1 So Solomon finished all his work on the Temple of the LORD. Then he brought all the gifts his father, David, had dedicated - the silver, the gold, and the various articles - and he stored them in the treasuries of the Temple of God.

2 <언약궤를 성전으로 옮기다 (왕상 8:1-9)> 그러고 나서 솔로몬은 이스라엘 장로들과 각 지파의 우두머리들, 곧 이스라엘 집안의 우두머리들을 예루살렘에 불러 모았습니다. 다윗의 성 시온에서부터 여호와의 언약궤를 메어 옮겨 오려는 것이었습니다.

2 Solomon then summoned to Jerusalem the elders of Israel and all the heads of tribes - the leaders of the ancestral families of Israel. They were to bring the Ark of the LORD's Covenant to the Temple from its location in the City of David, also known as Zion.

3 일곱째 달 명절에 모든 이스라엘 사람들이 왕에게 모였습니다.

3 So all the men of Israel assembled before the king at the annual Festival of Shelters, which is held in early autumn.

4 모든 이스라엘 장로들이 도착하자 레위 사람들이 언약궤를 멨습니다.

4 When all the elders of Israel arrived, the Levites picked up the Ark.

5 레위 사람인 제사장들이 언약궤를 메고 올라가고 회막과 그 안에 있는 모든 거룩한 물건들을 옮겼습니다.

5 The priests and Levites brought up the Ark along with the special tent and all the sacred items that had been in it.

6 솔로몬 왕과 그 곁에 모인 온 이스라엘 회중은 언약궤 앞에서 양과 소로 제사를 드렸는데 그 수가 많아 셀 수도 없고 기록할 수도 없었습니다.

6 There, before the Ark, King Solomon and the entire community of Israel sacrificed so many sheep, goats, and cattle that no one could keep count!

7 제사장들이 여호와의 언약궤를 모셔다가 제자리, 곧 성전 안쪽 지성소로 옮겨 그룹들의 날개 아래 두었습니다.

7 Then the priests carried the Ark of the LORD's Covenant into the inner sanctuary of the Temple - the Most Holy Place - and placed it beneath the wings of the cherubim.

8 그룹들은 언약궤가 놓인 곳 위에 날개를 펼쳐 언약궤와 그것을 메는 막대들을 덮고 있었습니다.

8 The cherubim spread their wings over the Ark, forming a canopy over the Ark and its carrying poles.

9 이 막대들은 아주 길어서 그 끝이 안쪽 방 앞쪽에서 보였습니다. 그러나 성소 밖에서는 보이지 않았습니다. 그것은 지금까지도 여전히 거기에 있습니다.

9 These poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the Temple's main room - the Holy Place - but not from the outside. They are still there to this day.

10 Nothing was in the Ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Mount Sinai, where the LORD made a covenant with the people of Israel when they left Egypt.

11 이때 제사장들은 성소에서 나왔습니다. 그곳에 있던 제사장들은 순서와 상관없이 모두 자기 몸을 깨끗하게 하고 섬길 준비를 했습니다.

11 Then the priests left the Holy Place. All the priests who were present had purified themselves, whether or not they were on duty that day.

12 음악을 담당한 모든 레위 사람들, 곧 아삽, 헤만, 여두둔과 그의 아들들과 형제들은 제단 동쪽에 서서 고운 베 옷을 입고 심벌즈와 비파와 하프를 연주했습니다. 또 그들을 따라 120명의 제사장들이 나팔을 불었습니다.

12 And the Levites who were musicians - Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and all their sons and brothers - were dressed in fine linen robes and stood at the east side of the altar playing cymbals, lyres, and harps. They were joined by 120 priests who were playing trumpets.

13 나팔 부는 사람들과 노래하는 사람들이 한 소리로 한꺼번에 소리를 내 여호와께 찬양과 감사를 드렸습니다. 나팔과 심벌즈와 다른 악기들의 연주에 맞춰 그들은 여호와께 감사하며 찬양하고 목소리를 높여 노래했습니다. "그분은 선하시다. 그분의 사랑은 영원하다." 그러자 여호와의 성전이 구름으로 뒤덮였습니다.

13 The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise and give thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they raised their voices and praised the LORD with these words： "He is good! His faithful love endures forever!" At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the LORD.

