1 니느웨에 관한 묵시입니다. 엘고스 사람 나훔이 본 환상을 기록한 책입니다.

1 This message concerning Nineveh came as a vision to Nahum, who lived in Elkosh.

 

2 <니느웨에 대한 여호와의 진노> 여호와께서는 질투가 많으시고 복수하시는 하나님이시다. 여호와께서는 복수하시고 진노하시는데 그분의 대적들에게 복수하시고 그분의 원수에게 진노하신다.

2 The Lord is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies!

 

3 여호와께서는 진노하시는 데 더디시고 힘이 강하신 분이시다. 하지만 죄인들을 결코 그냥 내버려 두지 않으신다. 그분의 길은 회오리바람과 폭풍 속에 있고 구름은 그분의 발의 흙먼지다.

3 The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.

 

4 그분께서는 바다를 꾸짖어 마르게 하시고 모든 강들을 마르게 하신다. 그래서 바산과 갈멜이 시들고 레바논의 꽃봉오리가 시든다.

4 At his command the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither.

 

5 산들이 그분 앞에서 진동하고 언덕들이 사라져 없어진다. 그분 앞에서 땅, 곧 세상과 그 안에 사는 모두가 뒤집어진다.

5 In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed.

 

6 그분의 분노 앞에서 누가 버틸 수 있겠는가? 그분의 노여움을 누가 당해 낼 수 있겠는가? 그분의 진노는 불처럼 쏟아지고 그분에 의해서 바위들이 깨진다.

6 Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence.

 

7 여호와께서는 선하시다. 환난 날에 피난처가 되신다. 그분은 그분께 피하는 사람들을 아신다.

7 The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.

 

8 그러나 그분께 맞서는 사람은 넘치는 홍수로 완전히 멸하시고 그분의 원수들은 어둠 속으로 쫓아 버리실 것이다.

8 But he will sweep away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He will pursue his foes into the darkness of night.

 

9 너희가 여호와께 대항해 음모를 꾸며도 그분께서는 완전히 없애실 것이다. 반항이 두 번 다시 일어나지 않을 것이다.

9 Why are you scheming against the Lord? He will destroy you with one blow; he won't need to strike twice!

 

10 그들은 가시덤불처럼 엉클어져 있고 술꾼들처럼 취해 있다. 그들은 마른 지푸라기처럼 완전히 불에 타 버릴 것이다.

10 His enemies, tangled like thornbushes and staggering like drunks, will be burned up like dry stubble in a field.

 

11 여호와께 대항해 악을 도모하는 사람, 사악한 조언자가 바로 네게서 나왔다.

11 Who is this wicked counselor of yours who plots evil against the Lord?

 

12 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "그들이 빈틈없고 숫자적으로 많을지라도 그들이 잘려 나가 사라지고 말 것이다. 내가 네게 어려움을 주었지만 이제 다시는 네게 어려움이 없을 것이다.

12 This is what the Lord says. "Though the Assyrians have many allies, they will be destroyed and disappear. O my people, I have punished you before, but I will not punish you again.

 

13 이제 내가 네 목에서 그 멍에를 부수고 너를 묶고 있는 것을 끊어 버리겠다."

13 Now I will break the yoke of bondage from your neck and tear off the chains of Assyrian oppression."

 

14 여호와께서 너에 대해 명령을 내리셨다. "네 이름을 이어 갈 후손이 더 이상 없을 것이다. 네 신전에 있는 새겨 만든 우상들과 녹여 만든 우상들을 내가 없애 버리겠다. 너는 아무런 쓸모가 없기에 내가 네 무덤을 만들 것이다."

14 And this is what the Lord says concerning the Assyrians in Nineveh. "You will have no more children to carry on your name. I will destroy all the idols in the temples of your gods. I am preparing a grave for you because you are despicable!"

 

15 보아라. 저기 산 위에 좋은 소식을 가져오는 사람의 발걸음을. 그가 평안을 선포하는구나! 유다야, 네 정해진 절기를 지키고 네가 한 서원을 지켜라. 악한 사람들이 다시는 너를 휩쓸고 지나가지 않을 것이기 때문이다. 그는 완전히 없어져 버렸다.

