1 <다리오에게 올린 닷드내의 보고> 예언자 학개와 잇도의 자손인 예언자 스가랴가 유다와 예루살렘에 사는 유다 사람들에게 이스라엘 하나님의 이름으로 예언했습니다.

1 At that time the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem. They prophesied in the name of the God of Israel who was over them.

2 그러자 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 요사닥의 아들 예수아가 일어나 예루살렘 하나님의 집을 다시 세우기 시작했습니다. 그때 하나님의 예언자들이 그들과 함께하며 도왔습니다.

2 Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jehozadak responded by starting again to rebuild the Temple of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them and helped them.

3 그때 유프라테스 강 건너편 총독 닷드내와 스달보스내와 그 동료들이 이스라엘 백성들에게 가서 말했습니다. "누가 당신들에게 성전을 재건하고 이 건물을 복구하라고 명령했소?"

3 But Tattenai, governor of the province west of the Euphrates River, and Shethar-bozenai and their colleagues soon arrived in Jerusalem and asked, "Who gave you permission to rebuild this Temple and restore this structure?"

4 그들은 또 다음과 같이 말했습니다. "성전 건축에 참여하고 있는 사람의 이름이 무엇인지 아시오?"

4 They also asked for the names of all the men working on the Temple.

5 그러나 하나님께서 유다 장로들을 지켜 주셨기에 그들은 건축자들을 더 이상 저지할 수 없었습니다. 그래서 다리오 왕에게 이 사실을 보고하고 답신을 받을 때까지 기다려야 했습니다.

5 But because their God was watching over them, the leaders of the Jews were not prevented from building until a report was sent to Darius and he returned his decision.

6 이것은 유프라테스 강 건너편 지방의 총독 닷드내와 스달보스내와 그 동료들과 관리들이 다리오 왕에게 보낸 상소문의 사본입니다.

6 This is a copy of the letter that Tattenai the governor, Shethar-bozenai, and the other officials of the province west of the Euphrates River sent to King Darius.

7 그들이 왕에게 보낸 보고서는 다음과 같습니다. "다리오 왕께 문안드립니다.

7 "To King Darius. Greetings.

8 왕께 알려 드립니다. 우리가 유다 지방에 가 보니 사람들이 위대하신 하나님의 성전을 짓기 위해 큰 돌을 쌓고 그 성벽의 대들보를 놓고 있었습니다. 이 일이 빠른 속도로 진행되고 있으며 그들의 손으로 훌륭하게 짓고 있습니다.

8 "The king should know that we went to the construction site of the Temple of the great God in the province of Judah. It is being rebuilt with specially prepared stones, and timber is being laid in its walls. The work is going forward with great energy and success.

9 우리가 그 백성의 장로들에게 '누가 성전을 재건하고 이 건물을 복구하라고 명령했느냐?'고 물었습니다.

9 "We asked the leaders, 'Who gave you permission to rebuild this Temple and restore this structure?'

10 또 공사를 책임지고 있는 우두머리들의 이름을 적어 왕에게 알려 드리기 위해 그들의 이름을 물었습니다.

10 And we demanded their names so that we could tell you who the leaders were.

11 그들은 우리에게 이같이 대답했습니다. '우리는 하늘과 땅의 주인이신 하나님의 종으로서 수년 전에 세웠던 성전을 지금 재건하고 있습니다. 이 성전은 이스라엘의 위대한 왕께서 지어 완공한 것인데

11 "This was their answer： 'We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the Temple that was built here many years ago by a great king of Israel.

12 우리 조상들이 하늘의 하나님의 진노를 사게 돼 여호와께서 우리 조상들을 갈대아 사람인 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살에게 넘겨주셨습니다. 느부갓네살 왕은 성전을 허물고 백성들을 바벨론으로 잡아갔습니다.

12 But because our ancestors angered the God of heaven, he abandoned them to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, who destroyed this Temple and exiled the people to Babylonia.