14 제사장들은 그 구름으로 인해 서서 계속 연주할 수 없었습니다. 여호와의 영광이 하나님의 성전에 가득했기 때문입니다.

14 The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the LORD filled the Temple of God.

6.

1 그때 솔로몬이 말했습니다. "여호와께서는 캄캄한 구름 속에 계시겠다고 말씀하셨으나

1 Then Solomon prayed, "O LORD, you have said that you would live in a thick cloud of darkness.

2 제가 주를 위해 아름다운 성전을 지었습니다. 주께서 영원히 계실 곳입니다."

2 Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever!"

3 이스라엘 온 회중이 그곳에 서 있는 동안 왕은 얼굴을 돌이켜 그들을 축복했습니다.

3 Then the king turned around to the entire community of Israel standing before him and gave this blessing.

4 왕이 말했습니다. "이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬양하자. 그분이 그 입으로 내 아버지 다윗에게 약속하신 것을 이제 이루셨다. 그분이 말씀하셨다.

4 "Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who has kept the promise he made to my father, David. For he told my father,

5 '내가 내 백성들을 이집트에서 이끌어 낸 그날부터 이스라엘의 어느 지파나 어느 성을 선택해 내 이름을 둘 성전을 짓게 하지 않았다. 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 지도자로 어떤 다른 사람을 선택하지도 않았다.

5 'From the day I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I have never chosen a city among any of the tribes of Israel as the place where a Temple should be built to honor my name. Nor have I chosen a king to lead my people Israel.

6 그러나 이제 내가 내 이름을 둘 곳으로 예루살렘을 선택했고 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 사람으로 다윗을 선택했다'라고 하셨다.

6 But now I have chosen Jerusalem as the place for my name to be honored, and I have chosen David to be king over my people Israel.'"

7 내 아버지 다윗은 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위해 성전을 지을 마음이 있으셨다.

7 Then Solomon said, "My father, David, wanted to build this Temple to honor the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

8 그러나 여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하시기를 '네 마음에 내 이름을 위해 성전을 짓겠다는 마음이 있으니 네 마음이 갸륵하다.

8 But the LORD told him, 'You wanted to build the Temple to honor my name. Your intention is good,

9 그러나 너는 성전을 지을 사람이 아니다. 오직 네 몸에서 낳을 네 아들이 내 이름을 위해 성전을 지을 것이다'라고 하셨다.

9 but you are not the one to do it. One of your own sons will build the Temple to honor me.'

10 이제 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 이루셨다. 나는 내 아버지 다윗의 뒤를 이어 이스라엘의 왕좌에 앉아 있다. 그리고 내가 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위해 성전을 지었다.

10 "And now the LORD has fulfilled the promise he made, for I have become king in my father's place, and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised. I have built this Temple to honor the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

11 내가 바로 그곳에 이스라엘 백성들과 맺은 여호와의 언약을 넣은 언약궤를 두었다."

11 There I have placed the Ark, which contains the covenant that the LORD made with the people of Israel."

12 <솔로몬의 봉헌 기도 (왕상 8:22-53)> 그러고 나서 솔로몬은 여호와의 제단 앞에서 온 이스라엘 회중과 마주서서 그의 손을 폈습니다.

12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the entire community of Israel, and he lifted his hands in prayer.

13 솔로몬은 이미 청동으로 단을 만들었는데 길이가 5규빗, 너비가 5규빗, 높이가 3규빗이었고 바깥뜰 가운데 두었습니다. 그가 그 단에 서서 온 이스라엘 회중 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 하늘을 향해 손을 폈습니다.

13 Now Solomon had made a bronze platform 7 1/2 feet long, 7 1/2 feet wide, and 4 1/2 feet high and had placed it at the center of the Temple's outer courtyard. He stood on the platform, and then he knelt in front of the entire community of Israel and lifted his hands toward heaven.

14 그가 말했습니다. "이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여, 하늘과 땅에 주와 같은 하나님은 없습니다. 주께서는 온 마음으로 주의 길을 가는 주의 종들에게 약속을 지키시며 사랑을 베푸시는 분이십니다.

14 He prayed, "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven and earth. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion.

15 주께서는 주의 종 제 아버지 다윗에게 하신 약속을 지키셨습니다. 주의 입으로 약속하신 것을 오늘과 같이 주의 손으로 이루신 것입니다.