15 Look! A messenger is coming over the mountains with good news! He is bringing a message of peace. Celebrate your festivals, O people of Judah, and fulfill all your vows, for your wicked enemies will never invade your land again. They will be completely destroyed!

 

 

2.

1 <니느웨의 멸망> 침략군이 너를 향해 왔다. 성을 지켜보아라. 길을 잘 살펴보아라. 준비를 단단히 해 보아라. 네 온 힘을 다해 보아라.

1 Your enemy is coming to crush you, Nineveh. Man the ramparts! Watch the roads! Prepare your defenses! Call out your forces!

 

2 파괴자들이 이스라엘과 야곱을 폐허로 만들고 그들의 포도나무 가지들을 망쳐 버렸다 할지라도 여호와께서 이스라엘의 영광과 야곱의 영광을 회복시켜 주실 것이다.

2 Even though the destroyer has destroyed Judah, the Lord will restore its honor. Israel's vine has been stripped of branches, but he will restore its splendor.

 

3 침략군 용사들의 방패는 붉은색이고 용맹스러운 군사들은 자주색 옷을 입었다. 그들이 준비된 날에 전차들 위의 쇠붙이는 번쩍거리고 방백나무로 만든 창들은 요동친다.

3 Shields flash red in the sunlight! See the scarlet uniforms of the valiant troops! Watch as their glittering chariots move into position, with a forest of spears waving above them.

 

4 전차들이 거리로 질주하며 광장에서 이리저리 내달리는구나. 마치 횃불처럼 보이고 마치 번개처럼 빨리 달린다.

4 The chariots race recklessly along the streets and rush wildly through the squares. They flash like firelight and move as swiftly as lightning.

 

5 그가 그의 장교들을 소집한다. 그들은 비틀거리면서도 진격한다. 성벽에 재빨리 다다른다. 성을 공격할 준비를 갖춘다.

5 The king shouts to his officers; they stumble in their haste, rushing to the walls to set up their defenses.

 

6 강의 수문이 열리고 왕궁이 무너진다.

6 The river gates have been torn open! The palace is about to collapse!

 

7 이미 결정됐다. 왕비가 벌거벗겨져 포로가 돼 끌려가고 그녀의 시녀들이 비둘기 소리처럼 구슬프게 울며 자기 가슴을 친다.

7 Nineveh's exile has been decreed, and all the servant girls mourn its capture. They moan like doves and beat their breasts in sorrow.

 

8 옛적부터 니느웨는 마치 물이 가득 찬 연못처럼 백성이 많았던 성이지만 이제 그들은 도망치고 있다. "서라! 서라!" 외치지만 아무도 뒤를 돌아보지 않는다.

8 Nineveh is like a leaking water reservoir! The people are slipping away. "Stop, stop!" someone shouts, but no one even looks back.

 

9 너희는 은을 약탈하라! 너희는 금을 약탈하라! 온갖 값진 것들과 한없이 많은 보물이 있다.

9 Loot the silver! Plunder the gold! There's no end to Nineveh's treasures - its vast, uncounted wealth.

 

10 텅텅 비어 있고 아무것도 없으며 폐허가 됐다. 마음이 녹아내리고 무릎이 비틀거린다. 고통이 몸 전체에 퍼지고 그들의 얼굴이 모두 창백해졌다.

10 Soon the city is plundered, empty, and ruined. Hearts melt and knees shake. The people stand aghast, their faces pale and trembling.

 

11 사자 굴이 어디에 있느냐? 어린 사자들을 키웠던 곳이 어디에 있느냐? 수사자와 암사자와 젖먹이 사자들이 두려울 것 없이 다녔던 곳이 어디에 있느냐?

11 Where now is that great Nineveh, that den filled with young lions? It was a place where people - like lions and their cubs - walked freely and without fear.

