21.

1 <다윗이 인구를 조사하다 (삼하 24:1-17)> 사탄이 일어나 이스라엘을 치려고 다윗에게 이스라엘의 인구를 조사할 마음을 불어넣었습니다.

1 Satan rose up against Israel and caused David to take a census of the people of Israel.

2 다윗이 요압과 백성의 우두머리들에게 말했습니다. "너희는 가서 브엘세바에서부터 단까지 이스라엘 백성들의 수를 세고 돌아와 백성들이 얼마나 많은지 내게 보고하여라."

2 So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army, "Take a census of all the people of Israel - from Beersheba in the south to Dan in the north - and bring me a report so I may know how many there are."

3 요압이 대답했습니다. "여호와께서 왕의 백성을 100배나 늘려 주시기를 원합니다. 내 주 왕이여, 그 백성 모두가 내 주의 종이 아닙니까? 내 주께서 왜 이렇게 하기를 원하십니까? 왜 이스라엘이 죄를 지어 벌받게 하십니까?"

3 But Joab replied, "May the LORD increase the number of his people a hundred times over! But why, my lord the king, do you want to do this? Are they not all your servants? Why must you cause Israel to sin?"

4 그러나 왕이 요압을 재촉해 명령했습니다. 요압은 왕의 앞에서 물러나와 이스라엘 전역을 두루 다닌 뒤 예루살렘으로 돌아왔습니다.

4 But the king insisted that they take the census, so Joab traveled throughout all Israel to count the people. Then he returned to Jerusalem

5 요압이 다윗에게 백성들의 수를 보고했습니다. "이스라엘에서 칼을 다룰 줄 아는 용사들은 110만 명이고 유다에는 47만 명이 있었습니다."

5 and reported the number of people to David. There were 1,100,000 warriors in all Israel who could handle a sword, and 470,000 in Judah.

6 그러나 왕의 명령을 못마땅하게 여긴 요압은 레위와 베냐민을 숫자에 넣지 않았습니다.

6 But Joab did not include the tribes of Levi and Benjamin in the census because he was so distressed at what the king had made him do.

7 이 일은 하나님이 보시기에도 악한 일이었습니다. 그리하여 하나님께서 이스라엘에 벌을 내리셨습니다.

7 God was very displeased with the census, and he punished Israel for it.

8 다윗이 하나님께 말했습니다. "제가 이 일을 해서 큰 죄를 지었습니다. 이제 주의 종의 죄를 용서해 주십시오. 제가 너무나도 어리석은 짓을 저질렀습니다."

8 Then David said to God, "I have sinned greatly by taking this census. Please forgive my guilt for doing this foolish thing."

9 여호와께서 다윗의 선견자 갓에게 말씀하셨습니다.

9 Then the LORD spoke to Gad, David's seer. This was the message.

10 "가서 다윗에게 말하여라. '여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 내가 세 가지 벌을 보일 것이다. 그 가운데 하나를 네가 선택하여라. 네가 고른 대로 내가 벌을 내리겠다.'"

10 "Go and say to David, 'This is what the LORD says： I will give you three choices. Choose one of these punishments, and I will inflict it on you.'"

11 그러자 갓이 다윗에게 나아가서 말했습니다. "여호와께서 왕이 받을 벌을 고르라고 말씀하십니다.

11 So Gad came to David and said, "These are the choices the LORD has given you.

12 '3년 동안 굶주리든가, 3개월 동안 적들에게 쫓겨 다니든가, 3일 동안 이스라엘 사방 땅에 재난, 곧 전염병을 돌게 해 이스라엘을 고통스럽게 하는 여호와의 칼을 택할 것인가 네가 선택해 말하여라.' 이제 저를 보내신 분께 대답할 수 있도록 결정을 내리십시오."

12 You may choose three years of famine, three months of destruction by the sword of your enemies, or three days of severe plague as the angel of the LORD brings devastation throughout the land of Israel. Decide what answer I should give the LORD who sent me."