15 You have kept your promise to your servant David, my father. You made that promise with your own mouth, and with your own hands you have fulfilled it today.

16 이제 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여, 주의 종인 제 아버지 다윗에게 하신 그 약속, 곧 '네 아들들이 네가 내 앞에서 행한 대로 모든 일에 내 법을 따라 산다면 이스라엘의 왕좌에 앉을 사람이 내 앞에서 끊어지지 않으리라'고 하신 그 약속의 말씀을 지켜 주십시오.

16 "And now, O LORD, God of Israel, carry out the additional promise you made to your servant David, my father. For you said to him, 'If your descendants guard their behavior and faithfully follow my Law as you have done, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.'

17 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여, 이제 주의 종 다윗에게 하신 약속의 말씀을 이루어 주시기를 원합니다.

17 Now, O LORD, God of Israel, fulfill this promise to your servant David.

18 그러나 하나님께서 정말 땅에서 사람과 함께 계실 수 있겠습니까? 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘도 주를 다 모실 수 없는데 하물며 제가 지은 이 성전이겠습니까?

18 "But will God really live on earth among people? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built!

19 그러나 내 하나님 여호와여, 주의 종의 기도와 자비를 구하는 소리에 귀 기울여 주십시오. 종이 주 앞에서 부르짖으며 드리는 이 기도를 들어 주십시오.

19 Nevertheless, listen to my prayer and my plea, O LORD my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is making to you.

20 주께서 주의 이름을 두시겠다던 이곳 성전을 향해 주의 눈을 밤낮 여시어 종이 이곳을 향해 드리는 기도를 들어 주십시오.

20 May you watch over this Temple day and night, this place where you have said you would put your name. May you always hear the prayers I make toward this place.

21 종과 주의 백성 이스라엘이 이곳을 향해 기도할 때 그 기도를 들어 주십시오. 주께서 계신 곳, 곧 하늘에서 들어 주시고 들으실 때 용서해 주십시오.

21 May you hear the humble and earnest requests from me and your people Israel when we pray toward this place. Yes, hear us from heaven where you live, and when you hear, forgive.

22 사람이 자기 이웃에게 잘못을 저질러 맹세를 해야 할 때 그가 와서 이곳 주의 제단 앞에서 맹세를 하면

22 "If someone wrongs another person and is required to take an oath of innocence in front of your altar at this Temple,

23 하늘에서 들어 주시고 행해 주십시오. 주의 종들 사이에 심판하셔서 죄 있는 사람에게는 그 악을 저지른 만큼 벌을 머리에 내림으로써 갚아 주십시오. 죄 없는 사람에게는 죄 없다고 선포해 그 정직함이 서게 해 주십시오.

23 then hear from heaven and judge between your servants - the accuser and the accused. Pay back the guilty as they deserve. Acquit the innocent because of their innocence.

24 주의 백성 이스라엘이 주께 죄를 지어 적들에게 패배를 당해도 다시 돌아와 주의 이름을 부르며 이 성전에서 주께 기도하고 간절히 구하면

24 "If your people Israel are defeated by their enemies because they have sinned against you, and if they turn back and acknowledge your name and pray to you here in this Temple,

25 주께서는 하늘에서 들어 주시고 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 용서하시고 그들을 그들과 그 조상들에게 주신 그 땅으로 돌아오게 해 주십시오.

25 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and return them to this land you gave to them and to their ancestors.

26 주의 백성들이 주께 죄를 지어 하늘이 닫히고 비가 오지 않을 때 그들이 이곳을 향해 기도하며 주의 이름을 부르고 그들이 죄에서 돌이키면

26 "If the skies are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and if they pray toward this Temple and acknowledge your name and turn from their sins because you have punished them,

27 주께서는 하늘에서 들어 주시고 주의 종들과 주의 백성인 이스라엘의 죄를 용서해 주십시오. 그들에게 옳은 삶의 길을 가르쳐 주시고 주의 백성에게 기업으로 주신 땅에 비를 내려 주십시오.

27 then hear from heaven and forgive the sins of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them to follow the right path, and send rain on your land that you have given to your people as their special possession.