 

12 사자가 자기 새끼를 위해 충분한 먹이를 찢고 암사자를 위해 먹이를 잡아다 주며 자기 굴을 먹이로 채우고 그 죽인 것으로 가득 채워 놓았던 사자 굴이 어디 있느냐?

12 The lion tore up meat for his cubs and strangled prey for his mate. He filled his den with prey, his caverns with his plunder.

 

13 "보아라. 내가 너를 치겠다." 만군의 여호와께서 하신 말씀이다. "내가 네 전차들을 불태워 연기가 되게 하고 칼이 네 새끼 사자들을 집어삼킬 것이다. 내가 이 땅에 네 먹이를 남겨 놓지 않겠다. 네가 보낸 사람의 목소리가 더 이상 들리지 않을 것이다."

13 "I am your enemy!" says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. "Your chariots will soon go up in smoke. Your young men will be killed in battle. Never again will you plunder conquered nations. The voices of your proud messengers will be heard no more."

 

 

3.

1 <니느웨에 화가 있도다> 피의 성읍에 화가 있을 것이다! 거짓말과 약탈이 수없이 자행되고 노략질이 결코 사라지지 않는 성!

1 What sorrow awaits Nineveh, the city of murder and lies! She is crammed with wealth and is never without victims.

 

2 채찍 소리, 바퀴 흔들리는 소리, 달리는 말, 거침없이 달려오는 전차!

2 Hear the crack of whips, the rumble of wheels! Horses' hooves pound, and chariots clatter wildly.

 

3 돌격하는 기마병, 번쩍이는 칼과 번개같이 빛이 나는 창, 죽은 사람들과 시체 더미, 수없이 많은 시체들! 그리고 사람들은 시체에 걸려 넘어진다.

3 See the flashing swords and glittering spears as the charioteers charge past! There are countless casualties, heaps of bodies - so many bodies that people stumble over them.

 

4 이 모든 것은 네가 수없이 음탕한 창녀 짓을 하고 마술을 써서 사람을 홀린 탓이다. 여러 백성들을 음탕한 행위로 팔아넘기고 유혹으로 족속들을 팔아넘겼기 때문이다.

4 All this because Nineveh, the beautiful and faithless city, mistress of deadly charms, enticed the nations with her beauty. She taught them all her magic, enchanting people everywhere.

 

5 "보아라. 내가 너를 치겠다." 만군의 여호와께서 하신 말씀이다. "내가 네 치마를 네 얼굴 위로 걷어 올려서 여러 백성들에게 벌거벗은 너를 보이고 여러 왕국들에게 네 수치를 보일 것이다.

5 "I am your enemy!" says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. "And now I will lift your skirts and show all the earth your nakedness and shame.

 

6 내가 더러운 것을 네게 던지고 너를 웃음거리로 만들 것이며 너를 구경거리로 만들 것이다.

6 I will cover you with filth and show the world how vile you really are.

 

7 너를 보는 모든 사람이 너를 피하며 말하기를 '니느웨가 폐허가 됐다. 누가 이를 슬퍼하겠는가?'라고 하니 너를 위로해 줄 사람을 내가 어디에서 찾겠느냐?"

7 All who see you will shrink back and say, 'Nineveh lies in ruins. Where are the mourners?' Does anyone regret your destruction?"

 

8 나일 강 가에 위치하고 강물에 둘러싸여 있으며 큰 물이 그 요새가 되고 큰 물이 그 성벽이 된 노아몬보다 네가 더 나은 것이 무엇이냐?

8 Are you any better than the city of Thebes, situated on the Nile River, surrounded by water? She was protected by the river on all sides, walled in by water.

 

9 에티오피아와 이집트는 네 강력한 힘이었고 붓과 리비아는 네 동맹국이었다.

9 Ethiopia and the land of Egypt gave unlimited assistance. The nations of Put and Libya were among her allies.

 

10 그러나 그도 포로가 돼 사로잡혀 가고 말았다. 아이들도 길거리 구석마다 내동댕이쳐졌다. 귀족들도 제비뽑기에 의해 잡혀가고 모든 지도자들도 사슬에 묶였다.