13 다윗이 갓에게 말했습니다. "나는 너무나 고통스럽다. 그분의 긍휼하심이 아주 크시기 때문에 나는 여호와의 손에 쓰러지는 것을 선택하겠다. 나는 사람의 손에 쓰러지는 것을 선택하지 않을 것이다."

13 "I'm in a desperate situation!" David replied to Gad. "But let me fall into the hands of the LORD, for his mercy is very great. Do not let me fall into human hands."

14 그래서 여호와께서 이스라엘에 재앙을 내리셨습니다. 여호와께서 전염병을 보내 이스라엘 백성 7만 명이 죽었습니다.

14 So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel, and 70,000 people died as a result.

15 하나님께서 예루살렘을 멸망시키기 위해 천사를 보내셨습니다. 그러나 천사가 멸망시키려 하자 여호와께서 그 비참한 광경을 보고 그 재난을 슬퍼하시며 돌이켜 멸망시키고 있는 천사에게 말씀하셨습니다. "이제 됐다! 네 손을 거두어라." 그때 여호와의 천사는 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작마당 곁에 서 있었습니다.

15 And God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem. But just as the angel was preparing to destroy it, the LORD relented and said to the death angel, "Stop! That is enough!" At that moment the angel of the LORD was standing by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

16 다윗이 고개를 들어 바라보니 여호와의 천사가 하늘과 땅 사이에 서 있었습니다. 그 손에 칼을 들고 예루살렘을 가리키고 있었습니다. 다윗과 장로들은 굵은베 옷을 입고 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸습니다.

16 David looked up and saw the angel of the LORD standing between heaven and earth with his sword drawn, reaching out over Jerusalem. So David and the leaders of Israel put on burlap to show their deep distress and fell face down on the ground.

17 다윗이 하나님께 말했습니다. "백성들의 수를 세라고 명령한 사람은 제가 아닙니까! 죄를 짓고 잘못을 저지른 사람은 저입니다. 이들은 그저 양 무리일 뿐입니다. 이들이 무슨 일을 했습니까? 여호와 내 하나님이여, 저와 제 집안을 치시고 주의 백성들에게 재난을 내리지 말아 주십시오."

17 And David said to God, "I am the one who called for the census! I am the one who has sinned and done wrong! But these people are as innocent as sheep - what have they done? O LORD my God, let your anger fall against me and my family, but do not destroy your people."

18 <다윗이 제단을 쌓다 (삼하 24:18-25)> 그러자 여호와의 천사가 갓에게 명령해 다윗더러 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작마당으로 올라가서 여호와를 위해 제단을 쌓으라고 말했습니다.

18 Then the angel of the LORD told Gad to instruct David to go up and build an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

19 다윗은 갓이 여호와의 이름으로 이른 그 말씀에 순종해 올라갔습니다.

19 So David went up to do what the LORD had commanded him through Gad.

20 오르난이 밀을 타작하다가 뒤를 돌아보니 천사가 있었습니다. 오르난은 그와 함께 있던 네 아들과 함께 몸을 숨겼습니다.

20 Araunah, who was busy threshing wheat at the time, turned and saw the angel there. His four sons, who were with him, ran away and hid.

21 그때 다윗이 다가왔습니다. 오르난이 내다보다 다윗을 알아보고 타작마당에서 나와서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 다윗에게 절했습니다.

21 When Araunah saw David approaching, he left his threshing floor and bowed before David with his face to the ground.

22 다윗이 오르난에게 말했습니다. "네 타작마당을 내게 팔아라. 넉넉히 값을 치를 테니 이 땅을 내게 팔아라. 여기에다 여호와께 제단을 쌓아야 백성들에게 내린 재난이 멈출 것이다."

22 David said to Araunah, "Let me buy this threshing floor from you at its full price. Then I will build an altar to the LORD there, so that he will stop the plague."

23 오르난이 다윗에게 말했습니다. "그냥 가지십시오! 내 주 왕께서는 무엇이든 좋으실 대로 하십시오. 보십시오. 제가 번제로 바칠 소와 땔감으로 쓰도록 타작 기계를 드리고 곡식제사로 바칠 밀을 드리겠습니다. 제가 이 모든 것을 다 드리겠습니다."

