7.

1 그러므로 사랑하는 여러분, 우리가 이 약속을 가지고 있으니 하나님을 두려워함으로 온전히 거룩함을 이루면서 육과 영의 모든 더러움에서 떠나 우리 자신을 깨끗하게 합시다.

1 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.

2 <고린도 교회의 회개로 인한 바울의 기쁨> 여러분은 우리를 받아 주십시오. 우리는 아무에게도 부당한 일을 하지 않았습니다. 아무에게도 손해를 입히지 않았습니다. 아무에게도 속여 빼앗는 일을 하지 않았습니다.

2 Please open your hearts to us. We have not done wrong to anyone, nor led anyone astray, nor taken advantage of anyone.

3 내가 정죄하려고 말을 하는 것이 아닙니다. 내가 전에도 말했지만 여러분이 우리 마음에 있어 우리가 여러분과 함께 죽고 함께 살고자 하기 때문입니다.

3 I'm not saying this to condemn you. I said before that you are in our hearts, and we live or die together with you.

4 나는 여러분에 대해 많은 신뢰감을 갖고 있고 여러분을 위해 자랑할 것도 많습니다. 우리의 온갖 환난 가운데서도 내게는 위로가 가득하고 기쁨이 넘칩니다.

4 I have the highest confidence in you, and I take great pride in you. You have greatly encouraged me and made me happy despite all our troubles.

5 우리가 마케도니아에 이르렀을 때 우리의 육체는 편치 못했고 사방으로는 환난을 당했습니다. 밖으로는 다툼이 있었고 안으로는 두려움이 있었습니다.

5 When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside.

6 그러나 낙심한 사람들을 위로하시는 하나님께서 디도를 돌아오게 하심으로 우리를 위로해 주셨습니다.

6 But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.

7 그가 돌아온 것뿐만 아니라 그가 여러분에게서 받은 위로로 우리를 위로해 주었습니다. 여러분이 내게 대해 사모하는 것과 애통해 하는 것과 열심을 내는 것에 대해 그의 보고를 받고 나는 더욱 기뻤습니다.

7 His presence was a joy, but so was the news he brought of the encouragement he received from you. When he told us how much you long to see me, and how sorry you are for what happened, and how loyal you are to me, I was filled with joy!

8 내가 편지로 인해 여러분을 근심하게 했다 할지라도 지금은 후회하지 않습니다. 내 편지가 여러분을 잠시 상심하게 했다는 것을 내가 알고 후회하기는 했으나

8 I am not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I was sorry at first, for I know it was painful to you for a little while.

9 지금은 내가 기뻐하고 있습니다. 왜냐하면 여러분을 근심하게 했기 때문이 아니라 여러분이 그 근심으로 회개하게 됐기 때문입니다. 여러분은 하나님의 뜻대로 근심한 것이므로 결국 여러분은 아무것도 손해를 본 것이 없습니다.

9 Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way.

10 하나님의 뜻대로 하는 근심은 구원에 이르는 회개를 가져오므로 후회할 것이 없습니다. 그러나 세상 근심은 죽음을 가져옵니다.

10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

11 보십시오. 하나님의 뜻대로 하는 이 근심이 여러분에게 얼마나 간절함을 불러일으키며 변호함과 의분과 두려움과 사모함과 열심과 응징의 마음을 불러일으켰습니까? 여러분은 모든 일에 여러분 자신의 깨끗함을 보여 주었습니다.

11 Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such longing to see me, such zeal, and such a readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make things right.

12 그러므로 내가 여러분에게 편지를 쓴 이유는 불의를 행한 사람이나 불의를 당한 사람을 위한 것이 아니라 우리에 대한 여러분의 간절함이 하나님 앞에서 여러분에게 밝히 드러나게 하려는 것입니다.

12 My purpose, then, was not to write about who did the wrong or who was wronged. I wrote to you so that in the sight of God you could see for yourselves how loyal you are to us.