10 Yet Thebes fell, and her people were led away as captives. Her babies were dashed to death against the stones of the streets. Soldiers threw dice to get Egyptian officers as servants. All their leaders were bound in chains.

 

11 너 또한 술에 취해 비틀거리고 숨을 곳을 찾아야 할 것이다. 원수를 피해 숨을 곳을 찾아야 할 것이다.

11 And you, Nineveh, will also stagger like a drunkard. You will hide for fear of the attacking enemy.

 

12 네 모든 요새들은 첫 열매가 익은 무화과와 같아서 흔들기만 하면 먹을 사람의 입으로 떨어질 것이다.

12 All your fortresses will fall. They will be devoured like the ripe figs that fall into the mouths of those who shake the trees.

 

13 보아라. 네 한가운데 있는 군대는 여자들뿐이다! 네 땅의 성문들은 네 원수들에게 활짝 열리고 불이 그 빗장들을 태워 버린다.

13 Your troops will be as weak and helpless as women. The gates of your land will be opened wide to the enemy and set on fire and burned.

 

14 포위에 대비해서 물을 길어 두고 네 요새를 강화시켜라! 진흙탕에 가서 진흙을 뭉쳐서 벽돌을 만들어라!

14 Get ready for the siege! Store up water! Strengthen the defenses! Go into the pits to trample clay, and pack it into molds, making bricks to repair the walls.

 

15 그곳에서 불이 너를 삼킬 것이고 칼이 너를 벨 것이다. 느치 떼처럼 너를 소멸할 것이다. 메뚜기 떼처럼 네 수를 증가시켜 보아라! 느치 떼처럼 네 수를 증가시켜 보아라!

15 But the fire will devour you; the sword will cut you down. The enemy will consume you like locusts, devouring everything they see. There will be no escape, even if you multiply like swarming locusts.

 

16 네가 네 상인들의 수를 늘려 하늘의 별들보다 많게 했으나 느치 떼처럼 허물을 벗고 나서 날아갈 것이다.

16 Your merchants have multiplied until they outnumber the stars. But like a swarm of locusts, they strip the land and fly away.

 

17 네 파수꾼들이 메뚜기 떼같이 많고 네 관료들이 메뚜기 떼처럼 많아도 추운 날 벽에 붙어 있다가 해가 뜨면 날아가는 느치 떼처럼 그들도 아무도 모르는 어디론가 떠나갈 것이다.

17 Your guards and officials are also like swarming locusts that crowd together in the hedges on a cold day. But like locusts that fly away when the sun comes up, all of them will fly away and disappear.

 

18 앗시리아 왕이여, 네 목자들은 졸고 있고 네 관리들은 누워 있다. 네 백성들은 산으로 흩어졌는데 모을 사람이 아무도 없다.

18 Your shepherds are asleep, O Assyrian king; your princes lie dead in the dust. Your people are scattered across the mountains with no one to gather them together.

 

19 네 상처를 고칠 수 없고 네 부상은 심각하다. 너에 관한 소식을 들은 사람마다 너를 보고 손뼉을 치는구나. 끊임없는 너의 악행을 당해 보지 않았던 사람이 있겠느냐?

19 There is no healing for your wound; your injury is fatal. All who hear of your destruction will clap their hands for joy. Where can anyone be found who has not suffered from your continual cruelty?

 

하바국

1 예언자 하박국이 받은 묵시의 말씀입니다.

1 This is the message that the prophet Habakkuk received in a vision.

 

2 <하박국의 호소> 오 여호와여, 제가 언제까지 부르짖어야 합니까? 주께서 듣지 않으시고, "폭력입니다"라고 제가 주께 외쳐도 주께서는 구해 주지 않으십니다.

2 How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! "Violence is everywhere!" I cry, but you do not come to save.

 

3 왜 저로 하여금 불의를 보게 하십니까? 왜 죄악을 쳐다보게 하십니까? 파괴와 폭력이 제 앞에 있습니다. 갈등이 있고 싸움이 일어납니다.