28 이 땅에 가뭄과 전염병이 있을 때 곡식이 시들거나 깜부기병이 나거나 메뚜기와 병충해가 생기거나 적들이 그들의 성을 에워싸거나 온갖 재난이나 질병이 올 때

28 "If there is a famine in the land or a plague or crop disease or attacks of locusts or caterpillars, or if your people's enemies are in the land besieging their towns - whatever disaster or disease there is -

29 주의 백성 이스라엘 가운데 누구라도 각각 자신의 재난과 고통을 깨닫고 이 성전을 향해 자기 손을 펼치며 무엇을 위해서든지 기도나 간구를 드릴 때

29 and if your people Israel pray about their troubles or sorrow, raising their hands toward this Temple,

30 주께서는 주의 계신 곳 하늘에서 들어 주시고 용서를 베풀어 주십시오. 주께서는 각 사람의 마음을 아시므로 각 사람에게 그 행위대로 갚아 주십시오. 주께서만 사람의 마음을 아시기 때문입니다.

30 then hear from heaven where you live, and forgive. Give your people what their actions deserve, for you alone know each human heart.

31 그리하여 주께서 그 조상들에게 주신 이 땅에서 살아가는 동안 그들이 주를 경외하며 언제나 주의 길로 가게 하십시오.

31 Then they will fear you and walk in your ways as long as they live in the land you gave to our ancestors.

32 주의 백성 이스라엘에 소속하지 않은 이방 사람이 주의 위대한 이름과 능력 있는 손과 쭉 뻗친 팔로 인해 먼 땅에서 와서 이 성전을 향해 기도하면

32 "In the future, foreigners who do not belong to your people Israel will hear of you. They will come from distant lands when they hear of your great name and your strong hand and your powerful arm. And when they pray toward this Temple,

33 주께서 계시는 곳, 하늘에서 들어 주셔서 이방 사람이 주께 구하는 것은 무엇이든 들어 주십시오. 그리하여 이 땅의 모든 민족들이 주의 백성 이스라엘처럼 주의 이름을 알고 두려워하게 하며 제가 지은 이 집이 주의 이름으로 불리는 줄을 알게 하십시오.

33 then hear from heaven where you live, and grant what they ask of you. In this way, all the people of the earth will come to know and fear you, just as your own people Israel do. They, too, will know that this Temple I have built honors your name.

34 주의 백성들이 주께서 보내시는 어느 곳이든 적들과 싸우러 나갈 때 그들이 주께서 선택하신 이 성과 제가 주의 이름을 위해 지은 이 성전을 향해 주께 기도하면

34 "If your people go out where you send them to fight their enemies, and if they pray to you by turning toward this city you have chosen and toward this Temple I have built to honor your name,

35 주께서는 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 그들의 간구를 들어 주시고 그 일을 돌아보아 주십시오.

35 then hear their prayers from heaven and uphold their cause.

36 죄를 짓지 않는 사람이 없으니 저희가 주께 죄를 지어 주께서 저희에게 진노하셔서 그 적들의 손에 넘겨 저희가 포로가 돼서 멀거나 가까운 땅으로 끌려간 후에

36 "If they sin against you - and who has never sinned? - you might become angry with them and let their enemies conquer them and take them captive to a foreign land far away or near.

37 만약 저희가 포로로 사로잡혀 있는 그곳에서 마음을 돌이켜 회개하고 그 포로로 지내는 땅에서 간구하며 '우리가 죄를 지었습니다. 우리가 잘못을 저질렀고 악한 일을 했습니다'라고 말하거나

37 But in that land of exile, they might turn to you in repentance and pray, 'We have sinned, done evil, and acted wickedly.'

38 또 만약 저희가 끌려가 포로로 잡혀 있던 그 땅에서 마음과 영을 다해 주께 돌아와 주께서 저희 조상들에게 주신 땅과 주께서 주신 성과 제가 주의 이름을 위해 지은 이 성전을 향해 기도하면

38 If they turn to you with their whole heart and soul in the land of their captivity and pray toward the land you gave to their ancestors - toward this city you have chosen, and toward this Temple I have built to honor your name -

39 주께서 계신 곳 하늘에서 저희의 기도와 저희의 간구를 들어 주시고 그 일을 돌아보아 주십시오. 주께 죄를 지은 주의 백성들을 용서해 주십시오.

