3:1 사데 교회의 사자에게 편지하라 하나님의 일곱 영과 일곱 별을 가지신 이가 이르시되 내가 네 행위를 아노니 네가 살았다 하는 이름은 가졌으나 죽은 자로다

1 "Write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis. This is the message from the one who has the sevenfold Spirit of God and the seven stars： "I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive - but you are dead.

2 너는 일깨어 그 남은 바 죽게 된 것을 굳건하게 하라 내 하나님 앞에 네 행위의 온전한 것을 찾지 못하였노니

2 Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.

3 그러므로 네가 어떻게 받았으며 어떻게 들었는지 생각하고 지켜 회개하라 만일 일깨지 아니하면 내가 도둑 같이 이르리니 어느 때에 네게 이를는지 네가 알지 못하리라

3 Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don't wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.

4 그러나 사데에 그 옷을 더럽히지 아니한 자 몇 명이 네게 있어 흰 옷을 입고 나와 함께 다니리니 그들은 합당한 자인 연고라

"Yet there are some in the church in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes with evil. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

 

사람은 주변환경에 대해 말을 많이 합니다.

People often talk about their surroundings. 

"주변환경 때문에 '성공적 삶'을 살 수 있게 되었다". 라고 말하는 사람이 있는 반면에,

Some people say that they were "able to live a 'successful life' due to their environment," while there are other people

"주변환경이 그 사람을 다 망쳤다"라고 말하기도 합니다.

who say that their "environment ruined them." 

 

사데교회는 분명 예수님의 칭찬은 없고 책망만 있는 교회입니다.

The church in Sardis does not receive any compliments, but are only scolded.

신앙환경이 굉장히 나쁜 교회입니다.

It is a church where the religious environment is very bad.

그러나 이 사데교회에 “그 옷을 더럽히지 않은 몇 명이 있다”(4절)라고 말씀하고 있습니다.

However in verse 4, it says that there lies some " who have not soiled their clothes with evil" in the church in Sardis.

 

하나님 아버지는 우리가 이 세상에서 어떤 삶을 살고 있는지 모두 알고 계십니다.

Our Heavenly Father knows everything about what kind of lives we live. 

힘들고 어려운 처지에 있거나, 세상 즐거움에 빠진 사람들은 “하나님이 없다”라고 외칩니다.

People who are in a distressing and difficult time, or people who have fallen into the trap of the world's joys, shout "There is no God." 

세상살이가 너무 힘들어서, 또는 너무 살기 좋아서, 하나님을 외면하기도 하는 것이 우리들입니다.

We turn away from God because the world is so harsh, or because the world is so enjoyable.

그러므로 깨어 정신을 차리고, 내게 남겨진 적은 것이라도 확실히 붙잡아야 합니다.

But we must wake up and at least hold on to what little we have left. 

 

오늘의 말씀처럼, “자신의 옷을 더럽히지 않은 사람”이 되길 힘써야합니다.

Just like today's Scripture says, we must do our best to become people that "have not soiled their clothes with evil."

상황에 따라 내 마음이 이쪽 저쪽으로 가는 것이 아니라,

Our hearts cannot sway based on our circumstances. 

어떤 상황에서도 자신의 삶을 “순결하게 지키는 사람”이 되어야 합니다.

Instead, no matter the situation, we must be people who protect our lives with purity. 

어떤 변명도 하지 않고, 자신의 삶을 ‘순결함’으로 지키는 사람이 됩시다.

Without making excuses, let's become people who guard our lives with purity.  

나의 힘(power)이 아니라,

It is not through my power 

나의 지식과 재물이 아니라,

nor my knowledge nor my wealth

좋은 인맥(good relationship with successful people)이 아니라,

nor my networks,

세상의 나의 것이 아닌, 하나님 나라에서 온 ‘신령한 것들’로 내 삶을 지킵시다.

it is not through anything of this world, but through the "Spiritual things" from Heaven that I use to guard my life.

그리하여 세상 끝날에 예수님 곁에 ‘힌 옷 입은 사람’이 되길 소망하며.

And so, with the hope that we become the people who walk with Jesus in white on the final day,

오늘도 예수님의 순결한 삶이 내 삶에 나타나길 간절히 기도합니다.  

I earnestly pray that Jesus' pure life is revealed in my life today.