3 Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.

 

4 그러므로 율법을 지키지 않고 정의가 아주 실행되지 못합니다. 악인이 의인을 에워싸 버려서 정의가 왜곡되고 있습니다.

4 The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.

 

5 <여호와의 응답> "다른 나라들을 보고 잘 살펴보아라. 놀라고 질겁할 것이다. 네가 살아 있는 동안에 내가 어떤 일을 행할 것인데 네게 말해 주어도 너는 믿지 못할 것이다.

5 The Lord replied, "Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn't believe

even if someone told you about it.

 

6 보아라. 이제 바벨론 사람들을 내가 일으킬 것이다. 그들은 사납고 과격한 사람들이다. 남의 생활 터전을 빼앗으려고 온 땅을 돌아다닐 것이다.

6 I am raising up the Babylonians, a cruel and violent people. They will march across the world and conquer other lands.

 

7 그들은 두렵고 무서운 사람들이다. 그들에게 정의와 권위는 그들 마음대로다.

7 They are notorious for their cruelty and do whatever they like.

 

8 그들의 말들은 표범보다 빠르고 저녁의 늑대들보다 사납다. 그들의 기마병들은 무척이나 빨라서 멀리서부터 달려온다. 그들은 마치 독수리가 먹이를 잡아채듯 빠르게 날아온다.

8 Their horses are swifter than cheetahs and fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their charioteers charge from far away. Like eagles, they swoop down to devour their prey.

 

9 그들 무리는 동쪽 바람처럼 모두가 폭력을 휘두르려고 와서 포로들을 모래알처럼 모은다.

9 "On they come, all bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind, sweeping captives ahead of them like sand.

 

10 그들이 왕들을 비웃고 관리들을 조롱할 것이다. 그들이 모든 요새를 비웃고 흙 언덕을 쌓아서 그곳을 침략한다.

10 They scoff at kings and princes and scorn all their fortresses. They simply pile ramps of earth against their walls and capture them!

 

11 그러나 자기 힘이 신이라고 여기는 죄인들, 그들도 바람처럼 사라져 없어질 것이다."

11 They sweep past like the wind and are gone. But they are deeply guilty, for their own strength is their god."

 

12 <하박국의 두 번째 호소> 오 여호와여, 주께서는 영원 전부터 계시지 않습니까? 내 하나님, 거룩하신 주여, 우리는 죽지 않을 것입니다. 오 여호와여, 주께서는 심판을 위해 그들을 세우셨습니다. 오 반석이시여, 주께서는 그들을 세워 벌하셨습니다.

12 O Lord my God, my Holy One, you who are eternal - surely you do not plan to wipe us out? O Lord, our Rock, you have sent these Babylonians to correct us, to punish us for our many sins.

 

13 주의 눈은 정결해서 죄악을 보시지 못하시고 죄악을 그냥 바라보시지 못하십니다. 그런데 악한 사람이 자기보다 의로운 사람들을 파괴시키고 있는데 왜 반역자들을 조용히 바라보고만 계십니까?

13 But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil. Will you wink at their treachery? Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they?

 

14 주께서는 사람을 바다의 물고기처럼 만드셨고 다스리는 이가 없는 기어다니는 생물처럼 만드셨습니다.

14 Are we only fish to be caught and killed? Are we only sea creatures that have no leader?

 

15 그는 갈고리로 그들 모두를 낚아 올리고 그물로 끌어 올리며 어망 안에 모아 담고는 즐거워하고 기뻐합니다.

15 Must we be strung up on their hooks and caught in their nets while they rejoice and celebrate?

 

16 그리고 자기 그물에다 제물을 바치고 자기 어망에다 분향을 합니다. 잡아들인 것이 많고 그들의 음식이 풍성하게 됐기 때문입니다.

16 Then they will worship their nets and burn incense in front of them. "These nets are the gods who have made us rich!" they will claim.

