께서 그 여자에게 말씀하셨습니다. "네가 어째서 이런 일을 저질렀느냐?" 여자가 말했습니다. "뱀이 저를 꾀어서 제가 먹었습니다."

13 Then the LORD God asked the woman, "What have you done?" "The serpent deceived me," she replied. "That's why I ate it."

14 여호와 하나님께서 뱀에게 말씀하셨습니다. "네가 이 일을 저질렀으니 너는 모든 가축과 모든 들짐승보다 더 저주를 받을 것이다. 배로 기어 다니고 네가 사는 평생 동안 흙을 먹을 것이다.

14 Then the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live.

15 내가 너와 여자 사이에, 네 자손과 여자의 자손 사이에 증오심을 두리니 여자의 자손이 네 머리를 상하게 하고 너는 그의 발뒤꿈치를 상하게 할 것이다."

15 And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel."

16 여자에게 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다. "내가 네게 임신의 수고로움을 크게 더할 것이니 네가 괴로움 속에서 자식을 낳을 것이다. 너는 남편을 지배하려 하나 그가 너를 다스릴 것이다."

16 Then he said to the woman, "I will sharpen the pain of your pregnancy, and in pain you will give birth. And you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you."

17 아담에게 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다. "네가 네 아내의 말을 듣고 내가 네게 명령해 '먹지 마라'라고 말한 나무의 열매를 먹었으니 너 때문에 땅이 저주를 받을 것이다. 네가 일평생 수고해야 땅에서 나는 것을 먹을 것이다.

17 And to the man he said, "Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it.

18 땅은 네게 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴를 내고 너는 밭의 식물을 먹을 것이다.

18 It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains.

19 네가 흙에서 취해졌으니 흙으로 돌아갈 때까지 네 얼굴에 땀이 흘러야 네가 음식을 먹을 것이다. 너는 흙이니 흙으로 돌아갈 것이다."

19 By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return."

20 아담이 그의 아내를 하와라고 불렀는데 이는 그녀가 살아 있는 모든 사람들의 어머니이기 때문입니다.

20 Then the man - Adam - named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live.

21 여호와 하나님께서 아담과 그 아내를 위해 가죽옷을 만들어 입히셨습니다.

21 And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.

22 여호와 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다. "이 사람이 우리 가운데 하나같이 돼 선악을 알게 됐으니 이제 그가 손을 뻗어 생명나무 열매까지 따 먹고 영원히 살게 되면 안 될 것이다."

22 Then the LORD God said, "Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!"

23 여호와 하나님께서 그를 에덴동산에서 내보내 그가 취해졌던 땅을 일구게 하셨습니다.

23 So the LORD God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made.

24 하나님께서 그 사람을 쫓아내시고 에덴동산 동쪽에 그룹들과 회전하는 칼의 불꽃을 둬 생명나무로 가는 길을 지키게 하셨습니다.

24 After sending them out, the LORD God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

1 <가인과 아벨> 아담이 그 아내 하와와 동침하니 그녀가 임신해 가인을 낳고 말했습니다. "여호와의 도우심으로 내가 아들을 얻었다."

1 Now Adam had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth to Cain, she said, "With the LORD's help, I have produced a man!"

2 그리고 하와는 다시 가인의 동생 아벨을 낳았습니다. 아벨은 양을 치는 사람이 되고 가인은 농사를 짓는 사람이 됐습니다.

2 Later she gave birth to his brother and named him Abel. When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain cultivated the ground.

3 세월이 흐른 후 가인은 땅에서 난 것을 여호와께 제물로 가져오고

3 When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the LORD.

4 아벨은 자기 양 떼의 첫 새끼들과 양 떼의 기름을 제물로 가져왔습니다. 여호와께서 아벨과 그의 제물은 인정하셨으나

4 Abel also brought a gift - the best of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The LORD accepted Abel and his gift,

5 가인과 그의 제물은 인정하지 않으셨습니다. 가인은 몹시 화가 나서 고개를 떨구었습니다.

5 but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.

6 그러자 여호와께서 가인에게 말씀하셨습니다. "왜 화가 났느냐? 왜 고개를 떨구었느냐?

6 "Why are you so angry?" the LORD asked Cain. "Why do you look so dejected?

7 만약 네가 옳다면 어째서 얼굴을 들지 못하느냐? 그러나 네가 옳지 않다면 죄가 문 앞에 도사리고 있을 것이다. 죄가 너를 지배하려 하니 너는 죄를 다스려야 한다."

7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master."

