17.

1 <다윗에게 주신 하나님의 언약 (삼하 7:1-17)> 다윗이 왕궁에서 살 때 나단 예언자에게 말했습니다. "나는 여기 백향목 왕궁에 사는데 여호와의 언약궤는 장막에 있소."

1 When David was settled in his palace, he summoned Nathan the prophet. "Look," David said, "I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of the LORD's Covenant is out there under a tent!"

2 나단이 다윗에게 대답했습니다. "왕께서 마음에 생각하신 일이 있으면 무엇이든 하십시오. 하나님이 왕과 함께하십니다."

2 Nathan replied to David, "Do whatever you have in mind, for God is with you."

3 그날 밤 하나님께서 나단에게 말씀하셨습니다.

3 But that same night God said to Nathan,

4 "가서 내 종 다윗에게 말하여라. 여호와께서 하시는 말씀이다. 내가 있을 집을 지을 사람은 네가 아니다.

4 "Go and tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD has declared： You are not the one to build a house for me to live in.

5 내가 이스라엘 백성들을 이집트에서 이끌어 낸 그날부터 지금까지 나는 집에 있지 않았다. 나는 이 장막, 저 장막으로 이리저리 옮겨 다녔다.

5 I have never lived in a house, from the day I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until this very day. My home has always been a tent, moving from one place to another in a Tabernacle.

6 내가 온 이스라엘 백성들과 함께 옮겨 다니면서 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리라고 명령한 지도자들 가운데 누구에게 '왜 내게 백향목으로 집을 만들어 주지 않느냐'고 말한 적이 있느냐?

6 Yet no matter where I have gone with the Israelites, I have never once complained to Israel's leaders, the shepherds of my people. I have never asked them, "Why haven't you built me a beautiful cedar house?"'

7 그러니 내 종 다윗에게 말하여라. '만군의 여호와께서 하시는 말씀이다. 내가 너를 풀밭, 곧 양을 쫓아다니던 자리에서 데려다 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 사람으로 삼았다.

7 "Now go and say to my servant David, 'This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies has declared： I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel.

8 네가 어디로 가든 내가 너와 함께했고 네 앞에서 네 모든 원수들을 멸망시켰다. 이제 내가 이 땅의 위대한 사람들의 이름처럼 네 이름을 위대하게 하겠다.

8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before your eyes. Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth!

9 그리고 내 백성 이스라엘을 위해 한 곳을 정해 그곳에 그들을 심을 것이다. 그들이 자기들의 집에 살게 될 것이며 옮겨 다니지 않고 괴롭힘을 당하지 않을 것이다. 예전처럼 악한 사람이 그들을 해치지 못할 것이다.

9 And I will provide a homeland for my people Israel, planting them in a secure place where they will never be disturbed. Evil nations won't oppress them as they've done in the past,

10 또한 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 사사들을 세울 때와 같지 않고 내가 네 모든 원수들을 네게 복종하게 할 것이다. 여호와께서 친히 너를 위해 집을 세우실 것이다.

10 starting from the time I appointed judges to rule my people Israel. And I will defeat all your enemies."'Furthermore, I declare that the LORD will build a house for you - a dynasty of kings!

11 네 날이 다 돼 네 조상들에게 갈 때가 되면 내가 네 자손을 일으켜 네 뒤를 잇게 할 것이다. 네 아들 가운데 하나를 왕으로 세우고 내가 그의 나라를 굳세게 할 것이다.

11 For when you die and join your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, one of your sons, and I will make his kingdom strong.

12 그는 나를 위해 집을 세울 것이다. 그리고 나는 그의 왕위를 영원히 굳게 세워 줄 것이다.

12 He is the one who will build a house - a temple - for me. And I will secure his throne forever.

13 내가 그의 아버지가 되고 그는 내 아들이 될 것이다. 내가 네 전에 있던 왕에게서는 사랑을 거두었으나 그에게서는 사랑을 결코 거두지 않을 것이다.

13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my favor from him as I took it from the one who ruled before you.

14 내가 내 집과 내 나라 위에 영원히 그를 왕으로 세울 것이다. 그 왕의 자리는 영원히 흔들리지 않을 것이다.'"

14 I will confirm him as king over my house and my kingdom for all time, and his throne will be secure forever.'"

15 나단은 이 모든 계시의 말씀을 다윗에게 전했습니다.

15 So Nathan went back to David and told him everything the LORD had said in this vision.

16 <다윗의 기도 (삼하 7:18-29)> 그러자 다윗 왕은 여호와 앞에 들어가 앉아 말했습니다. "여호와 하나님이여, 제가 누구이며 제 집안이 무엇이기에 이토록 저를 극진히 대우하십니까?

16 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and prayed, "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?

17 하나님께서 보시기에 이 종은 보잘것없는 사람입니다. 하나님이여, 여호와께서 종의 집의 먼 앞날에 대해서 말씀해 주셨습니다. 여호와 하나님이여, 주께서는 저를 사람 가운데 가장 귀한 사람으로 높여 주셨습니다.

17 And now, O God, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! You speak as though I were someone very great, O LORD God!

18 이렇게 주의 종을 높여 주시니 다윗이 주께 무슨 말을 더하겠습니까? 주께서 주의 종을 잘 아십니다.

18 "What more can I say to you about the way you have honored me? You know what your servant is really like.

19 여호와여, 주의 종을 위해 주의 뜻에 따라 주께서 이 위대한 일을 하셨고 이 모든 위대한 약속을 알려 주셨습니다.