23 "Take it, my lord the king, and use it as you wish," Araunah said to David. "I will give the oxen for the burnt offerings, and the threshing boards for wood to build a fire on the altar, and the wheat for the grain offering. I will give it all to you."

24 다윗 왕이 오르난에게 대답했습니다. "아니다. 나는 넉넉히 값을 치를 것이다. 내가 여호와께 네 것을 드리거나 내가 값을 치르지 않은 번제를 드릴 수 없다."

24 But King David replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on buying it for the full price. I will not take what is yours and give it to the LORD. I will not present burnt offerings that have cost me nothing!"

25 그리하여 다윗은 오르난에게 그 땅 값으로 금 600세겔을 저울에 달아 주었습니다.

25 So David gave Araunah 600 pieces of gold in payment for the threshing floor.

26 다윗은 그곳에서 여호와께 제단을 쌓고 번제와 화목제를 드렸습니다. 그는 여호와께 부르짖었고 여호와께서는 그에게 하늘에서부터 번제단에 불을 내림으로써 대답하셨습니다.

26 David built an altar there to the LORD and sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. And when David prayed, the LORD answered him by sending fire from heaven to burn up the offering on the altar.

27 그리고 여호와께서 천사에게 말씀하시자 천사는 칼을 칼집에 넣었습니다.

27 Then the LORD spoke to the angel, who put the sword back into its sheath.

28 여호와께서 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작마당에서 자신에게 대답하신 것을 보고 다윗은 그곳에서 제물을 드렸습니다.

28 When David saw that the LORD had answered his prayer, he offered sacrifices there at Araunah's threshing floor.

29 모세가 광야에서 만든 여호와의 장막과 번제단은 그 당시 기브온의 높은 곳에 있었습니다.

29 At that time the Tabernacle of the LORD and the altar of burnt offering that Moses had made in the wilderness were located at the place of worship in Gibeon.

30 그러나 다윗이 여호와의 천사의 칼을 두려워해서 감히 그 앞으로 가 하나님께 물을 수 없었습니다.

30 But David was not able to go there to inquire of God, because he was terrified by the drawn sword of the angel of the LORD.

22.

1 다윗이 말했습니다. "여기가 여호와 하나님의 집이며 또 여기가 이스라엘을 위한 번제단이다."

1 Then David said, "This will be the location for the Temple of the LORD God and the place of the altar for Israel's burnt offerings!"

2 <성전 건축을 위한 준비> 다윗은 이스라엘에 살고 있는 외국 사람들을 불러 모으라고 명령했습니다. 그중에서 석수장이들을 세워 하나님의 집을 짓기 위한 돌을 다듬게 했습니다.

2 So David gave orders to call together the foreigners living in Israel, and he assigned them the task of preparing finished stone for building the Temple of God.

3 그는 철을 많이 준비해 문짝과 돌쩌귀에 쓸 못을 만들게 했고 무게를 달 수 없을 만큼 많은 청동도 준비해 두었습니다.

3 David provided large amounts of iron for the nails that would be needed for the doors in the gates and for the clamps, and he gave more bronze than could be weighed.

4 또 셀 수 없을 만큼 많은 백향목도 준비했습니다. 시돈 사람과 두로 사람은 다윗에게 엄청난 양의 백향목을 가져왔습니다.

4 He also provided innumerable cedar logs, for the men of Tyre and Sidon had brought vast amounts of cedar to David.

5 다윗이 말했습니다. "내 아들 솔로몬은 아직 어리고 경험이 없다. 그러나 여호와를 위해 지어야 할 그 집은 아주 크고 아름다워서 모든 나라들이 보기에 대단한 명성과 영광을 지녀야 한다. 그러므로 내가 그것을 위해 준비할 것이다." 그리하여 다윗은 자기가 죽기 전에 필요한 것을 많이 준비했습니다.

5 David said, "My son Solomon is still young and inexperienced. And since the Temple to be built for the LORD must be a magnificent structure, famous and glorious throughout the world, I will begin making preparations for it now." So David collected vast amounts of building materials before his death.