13 그러나 바벨론 왕 고레스 1년에 고레스 왕이 우리에게 하나님의 집을 다시 세우라는 명령을 내렸습니다.

13 However, King Cyrus of Babylon, during the first year of his reign, issued a decree that the Temple of God should be rebuilt.

14 고레스 왕은 심지어 느부갓네살 왕이 전에 예루살렘 성전에서 가져다 바벨론 신당에 들여놓았던 하나님의 집의 금은 집기들까지 바벨론 신당에서 다 내주었습니다. 그 후 고레스 왕은 자기가 총독으로 임명한 세스바살이라는 사람에게 그것들을 내주며

14 King Cyrus returned the gold and silver cups that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the Temple of God in Jerusalem and had placed in the temple of Babylon. These cups were taken from that temple and presented to a man named Sheshbazzar, whom King Cyrus appointed as governor of Judah.

15 이 집기들을 가지고 가서 예루살렘의 성전 안에 보관하고 옛터에 성전을 다시 세우라고 말했습니다.

15 The king instructed him to return the cups to their place in Jerusalem and to rebuild the Temple of God there on its original site.

16 그리하여 세스바살이 와서 예루살렘 하나님의 집의 기초를 놓았고 그날부터 지금까지 공사를 계속해 왔는데 아직도 끝나지 않은 것입니다.'

16 So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the Temple of God in Jerusalem. The people have been working on it ever since, though it is not yet completed.'

17 그러므로 왕께서 기쁘게 여기시면 바벨론의 왕실 문서 보관소에서 고레스 왕이 과연 예루살렘에 하나님의 집을 다시 세우라는 명령을 내렸는지 조사해 주십시오. 그다음 왕께서 이 문제에 대해 원하시는 바를 결정하셔서 우리에게 보내 주십시오."

17 "Therefore, if it pleases the king, we request that a search be made in the royal archives of Babylon to discover whether King Cyrus ever issued a decree to rebuild God's Temple in Jerusalem. And then let the king send us his decision in this matter."

6.

1 <다리오의 칙령> 다리오 왕은 명령을 내려 바벨론의 문서 보관소에 보관된 서류를 조사했습니다.

1 So King Darius issued orders that a search be made in the Babylonian archives, which were stored in the treasury.

2 But it was at the fortress at Ecbatana in the province of Media that a scroll was found. This is what it said.

3 "고레스 왕 1년에 고레스 왕이 예루살렘의 하나님의 성전에 관해 칙령을 내렸습니다. '성전, 곧 희생제사와 번제를 드리는 곳을 재건하도록 하라. 그 기초를 놓되 높이 60규빗, 너비 60규빗으로 하고

3 "Memorandum： "In the first year of King Cyrus's reign, a decree was sent out concerning the Temple of God at Jerusalem. "Let the Temple be rebuilt on the site where Jews used to offer their sacrifices, using the original foundations. Its height will be ninety feet, and its width will be ninety feet.

4 큰 돌을 세 층으로 올리고 그 위에 목재를 한 층 놓으라. 거기에 드는 비용은 왕실에서 충당할 것이다.

4 Every three layers of specially prepared stones will be topped by a layer of timber. All expenses will be paid by the royal treasury.

5 또 하나님의 집의 금은 집기들, 곧 느부갓네살이 예루살렘 성전에서 바벨론에 가져온 것들은 다시 예루살렘 성전의 원래 있던 곳으로 갖다 놓되 각각 제자리에 두도록 하라.'"

5 Furthermore, the gold and silver cups, which were taken to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar from the Temple of God in Jerusalem, must be returned to Jerusalem and put back where they belong. Let them be taken back to the Temple of God."

6 다리오 왕은 회답을 보내기를 "그러므로 이제 유프라테스 강 건너편 총독 닷드내와 스달보스내와 그 지방에 있는 동료 관리들은 거기에 신경 쓰지 말라.