13 이로 인해 우리는 위로를 받았습니다. 또한 우리가 받은 위로 위에 디도가 즐거워하는 것을 보고 우리는 더욱 기뻐하게 됐습니다. 그는 여러분 모두로 인해 심령에 새로운 힘을 얻었습니다.

13 We have been greatly encouraged by this. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was about the way all of you welcomed him and set his mind at ease.

14 내가 여러분에 대해 디도에게 무슨 자랑한 것이 있다 할지라도 나는 부끄럽지 않습니다. 우리가 여러분에게 말한 모든 것이 사실이었던 것처럼 우리가 디도에게 한 자랑도 사실이기 때문입니다.

14 I had told him how proud I was of you?and you didn't disappoint me. I have always told you the truth, and now my boasting to Titus has also proved true!

15 디도는 여러분 모두가 두렵고 떨리는 마음으로 자기를 받아들여 주고 순종한 것을 기억하며 여러분에 대한 애정이 더욱 깊어졌습니다.

15 Now he cares for you more than ever when he remembers the way all of you obeyed him and welcomed him with such fear and deep respect.

16 나는 여러분을 전적으로 신뢰할 수 있게 돼 기쁩니다.

16 I am very happy now because I have complete confidence in you.

 

 

8.

1 <주의 백성을 위한 헌금> 형제들이여, 우리는 마케도니아 교회들에게 주신 하나님의 은혜를 여러분에게 알리고자 합니다.

1 Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia.

2 그들은 수많은 시련 가운데서도 기쁨이 넘쳤고 극한 가난에도 불구하고 넘치는 헌금을 했습니다.

2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.

3 내가 증언하는데 그들은 힘닿는 대로 했을 뿐 아니라 힘에 부치도록 자진해서 했습니다.

3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will.

4 그들은 이 은혜와 성도 섬김의 일에 참여할 수 있도록 우리에게 간곡히 부탁했습니다.

4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem.

5 그들은 우리가 바라는 대로가 아니라 자신을 먼저 주께 드리고 하나님의 뜻을 따라 우리에게도 헌신했습니다.

5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.

6 그러므로 우리는 디도에게 이미 여러분 가운데 시작한 이 은혜로운 일을 성취하라고 권면했습니다.

6 So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving.

7 여러분은 모든 일, 곧 믿음과 말씀과 지식과 모든 열심과 우리에 대한 사랑에 풍성한 것같이 이 은혜로운 일에도 풍성하도록 하십시오.

7 Since you excel in so many ways-in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us - I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.

8 내가 명령으로 이 말을 하는 것이 아닙니다. 다만 다른 사람들의 열성을 통해 여러분의 사랑의 진실성을 증명해 보이려는 것입니다.

8 I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches.

9 여러분이 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜를 잘 알고 있듯이 그리스도께서는 부유하신 분으로서 여러분을 위해 가난하게 되셨습니다. 그분의 가난하심을 통해 여러분을 부유하게 하시려는 것입니다.

9 You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

10 이 일에 대해 내가 조언합니다. 이 일은 여러분에게 유익하며 이미 1년 전부터 여러분이 원해서 행해 온 일입니다.

10 Here is my advice： It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it.

11 그러므로 이제 마무리를 잘 하십시오. 여러분이 자원해 하던 것을 마무리하되 여러분이 가지고 있는 것으로 하십시오.

11 Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have.

12 만일 무엇보다 여러분에게 자원하는 마음이 있다면 하나님께서 그 가진 대로 받으실 것이요, 가지지 않은 것까지 받지는 않으실 것입니다.

12 Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don't have.

13 이는 내가 다른 사람들은 편안하게 하고 여러분은 곤고하게 하려는 것이 아니라 도리어 공평하게 하려는 것입니다.

13 Of course, I don't mean your giving should make life easy for others and hard for yourselves. I only mean that there should be some equality.

14 지금 여러분의 넉넉한 것으로 그들의 궁핍을 채워 주면 후에 그들의 넉넉한 것이 여러분의 궁핍을 채워 주어 서로 공평하게 될 것입니다.