6 다윗은 아들 솔로몬을 불러 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 위한 집을 짓는 일을 맡겼습니다.

6 Then David sent for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a Temple for the LORD, the God of Israel.

7 다윗이 솔로몬에게 말했습니다. "내 아들아, 나는 내 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위해 집을 지으리라고 마음을 먹었다.

7 "My son, I wanted to build a Temple to honor the name of the LORD my God," David told him.

8 그러나 여호와께서 내게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. '너는 많은 피를 흘렸고 많은 싸움을 치렀다. 내 이름을 위해 집을 지을 사람은 네가 아니다. 네가 내 앞에서 이 땅에 많은 피를 흘렸기 때문이다.

8 "But the LORD said to me, 'You have killed many men in the battles you have fought. And since you have shed so much blood in my sight, you will not be the one to build a Temple to honor my name.

9 보아라. 네게 한 아들이 태어날 것이다. 그는 평안의 사람이 될 것이다. 내가 그에게 사방에 있는 그 모든 적들에게서 평안을 안겨 줄 것이다. 그의 이름은 솔로몬이니 내가 그가 살아 있는 동안 이스라엘에 평화와 안정을 줄 것이다.

9 But you will have a son who will be a man of peace. I will give him peace with his enemies in all the surrounding lands. His name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.

10 그가 바로 내 이름을 위해 집을 지을 사람이다. 그는 내 아들이 될 것이고 나는 그의 아버지가 될 것이다. 그리고 내가 이스라엘을 다스릴 그의 왕좌를 영원히 세워 줄 것이다.'

10 He is the one who will build a Temple to honor my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will secure the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.'

11 내 아들아, 여호와께서 너와 함께하시고 네가 잘되며 네게 말씀하신 대로 네가 네 하나님 여호와의 집을 짓기 바란다.

11 "Now, my son, may the LORD be with you and give you success as you follow his directions in building the Temple of the LORD your God.

12 여호와께서 네게 지혜와 슬기를 주셔서 네가 이스라엘을 다스릴 때 네 하나님 여호와의 율법을 잘 지키기 원한다.

12 And may the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, that you may obey the Law of the LORD your God as you rule over Israel.

13 만일 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위해 모세에게 주셨던 율례와 규례를 잘 지키면 너는 잘될 것이다. 강해지고 용기를 가져라. 두려워 말고 놀라지 마라.

13 For you will be successful if you carefully obey the decrees and regulations that the LORD gave to Israel through Moses. Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or lose heart!

14 내가 여호와의 성전을 위해 애써서 금 10만 달란트, 은 100만 달란트, 무게를 달 수 없을 만큼 많은 청동과 철, 또 나무와 돌을 준비했다. 이제 너는 그것에 더할 것이다.

14 "I have worked hard to provide materials for building the Temple of the LORD - nearly 4,000 tons of gold, 40,000 tons of silver, and so much iron and bronze that it cannot be weighed. I have also gathered timber and stone for the walls, though you may need to add more.

15 네게는 일꾼들이 많다. 석수장이들과 목수들과 갖가지 재주가 있는 사람은 물론

15 You have a large number of skilled stonemasons and carpenters and craftsmen of every kind.

16 금, 은, 청동, 철을 잘 다루는 사람도 수없이 많다. 이제 일을 시작하여라. 여호와께서 너와 함께하신다."

16 You have expert goldsmiths and silversmiths and workers of bronze and iron. Now begin the work, and may the LORD be with you!"

17 그리고 다윗은 이스라엘의 모든 지도자들에게 자기 아들 솔로몬을 도우라고 명령했습니다.

17 Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to assist Solomon in this project.

18 다윗이 그들에게 말했습니다. "여호와 너희 하나님이 너희와 함께 계시지 않느냐? 너희에게 모든 면에서 평안을 허락하지 않으셨느냐? 이 땅의 주민들을 내게 넘겨주셨고 이 땅은 여호와와 그분의 백성들에게 복종한다.

18 "The LORD your God is with you," he declared. "He has given you peace with the surrounding nations. He has handed them over to me, and they are now subject to the LORD and his people.