6 So King Darius sent this message： "Now therefore, Tattenai, governor of the province west of the Euphrates River, and Shethar-bozenai, and your colleagues and other officials west of the Euphrates River - stay away from there!

7 하나님의 성전 짓는 일을 가만히 두라. 유다 총독과 유다 장로들이 원래 자리에 하나님의 성전을 재건하게 놓아두라.

7 Do not disturb the construction of the Temple of God. Let it be rebuilt on its original site, and do not hinder the governor of Judah and the elders of the Jews in their work.

8 또한 내가 칙령을 내리노니 너희는 하나님의 집을 짓는 유다 장로들을 위해 할 일이 있다. 곧 이 사람들에게 드는 경비는 왕실의 것으로 충당하되 유프라테스 강 건너편 지방의 세금에서 다 내도록 해 성전 짓는 일에 지장이 없도록 하라.

8 "Moreover, I hereby decree that you are to help these elders of the Jews as they rebuild this Temple of God. You must pay the full construction costs, without delay, from my taxes collected in the province west of the Euphrates River so that the work will not be interrupted.

9 하늘의 하나님께 번제물로 드릴 수송아지와 숫양과 어린양, 또 밀과 소금과 포도주와 기름 등 필요한 것은 무엇이든지 예루살렘 제사장들이 요청하는 대로 날마다 빠짐없이 주도록 하라.

9 "Give the priests in Jerusalem whatever is needed in the way of young bulls, rams, and male lambs for the burnt offerings presented to the God of heaven. And without fail, provide them with as much wheat, salt, wine, and olive oil as they need each day.

10 그리하여 그들이 하늘의 하나님이 기뻐하시는 제물을 드리고 왕과 왕자들의 안위를 위해 기도하게 하라.

10 Then they will be able to offer acceptable sacrifices to the God of heaven and pray for the welfare of the king and his sons.

11 또 내가 칙령을 내리노니 누구든 이 칙령을 변경하면 그 집에서 들보를 빼내 그것으로 그를 꿰어 매달 것이요, 그 집은 이 때문에 거름 더미가 될 것이다.

11 "Those who violate this decree in any way will have a beam pulled from their house. Then they will be tied to it and flogged, and their house will be reduced to a pile of rubble.

12 어떤 왕이나 백성이라도 손을 들어 이 칙령을 바꾸거나 예루살렘 성전을 허무는 사람은 그의 이름을 그곳에 두신 하나님께서 멸망시키실 것이다. 나 다리오가 칙령을 내리니 즉각 수행하도록 하라."

12 May the God who has chosen the city of Jerusalem as the place to honor his name destroy any king or nation that violates this command and destroys this Temple."I, Darius, have issued this decree. Let it be obeyed with all diligence."

13 <성전의 완공과 봉헌식> 유프라테스 강 건너편 총독 닷드내와 스달보스내와 그 동료들은 다리오 왕이 보낸 칙령에 따라 일을 즉시 수행했습니다.

13 Tattenai, governor of the province west of the Euphrates River, and Shethar-bozenai and their colleagues complied at once with the command of King Darius.

14 그리하여 유다 장로들은 예언자 학개와 잇도의 자손 스가랴의 예언에 힘입어 건축을 성공적으로 진행해 나갔습니다. 그들은 이스라엘의 하나님의 명령에 따라 페르시아 왕 고레스, 다리오, 아닥사스다의 칙령에 따라 드디어 성전을 완공했습니다.

14 So the Jewish elders continued their work, and they were greatly encouraged by the preaching of the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo. The Temple was finally finished, as had been commanded by the God of Israel and decreed by Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes, the kings of Persia.

15 성전이 완공된 것은 다리오 왕 6년 아달 월 3일이었습니다.

15 The Temple was completed on March 12, during the sixth year of King Darius's reign.

16 제사장들, 레위 사람들, 나머지 포로로 잡혀갔다 돌아온 사람들 등 모든 이스라엘 백성은 기쁨으로 하나님의 집 봉헌식을 거행했습니다.