14 Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in need. Later, they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things will be equal.

15 기록되기를 "많이 거둔 사람도 남지 않았고 적게 거둔 사람도 모자라지 않았다"라고 한 것과 같습니다.

15 As the Scriptures say, "Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough."

16 <헌금을 수령하기 위해 디도를 보내다> 여러분을 위해 디도의 마음에도 동일한 열심을 주시는 하나님께 감사를 드립니다.

16 But thank God! He has given Titus the same enthusiasm for you that I have.

17 디도는 우리의 요청을 받아들였을 뿐 아니라 더욱 열심을 내고 자진해 여러분에게로 갔습니다.

17 Titus welcomed our request that he visit you again. In fact, he himself was very eager to go and see you.

18 또 그와 함께한 형제를 보냈는데 그는 복음 전하는 일에 모든 교회로부터 칭찬을 받는 사람입니다.

18 We are also sending another brother with Titus. All the churches praise him as a preacher of the Good News.

19 더구나 그는 동일한 주의 영광과 우리의 선한 뜻을 나타내기 위해 여러 교회의 임명을 받고 우리와 함께 다니면서 우리가 행하는 이 은혜로운 일을 돕는 사람입니다.

19 He was appointed by the churches to accompany us as we take the offering to Jerusalem - a service that glorifies the Lord and shows our eagerness to help.

20 우리는 이 거액의 헌금을 맡아 봉사하는 일에 아무에게도 비난을 받지 않으려고 조심합니다.

20 We are traveling together to guard against any criticism for the way we are handling this generous gift.

21 우리가 주 앞에서뿐 아니라 사람들 앞에서도 옳게 행하고자 하기 때문입니다.

21 We are careful to be honorable before the Lord, but we also want everyone else to see that we are honorable.

22 우리는 그들과 함께 또 한 형제를 보냈습니다. 우리는 그가 모든 일에 열심을 내는 것을 확인했습니다. 지금 그는 여러분을 크게 신뢰하므로 더욱 열심을 내고 있습니다.

22 We are also sending with them another of our brothers who has proven himself many times and has shown on many occasions how eager he is. He is now even more enthusiastic because of his great confidence in you.

23 디도로 말하자면 그는 내 동료요, 여러분을 위한 내 동역자입니다. 우리 형제들로 말하자면 그들은 여러 교회의 사도들이요, 그리스도의 영광입니다.

23 If anyone asks about Titus, say that he is my partner who works with me to help you. And the brothers with him have been sent by the churches, and they bring honor to Christ.

24 그러므로 여러분은 여러 교회 앞에서 여러분의 사랑과 여러분에 대해 우리가 자랑하는 증거를 그들에게 보여 주십시오.

24 So show them your love, and prove to all the churches that our boasting about you is justified.

 

 

9.

1 성도를 섬기는 이 일에 대해서는 내가 여러분에게 더 이상 쓸 필요가 없습니다.

1 I really don't need to write to you about this ministry of giving for the believers in Jerusalem.

2 그 이유는 여러분의 열심을 내가 알고 있기 때문입니다. 내가 마케도니아 사람들에게 여러분에 대해 자랑하기를 "아가야에서는 이미 1년 전부터 준비가 돼 있다"라고 했습니다. 그래서 여러분의 열심이 많은 사람을 분발하게 했습니다.

2 For I know how eager you are to help, and I have been boasting to the churches in Macedonia that you in Greece were ready to send an offering a year ago. In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers to begin giving.

3 그러나 이 일에 대해 우리가 여러분을 자랑한 것이 헛되지 않고 여러분이 내가 말한 것같이 준비하게 하기 위해 내가 이 형제들을 보냈습니다.

3 But I am sending these brothers to be sure you really are ready, as I have been telling them, and that your money is all collected. I don't want to be wrong in my boasting about you.