19 그러므로 너희는 마음과 영을 다해 여호와 너희 하나님을 찾으라. 여호와 하나님의 성소를 짓는 일을 시작해 여호와의 언약궤와 하나님께 속한 거룩한 물건들을 여호와의 이름을 위해 지어질 성전에 가져다 두도록 하라."

19 Now seek the LORD your God with all your heart and soul. Build the sanctuary of the LORD God so that you can bring the Ark of the LORD's Covenant and the holy vessels of God into the Temple built to honor the LORD's name."

23.

1 <레위의 자손> 다윗이 나이가 들어 늙었습니다. 그는 자기 아들 솔로몬을 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕으로 세웠습니다.

1 When David was an old man, he appointed his son Solomon to be king over Israel.

2 그는 또한 제사장들과 레위 사람을 비롯한 모든 이스라엘의 지도자들을 불러 모았습니다.

2 David summoned all the leaders of Israel, together with the priests and Levites.

3 30세 이상인 레위 사람을 세었더니 그 수가 3만 8,000명이었습니다.

3 All the Levites who were thirty years old or older were counted, and the total came to 38,000.

4 이들 가운데 2만 4,000명이 여호와의 성전 일을 맡았고 6,000명이 관리와 재판관의 일을 맡았습니다.

4 Then David said, "From all the Levites, 24,000 will supervise the work at the Temple of the LORD. Another 6,000 will serve as officials and judges.

5 4,000명은 문지기가 되고 4,000명은 다윗이 찬송을 하기 위해 준비한 악기들을 갖고 여호와를 찬송하는 일을 맡게 됐습니다.

5 Another 4,000 will work as gatekeepers, and 4,000 will praise the LORD with the musical instruments I have made."

6 다윗은 레위 사람을 게르손, 그핫, 므라리의 자손에 따라 그 계열을 나누었습니다.

6 Then David divided the Levites into divisions named after the clans descended from the three sons of Levi - Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 <게르손의 자손> 게르손 자손은 라단과 시므이입니다.

7 The Gershonite family units were defined by their lines of descent from Libni and Shimei, the sons of Gershon.

8 라단의 아들은 우두머리 여히엘, 세담, 요엘 이렇게 모두 셋입니다.

8 Three of the descendants of Libni were Jehiel (the family leader), Zetham, and Joel.

9 시므이의 아들은 슬로밋, 하시엘, 하란 이렇게 모두 셋입니다. 이들은 라단의 우두머리들이었습니다.

9 These were the leaders of the family of Libni. Three of the descendants of Shimei were Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran.

10 또 시므이의 아들은 야핫, 시나, 여우스, 브리아 이렇게 모두 넷입니다.

10 Four other descendants of Shimei were Jahath, Ziza, Jeush, and Beriah.

11 그 우두머리는 야핫이었고 그다음은 시사였습니다. 여우스와 브리아는 아들이 많지 않아서 그들과 한집안으로 여겼습니다.

11 Jahath was the family leader, and Ziza was next. Jeush and Beriah were counted as a single family because neither had many sons.

12 <그핫의 자손> 그핫의 아들은 아므람, 이스할, 헤브론, 웃시엘 이렇게 넷입니다.

12 Four of the descendants of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

13 아므람의 아들은 아론과 모세입니다. 아론과 그의 자손은 구별돼서 영원히 몸을 거룩하게 해 여호와 앞에서 분향하고 섬기며 여호와의 이름으로 영원히 축복하게 했습니다.

13 The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his descendants were set apart to dedicate the most holy things, to offer sacrifices in the LORD's presence, to serve the LORD, and to pronounce blessings in his name forever.

14 하나님의 사람 모세의 아들은 레위 지파에 속했습니다.

14 As for Moses, the man of God, his sons were included with the tribe of Levi.

15 모세의 아들은 게르솜과 엘리에셀입니다.

15 The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.

16 게르솜의 아들은 우두머리 스브엘입니다.

16 The descendants of Gershom included Shebuel, the family leader.

17 엘리에셀의 아들은 우두머리 르하뱌입니다. 엘리에셀은 다른 아들은 없었으나 르하뱌의 아들은 수가 매우 많았습니다.