16 The Temple of God was then dedicated with great joy by the people of Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the rest of the people who had returned from exile.

17 그들은 하나님의 집 봉헌식을 위해 황소 100마리, 숫양 200마리, 어린양 400마리를 드리고 모든 이스라엘을 위한 속죄제물로 이스라엘의 지파 수에 따라 숫염소 12마리를 드렸습니다.

17 During the dedication ceremony for the Temple of God, 100 young bulls, 200 rams, and 400 male lambs were sacrificed. And 12 male goats were presented as a sin offering for the twelve tribes of Israel.

18 그다음에 모세의 책에 기록된 대로 제사장을 각 분반대로, 레위 사람을 그 계열대로 예루살렘의 하나님을 섬기게 했습니다.

18 Then the priests and Levites were divided into their various divisions to serve at the Temple of God in Jerusalem, as prescribed in the Book of Moses.

19 <유월절> 포로로 잡혀갔다 돌아온 사람들은 첫째 달 14일에 유월절을 지켰습니다.

19 On April 21 the returned exiles celebrated Passover.

20 제사장과 레위 사람은 함께 몸을 정결하게 했고 다 정결하게 된 후에 포로로 잡혀갔던 모든 사람을 위해, 자기 형제 제사장을 위해, 또 자신들을 위해 유월절 양을 잡았습니다.

20 The priests and Levites had purified themselves and were ceremonially clean. So they slaughtered the Passover lamb for all the returned exiles, for their fellow priests, and for themselves.

21 그리하여 포로로 잡혀갔다 돌아온 이스라엘 백성과 스스로 이방 민족의 부정한 관습을 버리고 자기를 구별하여 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찾는 모든 사람이 유월절 음식을 먹었습니다.

21 The Passover meal was eaten by the people of Israel who had returned from exile and by the others in the land who had turned from their immoral customs to worship the LORD, the God of Israel.

22 그들은 또 7일 동안 기쁜 마음으로 무교절을 지켰습니다. 여호와께서 그들을 기쁘게 하셨고 또 그들에 대한 앗시리아 왕의 마음을 바꿔 주셔서 그가 오히려 하나님, 곧 이스라엘 하나님의 집을 건축하는 데 있어 그들을 도와주게 하셨기 때문입니다.

22 Then they celebrated the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days. There was great joy throughout the land because the LORD had caused the king of Assyria to be favorable to them, so that he helped them to rebuild the Temple of God, the God of Israel.

7.

1 <에스라가 예루살렘으로 돌아오다> 이 일이 있은 후 페르시아 왕 아닥사스다의 통치기에 에스라라는 사람이 있었습니다. 그는 스라야의 아들이자 아사랴의 손자, 힐기야의 증손,

1 Many years later, during the reign of King Artaxerxes of Persia, there was a man named Ezra. He was the son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

2 살룸의 현손, 사독의 5대손, 아히둡의 6대손,

2 son of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub,

3 아마랴의 7대손, 아사랴의 8대손, 므라욧의 9대손,

3 son of Amariah, son of Azariah, son of Meraioth,

4 스라히야의 10대손, 웃시엘의 11대손, 북기의 12대손,

4 son of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,

5 아비수아의 13대손, 비느하스의 14대손, 엘르아살의 15대손, 대제사장 아론의 16대손이었습니다.

5 son of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the high priest.

6 이 에스라가 바벨론에서 올라왔습니다. 그는 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 주신 모세의 율법에 정통한 서기관으로서 그의 하나님 여호와의 손길이 그 위에 있었기 때문에 왕은 에스라가 요청한 것이라면 다 들어주었습니다.

6 This Ezra was a scribe who was well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given to the people of Israel. He came up to Jerusalem from Babylon, and the king gave him everything he asked for, because the gracious hand of the LORD his God was on him.