4 만일 마케도니아 사람들이 나와 함께 가서 여러분이 준비되지 않은 것을 보게 된다면 여러분은 말할 것도 없고 우리가 이런 확신을 가진 것으로 인해 수치를 당하게 되지 않을까 염려됩니다.

4 We would be embarrassed?not to mention your own embarrassment?if some Macedonian believers came with me and found that you weren't ready after all I had told them!

5 그러므로 나는 그?형제들을 권면해 여러분에게 먼저 가서 여러분이 전에 약속한 헌금을 미리 준비하도록 하는 것이 필요하다고 생각했습니다. 이렇게 해야 이 준비된 것이 인색함으로 한 것이 아니라 자발적으로 한 것이 될 것입니다.

5 So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make sure the gift you promised is ready. But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.

6 <풍성한 헌금에 대한 격려> 이것이 바로 적게 심는 사람은 적게 거두고 많이 심는 사람은 많이 거둔다는 말입니다.

6 Remember this?a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.

7 각자 마음에 정한 대로 하되 아까워하거나 억지로 하지 마십시오. 하나님께서는 기쁨으로 내는 사람을 사랑하십니다.

7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully."

8 하나님은 여러분에게 모든 은혜를 넘치게 하실 수 있는 분이십니다. 이는 여러분으로 하여금 모든 일에 항상 넉넉해서 모든 선한 일을 넘치도록 하게 하시려는 것입니다.

8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

9 기록되기를 "그가 흩어 가난한 사람들에게 주셨으니 그의 의가 영원토록 있도다" 라고 한 것과 같습니다.

9 As the Scriptures say, "They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever."

10 심는 사람에게 씨와 먹을 양식을 주시는 하나님께서는 여러분에게 심을 씨를 주시고 풍성하게 하시고 많은 열매를 거두게 하실 것입니다.

10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.

11 여러분은 모든 일에 풍성하게 될 것입니다. 바로 그 풍성한 헌금이 우리를 통해 전달됨으로 사람들로 하여금 하나님께 감사드리게 할 것입니다.

11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.

12 이 봉사의 직무는 성도들의 궁핍을 채워 줄 뿐 아니라 하나님께 드리는 많은 감사로 인해 더욱 풍성하게 될 것입니다.

12 So two good things will result from this ministry of giving - the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.

13 이 직무의 증거를 통해 그들은 여러분이 그리스도의 복음을 고백하고 순종한다는 것과 그들에게나 다른 모든 사람에게 대한 여러분의 넉넉한 헌금으로 인해 하나님께 영광을 돌릴 것입니다.

13 As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ.

14 또한 그들은 여러분을 위해 간구하며 여러분에게 주신 하나님의 넘치는 은혜로 인해 여러분을 사모합니다.

14 And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you.

15 말로 다할 수 없는 은사를 주시는 하나님께 감사를 드립니다.

15 Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!

 

 

10.

1 <자신의 사도직을 변호하는 바울> 여러분과 얼굴을 마주 대하고 있을 때는 유순하나 떠나 있으면 여러분에 대해 강경한 나 바울은 이제 그리스도의 온유와 관용으로 친히 여러분에게 권면합니다.

1 Now I, Paul, appeal to you with the gentleness and kindness of Christ?though I realize you think I am timid in person and bold only when I write from far away.

2 내가 여러분에게 요청하는 것은 내가 여러분에게 갈 때 우리가 육체를 따라 행한다고 여기는 사람들에게 내가 단호히 대처하는 것같이 여러분을 강경한 태도로 대하지 않도록 해 달라는 것입니다.

2 Well, I am begging you now so that when I come I won't have to be bold with those who think we act from human motives.

3 비록 우리가 육체를 입고 살고 있지만 육체를 따라 싸우지 않기 때문입니다.