17 Eliezer had only one son, Rehabiah, the family leader. Rehabiah had numerous descendants.

18 이스할의 아들은 우두머리 슬로밋입니다.

18 The descendants of Izhar included Shelomith, the family leader.

19 헤브론의 아들은 우두머리 여리야, 둘째 아마랴, 셋째 야하시엘, 넷째 여가므암입니다.

19 The descendants of Hebron included Jeriah (the family leader), Amariah (the second), Jahaziel (the third), and Jekameam (the fourth).

20 웃시엘의 아들은 우두머리 미가와 그다음으로 잇시야입니다.

20 The descendants of Uzziel included Micah (the family leader) and Isshiah (the second).

21 <므라리의 자손> 므라리의 아들은 마흘리와 무시입니다. 마흘리의 아들은 엘르아살과 기스입니다.

21 The descendants of Merari included Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.

22 엘르아살은 아들 없이 죽었고 오직 딸만 있었습니다. 그들은 사촌 형제인 기스의 아들과 결혼했습니다.

22 Eleazar died with no sons, only daughters. His daughters married their cousins, the sons of Kish.

23 Three of the descendants of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth.

24 이들은 집안에 따라 기록한 레위 자손입니다. 자기 이름이 등록된 우두머리들로서 여호와의 성전에서 섬기는 20세 이상의 일꾼들이었습니다.

24 These were the descendants of Levi by clans, the leaders of their family groups, registered carefully by name. Each had to be twenty years old or older to qualify for service in the house of the LORD.

25 다윗은 말했습니다. "이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 그 백성들에게 평안을 주시고 영원히 예루살렘에 머물기 위해 오셨으므로

25 For David said, "The LORD, the God of Israel, has given us peace, and he will always live in Jerusalem.

26 레위 사람은 더 이상 장막이나 그 일에 쓰이는 기구들을 어깨에 메어 옮길 필요가 없다."

26 Now the Levites will no longer need to carry the Tabernacle and its furnishings from place to place."

27 다윗의 마지막 말에 따라서 20세 이상의 레위 사람 수를 세었습니다.

27 In accordance with David's final instructions, all the Levites twenty years old or older were registered for service.

28 레위 사람의 임무는 여호와의 성전을 섬기는 일에 아론의 자손을 돕는 것이었습니다. 성전 뜰과 골방을 맡아 관리하며 모든 거룩한 물건들을 깨끗하게 하는 일, 곧 하나님의 집에서 해야 할 여러 가지 일들이었습니다.

28 The work of the Levites was to assist the priests, the descendants of Aaron, as they served at the house of the LORD. They also took care of the courtyards and side rooms, helped perform the ceremonies of purification, and served in many other ways in the house of God.

29 그들은 상에 가져갈 빵, 곡식제사를 위한 밀가루, 무교병, 빵 굽기와 반죽하기, 모든 저울과 자를 맡아 관리했습니다.

29 They were in charge of the sacred bread that was set out on the table, the choice flour for the grain offerings, the wafers made without yeast, the cakes cooked in olive oil, and the other mixed breads. They were also responsible to check all the weights and measures.

30 그들은 새벽과 저녁마다 서서 여호와께 감사하고 찬송했습니다.

30 And each morning and evening they stood before the LORD to sing songs of thanks and praise to him.

31 안식일과 초하루와 정해진 명절에 여호와께 번제를 드릴 때마다 그렇게 했습니다. 그들은 여호와 앞에서 명령하신 수와 방법대로 계속 섬겼습니다.

31 They assisted with the burnt offerings that were presented to the LORD on Sabbath days, at new moon celebrations, and at all the appointed festivals. The required number of Levites served in the LORD's presence at all times, following all the procedures they had been given.

32 그리고 또 레위 사람은 회막의 임무, 성소의 임무, 그들의 형제 아론의 자손의 임무를 지켜 여호와의 집에서 섬기는 일을 했습니다.

32 And so, under the supervision of the priests, the Levites watched over the Tabernacle and the Temple and faithfully carried out their duties of service at the house of the LORD.