7 또 이스라엘 백성 일부와 제사장과 레위 사람과 노래하는 사람과 문지기와 느디님 사람 가운데 일부도 아닥사스다 왕 7년에 예루살렘으로 올라왔습니다.

7 Some of the people of Israel, as well as some of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and Temple servants, traveled up to Jerusalem with him in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes' reign.

8 에스라는 아닥사스다 왕 7년 다섯째 달에 예루살렘에 도착했습니다.

8 Ezra arrived in Jerusalem in August of that year.

9 에스라는 첫째 달 1일에 바벨론을 출발해, 그의 하나님의 은혜의 손길이 그 위에 있었기 때문에, 다섯째 달 1일에 예루살렘에 도착할 수 있었습니다.

9 He had arranged to leave Babylon on April 8, the first day of the new year, and he arrived at Jerusalem on August 4, for the gracious hand of his God was on him.

10 에스라는 이전부터 여호와의 율법을 연구하고 지키며 이스라엘에게 율례와 규례를 가르치겠다고 마음을 정했습니다.

10 This was because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the LORD and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel.

11 <아닥사스다가 에스라에게 보낸 칙서> 다음은 이스라엘을 위한 여호와의 계명의 말씀과 율례에 정통한 서기관이자 제사장인 에스라에게 아닥사스다 왕이 보낸 칙서의 사본입니다.

11 King Artaxerxes had given a copy of the following letter to Ezra, the priest and scribe who studied and taught the commands and decrees of the LORD to Israel.

12 "모든 왕의 왕인 아닥사스다가 하늘의 하나님의 율법을 가르치는 서기관이자 제사장인 에스라에게 칙서를 내리노라. 평안을 비오.

12 "From Artaxerxes, the king of kings, to Ezra the priest, the teacher of the law of the God of heaven. Greetings

13 이제 내가 칙령을 내리겠소. 내 나라 안에 있는 이스라엘 백성들이나 제사장이나 레위 사람 가운데 그대와 함께 예루살렘에 가고 싶어 하는 사람은 다 가도 좋소.

13 "I decree that any of the people of Israel in my kingdom, including the priests and Levites, may volunteer to return to Jerusalem with you.

14 당신은 왕과 일곱 명의 참모에 의해 당신의 손안에 있는 하나님의 율법에 따라 유다와 예루살렘 사정을 알아보려고 보냄받은 것이므로

14 I and my council of seven hereby instruct you to conduct an inquiry into the situation in Judah and Jerusalem, based on your God's law, which is in your hand.

15 예루살렘에 거처를 두신 이스라엘의 하나님께 왕과 참모들이 예물로 드릴 은과 금을 가져가고

15 We also commission you to take with you silver and gold, which we are freely presenting as an offering to the God of Israel who lives in Jerusalem.

16 바벨론 지방에서 얻을 모든 금은과 백성들과 제사장이 예루살렘에 있는 그들의 하나님의 성전에 기꺼이 서원한 제물도 가져가시오.

16 "Furthermore, you are to take any silver and gold that you may obtain from the province of Babylon, as well as the voluntary offerings of the people and the priests that are presented for the Temple of their God in Jerusalem.

17 이 돈으로 즉각 황소와 숫양과 어린양을 사서 곡식제사와 전제와 함께 예루살렘에 있는 당신의 하나님의 성전 제단에 바치시오.

17 These donations are to be used specifically for the purchase of bulls, rams, male lambs, and the appropriate grain offerings and liquid offerings, all of which will be offered on the altar of the Temple of your God in Jerusalem.

18 남은 금은에 대해서는 당신과 당신의 형제 유다 사람들이 당신의 하나님의 뜻에 따라 가장 좋다고 여기는 일을 하도록 하시오.

18 Any silver and gold that is left over may be used in whatever way you and your colleagues feel is the will of your God.