 

17 이렇게 그들이 그물을 비우고 계속 무자비하게 민족들을 죽여도 됩니까?

17 Will you let them get away with this forever? Will they succeed forever in their heartless conquests?

 

 

2.

1 내가 초소에 서서 망대에 자리를 잡고 주께서 내게 무엇을 말씀하실지, 내 호소에 주께서 뭐라고 응답하실지 지켜보겠습니다.

1 I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint.

 

2 <여호와의 응답> 그러자 여호와께서 내게 대답하셨다. "이 묵시를 기록하여라. 판에 똑똑히 새겨서 달리는 사람도 읽을 수 있게 하여라.

2 Then the Lord said to me, "Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.

 

3 왜냐하면 이 묵시는 정해진 때가 돼야 이뤄지고 마지막 때를 말하고 있으며 반드시 이뤄진다. 비록 늦어진다 해도 너는 기다려라. 반드시 올 것이며 지체되지 않을 것이다.

3 This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

 

4 보아라. 마음이 교만한 사람은 의롭지 않다. 그러나 의인은 그의 믿음으로 살 것이다.

4 "Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.

 

5 포도주는 사람을 속인다. 거만한 사람은 가만히 있지 못한다. 무덤처럼 목구멍을 넓게 열고 있는 그는 마치 죽음과 같아서 결코 만족함을 모른다. 그는 모든 나라들을 자기에게로 모으고 모든 백성들을 자기 것으로 만들지만

5 Wealth is treacherous, and the arrogant are never at rest. They open their mouths as wide as the grave, and like death, they are never satisfied. In their greed they have gathered up many nations and swallowed many peoples.

 

6 이들 모두가 그를 속담거리로 삼고 그에 대해 풍자와 비유를 말하지 않겠느냐? '화 있을 것이다. 자기 소유가 아닌 것으로 부유하게 된 사람아! 이런 일이 얼마나 더 계속되겠는가?'

6 "But soon their captives will taunt them. They will mock them, saying, 'What sorrow awaits you thieves! Now you will get what you deserve! You've become rich by extortion, but how much longer can this go on?'

 

7 갑자기 네 빚쟁이들이 일어나고 너를 공포로 떨게 할 사람들이 깨어 일어나지 않겠느냐? 그러면 네가 그들의 약탈물이 될 것이다.

7 Suddenly, your debtors will take action. They will turn on you and take all you have, while you stand trembling and helpless.

 

8 네가 많은 나라들을 약탈했기 때문에 그 나라들 가운데 살아남은 백성 모두가 너를 약탈할 것이다. 네가 사람의 피를 흘리게 하고 땅과 도시와 그 안에 사는 모든 주민들에게 폭력을 행했기 때문이다.

8 Because you have plundered many nations; now all the survivors will plunder you. You committed murder throughout the countryside and filled the towns with violence.

 

9 화 있을 것이다. 부당하게 취한 것으로 자기 집을 축재하는 사람아! 높은 곳에 자기 둥지를 틀어 재난으로부터 모면하려고 하는구나.

9 "What sorrow awaits you who build big houses with money gained dishonestly! You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your family's nest beyond the reach of danger.

 

10 네가 여러 나라들을 멸망시키려고 계획한 것이 네 집안에 수치를 불렀고 네 영혼에 죄가 됐다.

10 But by the murders you committed, you have shamed your name and forfeited your lives.

 

11 성벽의 돌이 울부짖을 것이고 나무 기둥이 맞장구칠 것이다.

11 The very stones in the walls cry out against you, and the beams in the ceilings echo the complaint.

 

12 화 있을 것이다. 피로 성을 짓고 죄악으로 도시를 세우는 사람아!

12 "What sorrow awaits you who build cities with money gained through murder and corruption!

 

13 보아라. 수고한 것이 불에 타 버리고 힘들게 한 일이 헛수고가 될 것인데 이것이 만군의 여호와께서 하신 일이 아니냐?

13 Has not the Lord of Heaven's Armies promised that the wealth of nations will turn to ashes? They work so hard, but all in vain!