39 then hear their prayers and their petitions from heaven where you live, and uphold their cause. Forgive your people who have sinned against you.

40 내 하나님이여, 주께서 눈을 여시고 이제 이곳에서 드린 기도에 귀 기울여 주십시오.

40 "O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to all the prayers made to you in this place.

41 여호와 하나님이여, 일어나 주께서 평안히 계실 곳, 주와 주의 능력의 궤와 함께 계실 곳으로 오십시오. 여호와 하나님이여, 주의 제사장들이 구원을 입게 하시고 주의 성도들이 주의 선하심을 기뻐하게 해 주십시오.

41 "And now arise, O LORD God, and enter your resting place, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power. May your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation; may your loyal servants rejoice in your goodness.

42 여호와 하나님이여, 주께서 기름 부은 사람을 버리지 마시고 주의 종 다윗에게 베푸신 사랑을 기억해 주십시오."

42 O LORD God, do not reject the king you have anointed.Remember your unfailing love for your servant David."

7.

1 <성전 봉헌식 (왕상 8:62-66)> 솔로몬이 기도를 마치자 하늘에서 불이 내려와 번제물과 희생제물을 태웠고 여호와의 영광이 성전에 가득 찼습니다.

1 When Solomon finished praying, fire flashed down from heaven and burned up the burnt offerings and sacrifices, and the glorious presence of the LORD filled the Temple.

2 여호와의 영광이 성전에 가득 찼으므로 제사장들이 감히 그곳에 들어갈 수 없었습니다.

2 The priests could not enter the Temple of the LORD because the glorious presence of the LORD filled it.

3 모든 이스라엘 백성들은 불이 내려온 것과 여호와의 영광이 성전에 있는 것을 보고 돌을 깐 땅에 엎드려 경배하며 여호와께 감사하고 찬양하며 말했습니다. "그분은 선하시다. 그분의 사랑은 영원하다."

3 When all the people of Israel saw the fire coming down and the glorious presence of the LORD filling the Temple, they fell face down on the ground and worshiped and praised the LORD, saying, "He is good! His faithful love endures forever!"

4 그러자 왕과 모든 백성들이 여호와 앞에 희생제물을 드렸습니다.

4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices to the LORD.

5 솔로몬 왕은 소 2만 2,000마리와 양 12만 마리를 희생제물로 드렸습니다. 이렇게 왕과 모든 백성들은 하나님의 성전을 드리는 예식을 했습니다.

5 King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep and goats. And so the king and all the people dedicated the Temple of God.

6 제사장들은 맡은 일에 따라 섬기고 여호와를 위해 악기를 연주할 레위 사람들도 그렇게 했습니다. 그 악기들은 다윗 왕이 레위 사람들로 하여금 여호와를 찬양하게 하기 위해 만든 것입니다. "그분의 사랑은 영원하다"라고 찬양하며 악기를 사용해 감사를 드렸습니다. 레위 사람들 맞은편에서 제사장들이 나팔을 불었고 모든 이스라엘 백성들이 서 있었습니다.

6 The priests took their assigned positions, and so did the Levites who were singing, "His faithful love endures forever!" They accompanied the singing with music from the instruments King David had made for praising the LORD. Across from the Levites, the priests blew the trumpets, while all Israel stood.

7 솔로몬은 여호와의 성전 앞뜰 가운데를 거룩하게 구별하고 거기에서 번제와 화목제의 기름을 드렸습니다. 솔로몬이 만든 청동 제단에 모든 번제물과 곡식제물과 기름을 다 놓을 수 없었기 때문입니다.

7 Solomon then consecrated the central area of the courtyard in front of the LORD's Temple. He offered burnt offerings and the fat of peace offerings there, because the bronze altar he had built could not hold all the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and sacrificial fat.

8 이렇게 솔로몬은 7일 동안 절기를 지켰는데 하맛 어귀에서부터 이집트 시내에 이르기까지 온 이스라엘 무리들이 모여 와서 매우 많은 사람들이 그와 함께했습니다.

8 For the next seven days Solomon and all Israel celebrated the Festival of Shelters. A large congregation had gathered from as far away as Lebo-hamath in the north and the Brook of Egypt in the south.

9 성전을 드리는 예식을 7일 동안 한 후 또 7일 동안 절기를 지키고 8일째 되는 날 그들은 함께 모였습니다.