19 당신의 하나님 성전에 바치라고 당신에게 맡긴 모든 기물들을 예루살렘에 계신 하나님께 갖다 바치시오.

19 "But as for the cups we are entrusting to you for the service of the Temple of your God, deliver them all to the God of Jerusalem.

20 그리고 당신의 하나님의 성전을 위해 그 밖에 필요한 것, 곧 당신이 쓸 것이 있으면 왕실 국고에서 갖다 쓰시오.

20 If you need anything else for your God's Temple or for any similar needs, you may take it from the royal treasury.

21 이제 나 아닥사스다 왕은 강 건너편의 재무관들에게 명령하니 하늘의 하나님의 율법을 가르치는 서기관이자 제사장인 에스라가 요청하는 것은 무엇이든 신속하게 내주되

21 "I, Artaxerxes the king, hereby send this decree to all the treasurers in the province west of the Euphrates River： 'You are to give Ezra, the priest and teacher of the law of the God of heaven, whatever he requests of you.

22 은 100달란트, 밀 100고르, 포도주 100밧, 올리브기름 100밧의 범위 내에서 주고 소금은 제한 없이 주도록 하라.

22 You are to give him up to 7,500 pounds of silver, 500 bushels of wheat, 550 gallons of wine, 550 gallons of olive oil, and an unlimited supply of salt.

23 무슨 일이든 하늘의 하나님께서 명령하신 일이면 하늘의 하나님의 성전을 위해 신속하게 수행하도록 하라. 하나님의 진노가 왕인 나와 내 왕자들의 영토에 있게 할 수야 없지 않느냐?

23 Be careful to provide whatever the God of heaven demands for his Temple, for why should we risk bringing God's anger against the realm of the king and his sons?

24 너희가 알아 둘 것은 제사장이나 레위 사람이나 노래하는 사람이나 문지기나 느디님 사람이나 하나님의 집에서 일하는 다른 사람 가운데 어느 누구에게도 너희가 조세나 조공이나 관세를 부과하지 못한다는 점이다.

24 I also decree that no priest, Levite, singer, gatekeeper, Temple servant, or other worker in this Temple of God will be required to pay tribute, customs, or tolls of any kind.'

25 그리고 에스라 당신은 당신에게 있는 당신의 하나님의 지혜를 따라 행정관과 재판관을 세워 강 건너편에 사는 모든 백성, 당신의 하나님의 율법을 아는 사람까지 모두 재판하도록 하시오. 그리고 율법을 모르는 사람은 당신들이 알아서 가르치도록 하시오.

25 "And you, Ezra, are to use the wisdom your God has given you to appoint magistrates and judges who know your God's laws to govern all the people in the province west of the Euphrates River. Teach the law to anyone who does not know it.

26 누구든 당신의 하나님의 율법과 왕의 법령을 지키지 않는 사람은 사형이든, 추방이든, 재산 몰수든, 투옥이든 즉각 처벌을 하시오."

26 Anyone who refuses to obey the law of your God and the law of the king will be punished immediately, either by death, banishment, confiscation of goods, or imprisonment."

27 우리 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 찬양하십시오. 여호와께서 이렇게 왕의 마음에 예루살렘에 있는 여호와의 집을 아름답게 하려는 마음을 주셨고

27 Praise the LORD, the God of our ancestors, who made the king want to beautify the Temple of the LORD in Jerusalem!

28 왕과 그 고문관들과 왕의 모든 고관들 앞에서 선한 은총을 내게 베푸셨습니다. 내 하나님 여호와의 손길이 내 위에 있었으므로 내가 용기를 얻고 이스라엘 출신의 지도자들을 모아 나와 함께 올라가게 했습니다.

28 And praise him for demonstrating such unfailing love to me by honoring me before the king, his council, and all his mighty nobles! I felt encouraged because the gracious hand of the LORD my God was on me. And I gathered some of the leaders of Israel to return with me to Jerusalem.