 

14 마치 물이 바다를 덮는 것같이 여호와의 영광을 아는 지식이 세상에 가득 찰 것이다.

14 For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the Lord.

 

15 화 있을 것이다. 자기 이웃에게 술을 통째로 마시게 해 술에 취해서 그들의 벌거벗은 몸을 드러내 보이도록 하는 사람아!

15 "What sorrow awaits you who make your neighbors drunk! You force your cup on them so you can gloat over their shameful nakedness.

 

16 네가 영광 대신에 수치로 가득 차게 될 것이다. 너 또한 마시고 몸을 드러내어라! 여호와께서 오른손에 들고 계신 잔을 네게 돌리실 것이며 수치스러움이 네 영광을 가릴 것이다.

16 But soon it will be your turn to be disgraced. Come, drink and be exposed! Drink from the cup of the Lord's judgment, and all your glory will be turned to shame.

 

17 레바논에게 행한 폭력이 너를 압도하고 동물들에게 행한 폐해가 너를 공포에 떨게 할 것이다. 네가 사람의 피를 흘리게 하고 땅과 도시와 그 안에 사는 모든 주민들에게 폭력을 행했기 때문이다.

17 You cut down the forests of Lebanon. Now you will be cut down. You destroyed the wild animals, so now their terror will be yours. You

committed murder throughout the countryside and filled the towns with violence.

 

18 우상이 무슨 유익이 되겠느냐? 사람이 그것을 조각해 만들었을 뿐이다. 녹여 만든 신상도 거짓말을 가르치는 스승일 뿐이다. 왜냐하면 만든 사람이 말하지 못하는 우상들을 만들고 자기가 만든 것을 믿기 때문이다.

18 "What good is an idol carved by man, or a cast image that deceives you? How foolish to trust in your own creation - a god that can't even talk!

 

19 화 있을 것이다. 나무에 대고 '깨어나라!'고 하고 말 못하는 돌에게 '일어나라!'고 하는 사람아! 그것이 가르칠 수 있겠느냐? 보아라. 그것은 금과 은으로 덮여 있을 뿐 그 안에는 생기란 전혀 없다.

19 What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols, 'Wake up and save us!' To speechless stone images you say, 'Rise up and teach us!' Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.

 

20 그러나 여호와는 거룩한 성전에 있다. 온 땅은 그분 앞에서 잠잠하라."

20 But the Lord is in his holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him."

 

 

3.

1 <하박국의 기도> 이것은 시기오놋 형식에 맞춘 예언자 하박국의 기도입니다.

1 This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk.

 

2 오 여호와여, 나는 주의 명성을 듣고 두려웠습니다. 오 여호와여, 주께서 하신 일을 이 시대에 다시 새롭게 하셔서 이 시대에 알려지게 하소서. 진노 가운데서도 자비를 기억하소서.

2 I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy.

 

3 하나님께서는 데만에서 오셨으며 거룩하신 분은 바란 산에서 오셨습니다. (셀라) 그분의 영광이 하늘을 덮고 땅에는 그분께 대한 찬송이 가득합니다.

3 I see God moving across the deserts from Edom, the Holy One coming from Mount Paran. His brilliant splendor fills the heavens, and the earth

is filled with his praise.

 

4 그분의 광채가 햇빛과 같았고 두 줄기의 빛줄기가 그분의 손에서 번쩍이니 그 안에 그분의 권능이 숨겨져 있었습니다.

4 His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise. Rays of light flash from his hands, where his awesome power is hidden.

 

5 재앙이 그분 앞서서 나아갔고 전염병이 그분의 뒤를 따라 나아갑니다.

5 Pestilence marches before him; plague follows close behind.

 

6 그분께서 멈춰 땅을 측량하시며 그분께서 바라보니 나라들이 떱니다. 영원히 변치 않는 산들이 무너지고 오랜 세월을 거친 언덕들이 무너져 버립니다. 그분께서 하시는 일들만이 영원합니다.