8 가인이 자기 동생 아벨에게 말해 그들이 들에 나가 있을 때 가인이 일어나 그의 동생 아벨을 쳐서 죽였습니다.

8 One day Cain suggested to his brother, "Let's go out into the fields." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him.

9 여호와 하나님께서 가인에게 말씀하셨습니다. "네 동생 아벨이 어디 있느냐?" 가인이 말했습니다. "모릅니다. 제가 동생을 지키는 사람입니까?"

9 Afterward the LORD asked Cain, "Where is your brother? Where is Abel?" "I don't know," Cain responded. "Am I my brother's guardian?"

10 여호와께서 말씀하셨습니다. "네가 무슨 짓을 저질렀느냐? 네 동생의 피가 땅에서 내게 울부짖고 있다.

10 But the LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground!

11 이제 너는 입을 벌려 네 동생의 피를 받은 땅으로부터 저주를 받을 것이다.

11 Now you are cursed and banished from the ground, which has swallowed your brother's blood.

12 네가 땅을 일궈도 다시는 땅이 네게 그 결실을 내주지 않을 것이며 너는 땅으로부터 도망해 떠도는 사람이 될 것이다."

12 No longer will the ground yield good crops for you, no matter how hard you work! From now on you will be a homeless wanderer on the earth."

13 가인이 여호와께 말했습니다. "보십시오. 제 벌이 너무 무거워 견디기 어렵습니다.

13 Cain replied to the LORD, "My punishment is too great for me to bear!

14 오늘 주께서 저를 이 땅에서 쫓아내셔서 주의 얼굴을 볼 수 없게 됐기 때문에 제가 이 땅에서 도망해 떠도는 사람이 될 것입니다. 저를 만나는 사람들은 모두 저를 죽이려 들 것입니다."

14 You have banished me from the land and from your presence; you have made me a homeless wanderer. Anyone who finds me will kill me!"

15 여호와께서 그에게 말씀하셨습니다. "그렇지 않을 것이다. 누구든 가인을 죽이는 사람은 일곱 배로 복수를 당할 것이다." 그리고 여호와께서 가인에게 한 표를 주셔서 누구를 만나든 그가 가인을 죽이지 못하게 하셨습니다.

15 The LORD replied, "No, for I will give a sevenfold punishment to anyone who kills you." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain to warn anyone who might try to kill him.

16 그 후 가인은 여호와 앞을 떠나 에덴의 동쪽 놋 땅에서 살게 됐습니다.

16 So Cain left the LORD's presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

17 가인이 그의 아내와 동침하니 그녀가 임신해 에녹을 낳았습니다. 가인은 성을 세웠는데 그 성의 이름을 아들의 이름을 따서 '에녹'이라 지었습니다.

17 Cain had sexual relations with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Then Cain founded a city, which he named Enoch, after his son.

18 에녹에게서 이랏이 태어났고 이랏은 므후야엘을 낳았고 므후야엘은 므드사엘을 낳았고 므드사엘은 라멕을 낳았습니다.

18 Enoch had a son named Irad. Irad became the father of Mehujael. Mehujael became the father of Methushael. Methushael became the father of Lamech.

19 라멕은 아내가 둘이었는데 하나는 이름이 아다고 다른 하나는 씰라였습니다.

19 Lamech married two women. The first was named Adah, and the second was Zillah.

20 아다는 야발을 낳았는데 그는 장막에 살며 가축을 기르는 사람들의 조상이 됐습니다.

20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the first of those who raise livestock and live in tents.

21 그의 동생의 이름은 유발인데 그는 하프와 피리를 연주하는 사람들의 조상이 됐습니다.

21 His brother's name was Jubal, the first of all who play the harp and flute.

22 씰라도 아들을 낳았는데 그의 이름은 두발가인으로 청동과 철로 각종 도구를 만드는 사람이었습니다. 두발가인의 누이동생은 나아마였습니다.

22 Lamech's other wife, Zillah, gave birth to a son named Tubal-cain. He became an expert in forging tools of bronze and iron. Tubal-cain had a sister named Naamah.

23 라멕이 자기 아내들에게 말했습니다.

23 One day Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; listen to me, you wives of Lamech. I have killed a man who attacked me, a young man who wounded me.

24 만약 가인을 위한 복수가 일곱 배라면 라멕을 위해서는 77배나 될 것이다."