3 We are human, but we don't wage war as humans do.

4 우리가 가지고 싸우는 무기는 육체에 속한 것이 아니라 견고한 요새를 무너뜨리는 하나님의 능력입니다. 우리는 모든 궤변을 무너뜨리고

4 We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.

5 하나님을 아는 지식을 대적해서 스스로 높아진 모든 주장을 무너뜨리고 모든 생각을 사로잡아 그리스도께 복종시킵니다.

5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

6 이와 더불어 우리는 여러분의 순종이 온전하게 됐을 때 모든 순종치 않는 사람들을 벌하기 위해 준비하고 있습니다.

6 And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.

7 여러분의 눈앞에 있는 것들을 보십시오. 만일 어떤 사람이 자기 자신이 그리스도께 속한 사람이라고 확신한다면 그가 그리스도께 속한 것처럼 우리도 또한 그러하다는 것을 생각하게 하십시오.

7 Look at the obvious facts. Those who say they belong to Christ must recognize that we belong to Christ as much as they do.

8 만일 우리가 우리의 권세를 좀 지나치게 자랑한다 해도 그것은 여러분을 파멸시키기 위해서가 아니라 여러분을 세우기 위해 주께서 우리에게 주신 것이므로 우리는 부끄럽지 않을 것입니다.

8 I may seem to be boasting too much about the authority given to us by the Lord. But our authority builds you up; it doesn't tear you down. So I will not be ashamed of using my authority.

9 나는 편지로 여러분을 두렵게 하려는 것처럼 보이고 싶지 않습니다.

9 I'm not trying to frighten you by my letters.

10 어떤 사람들은 말하기를 "그의 편지들은 무게가 있고 힘이 있으나 직접 대해 보면 약하고 말도 시원치 않다"라고 말합니다.

10 For some say, "Paul's letters are demanding and forceful, but in person he is weak, and his speeches are worthless!"

11 그러나 이런 사람들은 떠나 있을 때 편지로 보는 그 모습이, 함께 있을 때 행하는 행동 그대로인 것을 알아야 합니다.

11 Those people should realize that our actions when we arrive in person will be as forceful as what we say in our letters from far away.

12 우리는 자화자찬하는 사람들의 아류가 되거나 그런 사람들과 비교하려 하지 않습니다. 그들은 자기들끼리 재고 자기들끼리 비교하니 지혜롭지 못합니다.

12 Oh, don't worry; we wouldn't dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!

13 그러나 우리는 정도 이상으로 자랑하지 않고 오직 하나님께서 정해 주신 분량의 범위 안에서 자랑하려고 합니다. 우리의 자랑은 곧 우리가 여러분에게까지 다다른 정도입니다.

13 We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you.

14 우리는 여러분에게 가지 못할 사람들로서 스스로 과신해 나아갔던 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 그리스도의 복음 안에서 여러분에게까지 갔던 것입니다.

14 We are not reaching beyond these boundaries when we claim authority over you, as if we had never visited you. For we were the first to travel all the way to Corinth with the Good News of Christ.

15 또한 우리는 다른 사람의 수고를 가지고 분량 밖의 자랑을 하는 것이 아닙니다. 다만 우리가 바라는 것은 여러분의 믿음이 자라남으로 우리의 활동 영역이 여러분 가운데서 크게 확대되는 것입니다.

15 Nor do we boast and claim credit for the work someone else has done. Instead, we hope that your faith will grow so that the boundaries of our work among you will be extended.

16 그래서 결국 여러분의 지역 너머까지 복음을 전파하기 위한 것이지 다른 사람의 영역에 이미 마련된 것들을 가지고 자랑하기 위한 것이 아닙니다.

16 Then we will be able to go and preach the Good News in other places far beyond you, where no one else is working. Then there will be no question of our boasting about work done in someone else's territory.

17 "자랑하는 사람은 주 안에서 자랑하도록 하십시오."

17 As the Scriptures say, "If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord."

18 옳다 인정함을 받는 사람은 자화자찬하는 사람이 아니라 오직 주께서 칭찬하시는 사람입니다.

18 When people commend themselves, it doesn't count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.