9 On the eighth day they had a closing ceremony, for they had celebrated the dedication of the altar for seven days and the Festival of Shelters for seven days.

10 일곱 번째 달 23일에 그는 백성들을 집으로 돌려보냈습니다. 그들은 여호와께서 다윗과 솔로몬과 그 백성 이스라엘에게 베푸신 모든 은혜로 인해 마음이 즐겁고 기뻤습니다.

10 Then at the end of the celebration, Solomon sent the people home. They were all joyful and glad because the LORD had been so good to David and to Solomon and to his people Israel.

11 <여호와께서 솔로몬에게 나타나시다 (왕상 9:1-9)> 솔로몬이 여호와의 성전과 왕궁 건설을 다 마치고 여호와의 성전과 자신의 왕궁에 해야 할 모든 일을 계획한 대로 잘 이루었습니다.

11 So Solomon finished the Temple of the LORD, as well as the royal palace. He completed everything he had planned to do in the construction of the Temple and the palace.

12 여호와께서 밤에 솔로몬에게 나타나 말씀하셨습니다. "내가 네 기도를 들었고 이곳을 제사받기 위한 성전으로 삼았다.

12 Then one night the LORD appeared to Solomon and said, "I have heard your prayer and have chosen this Temple as the place for making sacrifices.

13 내가 하늘을 닫아 비가 오지 않거나 메뚜기 떼에 명령해 이 땅의 생산물을 갉아 먹게 하거나 내 백성들 가운데 전염병을 보낼 때

13 At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you.

14 내 이름으로 불리는 내 백성들이 악한 길에서 돌이켜 스스로 낮아져 기도하고 내 얼굴을 구하면 내가 하늘에서 듣고 그들의 죄를 용서하며 그 땅을 고칠 것이다.

14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

15 내 눈을 열고 이곳에서 드리는 기도에 내 귀를 기울일 것이다.

15 My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.

16 내가 이미 이곳을 선택해 거룩하게 하며 내 이름이 거기에 영원히 있으니 내 눈과 내 마음은 항상 그곳에 있을 것이다.

16 For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy - a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.

17 네가 만약 내 앞에서 네 아버지 다윗이 행한 것처럼 내가 명령한 모든 것을 행하고 내 규례와 법도를 지키면

17 "As for you, if you faithfully follow me as David your father did, obeying all my commands, decrees, and regulations,

18 내가 '네 후손 가운데 이스라엘을 다스릴 사람이 끊어지지 않게 하리라'고 네 아버지 다윗과 언약한 대로 네 나라의 왕위를 굳게 할 것이다.

18 then I will establish the throne of your dynasty. For I made this covenant with your father, David, when I said, 'One of your descendants will always rule over Israel.'

19 그러나 네가 내게 등을 돌려서 내가 네게 준 규례와 명령들을 버리고 나를 떠나 다른 우상들을 섬기고 경배하면

19 "But if you or your descendants abandon me and disobey the decrees and commands I have given you, and if you serve and worship other gods,

20 내가 너희에게 준 내 땅에서 이스라엘을 뽑아내고 내 이름을 위해 거룩하게 한 이 성전을 내 앞에서 버려 모든 민족들 사이에 속담거리와 웃음거리가 되게 하겠다.

20 then I will uproot the people from this land that I have given them. I will reject this Temple that I have made holy to honor my name. I will make it an object of mockery and ridicule among the nations.

21 이 성전이 지금은 귀하게 여김을 받지만 그때가 되면 지나가는 사람들마다 놀라서 '왜 여호와께서 이 땅과 이 성전을 이렇게 비참하게 만드셨는가?' 하면

21 And though this Temple is impressive now, all who pass by will be appalled. They will ask, 'Why did the LORD do such terrible things to this land and to this Temple?'

22 사람들은 '그들이 자기 조상들을 이집트에서 이끌어 내신 그 하나님 여호와를 저버리고 다른 우상들을 흔쾌히 받아들여 경배하고 섬겼기 때문에 여호와께서 이 모든 재앙을 그들에게 내리셨다'라고 대답할 것이다."

22 "And the answer will be, 'Because his people abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and they worshiped other gods instead and bowed down to them. That is why he has brought all these disasters on them.'"