24 If someone who kills Cain is punished seven times, then the one who kills me will be punished seventy-seven times!"

25 아담이 다시 그의 아내와 동침하니 하와가 아들을 낳아 셋이라 이름 짓고 그 이유를 이렇게 말했습니다. "가인이 죽인 아벨을 대신해서 하나님께서 내게 다른 씨를 주셨다."

25 Adam had sexual relations with his wife again, and she gave birth to another son. She named him Seth, for she said, "God has granted me another son in place of Abel, whom Cain killed."

26 셋도 아들을 낳아 그 이름을 에노스라 했습니다. 그때 사람들이 비로소 여호와의 이름을 부르기 시작했습니다.

26 When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the LORD by name.

1 <아담에서 노아까지> 아담의 역사에 대한 기록은 이렇습니다. 하나님께서 사람을 창조하실 때 하나님의 형상을 따라 만드셨습니다.

1 This is the written account of the descendants of Adam. When God created human beings, he made them to be like himself.

2 하나님께서 그들을 남자와 여자로 만드셨습니다. 그들이 창조되던 날에 하나님께서 그들에게 복을 주시고 그들의 이름을 '사람'이라 부르셨습니다.

2 He created them male and female, and he blessed them and called them "human."

3 아담이 130세에 자기의 모양을 따라 자기의 형상대로 아들을 낳고 그 이름을 셋이라고 불렀습니다.

3 When Adam was 130 years old, he became the father of a son who was just like him - in his very image. He named his son Seth.

4 셋을 낳은 후 아담은 800년을 더 살면서 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

4 After the birth of Seth, Adam lived another 800 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

5 아담은 모두 930년 동안 살다가 죽었습니다.

8 셋은 모두 912년을 살다가 죽었습니다.

9 에노스는 90세에 게난을 낳았습니다

9 When Enosh was 90 years old, he became the father of Kenan.

10 게난을 낳은 후 815년을 더 살면서 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

10 After the birth of Kenan, Enosh lived another 815 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

11 에노스는 모두 905년을 살다가 죽었습니다.

11 Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died.

12 게난은 70세에 마할랄렐을 낳았습니다.

12 When Kenan was 70 years old, he became the father of Mahalalel.

13 마할랄렐을 낳은 후 840년을 더 살면서 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

13 After the birth of Mahalalel, Kenan lived another 840 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

14 게난은 모두 910년을 살다가 죽었습니다.

14 Kenan lived 910 years, and then he died.

15 마할랄렐은 65세에 야렛을 낳았습니다.

15 When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared.

16 야렛을 낳은 후 830년을 더 살면서 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

16 After the birth of Jared, Mahalalel lived another 830 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

17 마할랄렐은 모두 895년을 살다가 죽었습니다.

17 Mahalalel lived 895 years, and then he died.

18 야렛은 162세에 에녹을 낳았습니다.

18 When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch.

19 에녹을 낳은 후 800년을 더 살면서 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

19 After the birth of Enoch, Jared lived another 800 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

20 야렛은 모두 962년을 살다가 죽었습니다.

20 Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.

21 에녹은 65세에 므두셀라를 낳았습니다.

21 When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah.

22 므두셀라를 낳은 후 300년 동안 하나님과 동행하며 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

22 After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

23 에녹은 모두 365년을 살았습니다.

23 Enoch lived 365 years,

24 에녹은 하나님과 동행하다가 세상에서 사라졌는데 하나님께서 그를 데려가셨기 때문입니다.

24 walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.

25 므두셀라는 187세에 라멕을 낳았습니다.

25 When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech.

26 라멕을 낳은 후 782년을 더 살면서 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

26 After the birth of Lamech, Methuselah lived another 782 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

27 므두셀라는 모두 969년을 살다가 죽었습니다.

27 Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.

28 라멕은 182세에 아들을 낳았습니다.

28 When Lamech was 182 years old, he became the father of a son.

29 그는 아들의 이름을 노아라 부르면서 "여호와께서 저주하신 땅으로 인해 우리가 겪는 일과 우리 손의 수고로움으로부터 이 아들이 우리를 위로할 것이다"라고 말했습니다.

29 Lamech named his son Noah, for he said, "May he bring us relief from our work and the painful labor of farming this ground that the LORD has cursed."

30 노아를 낳은 후 라멕은 595년을 더 살면서 다른 자녀들을 낳았습니다.

30 After the birth of Noah, Lamech lived another 595 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

31 라멕은 모두 777년을 살다가 죽었습니다.

31 Lamech lived 777 years, and then he died.

32 노아는 500세가 넘어 셈, 함, 야벳을 낳았습니다.

32 By the time Noah was 500 years old, he was the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