6 When he stops, the earth shakes. When he looks, the nations tremble. He shatters the everlasting mountains and levels the eternal hills. He is the Eternal One!

 

7 내가 곤경에 처한 구산의 천막들을 보았고 미디안 땅의 휘장들이 떨고 있는 것을 보았습니다.

7 I see the people of Cushan in distress, and the nation of Midian trembling in terror.

 

8 주께서 주의 말들을 타시고 주의 승리의 전차를 타시니 오 여호와여, 주께서 시내들에게 화를 내셨습니까? 아니면 강들에게 진노하신 것입니까? 그것도 아니면 바다에 분노하신 것입니까?

8 Was it in anger, Lord, that you struck the rivers and parted the sea? Were you displeased with them? No, you were sending your chariots of salvation!

 

9 주께서 활을 꺼내서 많은 화살들을 시위에 놓고 당기셨습니다. (셀라) 주께서 강으로 땅을 쪼개셨습니다.

9 You brandished your bow and your quiver of arrows. You split open the earth with flowing rivers.

 

10 산들이 주를 보고 뒤틀리고 억수 같은 물이 휩쓸며 내려갑니다. 깊은 바다가 소리를 높이고 물줄기는 힘 있게 높이 치솟습니다.

10 The mountains watched and trembled. Onward swept the raging waters. The mighty deep cried out, lifting its hands to the Lord.

 

11 빛처럼 나는 주의 화살과 번쩍이는 주의 창 때문에 해와 달이 하늘에서 멈춰 버립니다.

11 The sun and moon stood still in the sky as your brilliant arrows flew and your glittering spear flashed.

 

12 주께서는 진노로 땅을 점령하셨고 분노로 민족들을 짓밟으셨습니다.

12 You marched across the land in anger and trampled the nations in your fury.

 

13 주께서는 주의 백성을 구원하시려고, 주의 기름 부음 받은 사람을 구원하시려고 나오셨습니다. 주께서 악한 사람의 집 우두머리를 쳐부수셨고 발에서부터 머리까지 발가벗기셨습니다. (셀라)

13 You went out to rescue your chosen people, to save your anointed ones. You crushed the heads of the wicked and stripped their bones from head to toe.

 

14 그들이 몰래 숨어 있는 비참한 우리를 삼키려고 입을 벌리고, 우리를 흩어 버리려고 폭풍처럼 밀려올 때 주께서 그들 용사의 우두머리를 주의 화살로 꿰뚫으셨습니다.

14 With his own weapons, you destroyed the chief of those who rushed out like a whirlwind, thinking Israel would be easy prey.

 

15 주께서는 말을 타시고 바다를 짓밟으시고 물을 크게 휘저으십니다.

15 You trampled the sea with your horses, and the mighty waters piled high.

 

16 그 소리를 듣고 내 뱃속이 뒤틀립니다. 그 소리에 내 입술이 떨립니다. 내 뼈가 썩어 들어가고 내 다리가 후들거립니다. 그러나 나는 우리를 침략하려고 오는 백성들에게 닥칠 재앙의 날을 조용히 기다릴 것입니다.

16 I trembled inside when I heard this; my lips quivered with fear. My legs gave way beneath me, and I shook in terror. I will wait quietly for the coming day when disaster will strike the people who invade us.

 

17 무화과나무가 싹이 트지 않고 포도나무에 열매가 없다고 해도, 올리브 나무에서 수확할 것이 없고 밭은 먹을 것을 생산하지 못해도, 우리 안에 양 떼가 없고 외양간에 소가 없다 해도,

17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty,

 

18 나는 여호와를 기뻐할 것이고 나의 구원이 되시는 하나님을 즐거워할 것입니다.

18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

 

19 주 여호와께서는 내 힘이십니다. 그분은 내 발을 사슴의 발처럼 만드시고 그분은 높은 곳에서 나로 하여금 뛰어다니게 하십니다. 이것은 지휘자에 의해 현악기에 맞춰 노래한 것입니다.

19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. (For the choir director： This prayer is to be accompanied by stringed instruments.)