19 For the sake of your servant, O LORD, and according to your will, you have done all these great things and have made them known.

20 여호와여, 주 같으신 분은 없습니다. 우리가 우리 귀로 들은 대로 주 말고는 참신이 없습니다.

20 "O LORD, there is no one like you. We have never even heard of another God like you!

21 땅에 있는 누가 주의 백성 이스라엘과 같습니까? 하나님께서 가서 이스라엘을 구하시고 주의 백성으로 삼아 주셨습니다. 이집트에서 이끌어 내신 주의 백성들 앞에서 다른 나라들과 그 신들을 주께서 내쫓고 이스라엘을 위해 크고 놀라운 기적을 일으키셨습니다.

21 What other nation on earth is like your people Israel? What other nation, O God, have you redeemed from slavery to be your own people? You made a great name for yourself when you redeemed your people from Egypt. You performed awesome miracles and drove out the nations that stood in their way.

22 주께서는 주의 백성 이스라엘을 영원히 주의 것으로 세우셨습니다. 여호와여, 주께서는 그들의 하나님이 되셨습니다.

22 You chose Israel to be your very own people forever, and you, O LORD, became their God.

23 여호와여, 이제 주의 종과 그 집에 대해 하신 약속을 영원히 굳게 세워 주십시오. 약속하신 말씀대로 하셔서

23 "And now, O LORD, I am your servant; do as you have promised concerning me and my family. May it be a promise that will last forever.

24 반드시 그렇게 이뤄지게 하시고 주의 이름이 영원히 높임을 받게 하십시오. 그러면 사람이 '만군의 여호와, 이스라엘을 다스리시는 하나님은 이스라엘의 하나님이시다!'라고 말할 것입니다. 그리고 주의 종 다윗의 집은 주 앞에 굳게 세워 주십시오.

24 And may your name be established and honored forever so that everyone will say, 'The LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, is Israel's God!' And may the house of your servant David continue before you forever.

25 내 하나님이여, 주께서 종을 위해 집을 세우실 것을 주의 종에게 듣게 하셨습니다. 그래서 주의 종이 감히 기도를 올려 드립니다.

25 "O my God, I have been bold enough to pray to you because you have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him - a dynasty of kings!

26 여호와여, 오직 주만이 하나님이십니다! 주께서 주의 종에게 이런 좋은 것으로 약속하셨습니다.

26 For you are God, O LORD. And you have promised these good things to your servant.

27 이제 주께서 주의 종의 집에 기꺼이 복을 주셨으니 그 집이 주 앞에 영원히 계속되게 해 주십시오. 여호와여, 주께서 복을 주셨으니 영원히 복을 받을 것입니다."

27 And now, it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, so that it will continue forever before you. For when you grant a blessing, O LORD, it is an eternal blessing!"

18.

1 <다윗의 승리 (삼하 8:1-18)> 그 후에 다윗은 블레셋 사람들을 쳐서 굴복시켰습니다. 그는 가드와 그 주변 마을들을 블레셋에게서 빼앗았습니다.

1 After this, David defeated and subdued the Philistines by conquering Gath and its surrounding towns.

2 다윗은 또 모압을 쳤고 모압 사람들은 다윗의 종이 돼 조공을 바치게 됐습니다.

2 David also conquered the land of Moab, and the Moabites who were spared became David's subjects and paid him tribute money.

3 또한 다윗은 유프라테스 강을 따라 지배권을 넓히려고 하는 소바 왕 하닷에셀과 싸워 하맛까지 갔습니다.

3 David also destroyed the forces of Hadadezer, king of Zobah, as far as Hamath, when Hadadezer marched out to strengthen his control along the Euphrates River.

4 다윗은 1,000대의 전차와 7,000명의 기마병과 2만 명의 보병을 빼앗고 말은 전차용 말 100마리만을 남기고 나머지 말은 모두 발의 힘줄을 끊어 버렸습니다.

4 David captured 1,000 chariots, 7,000 charioteers, and 20,000 foot soldiers. He crippled all the chariot horses except enough for 100 chariots.

5 다메섹의 아람 사람이 소바 왕 하닷에셀을 도우러 오자 다윗은 아람 사람 2만 2,000명을 죽였습니다.

5 When Arameans from Damascus arrived to help King Hadadezer, David killed 22,000 of them.

6 다윗은 다메섹의 아람에 군대를 두었고 아람 사람은 그에게 굴복해 조공을 바쳤습니다. 여호와께서는 다윗이 가는 곳마다 승리하게 하셨습니다.

6 Then he placed several army garrisons in Damascus, the Aramean capital, and the Arameans became David's subjects and paid him tribute money. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.

7 다윗은 하닷에셀의 부하들이 가져온 금 방패들을 빼앗아 예루살렘으로 가져왔습니다.

7 David brought the gold shields of Hadadezer's officers to Jerusalem,

8 또 다윗은 하닷에셀의 성들인 디브핫과 군에서 많은 양의 청동을 가져왔으며 솔로몬은 그것으로 청동 바다와 기둥과 여러 가지 청동그릇들을 만들었습니다.

8 along with a large amount of bronze from Hadadezer's towns of Tebah and Cun. Later Solomon melted the bronze and molded it into the great bronze basin called the Sea, the pillars, and the various bronze articles used at the Temple.

9 하맛 왕 도우는 다윗이 소바 왕 하닷에셀의 모든 군사를 무찔렀다는 소식을 듣고

9 When King Toi of Hamath heard that David had destroyed the entire army of King Hadadezer of Zobah,

10 자기 아들 하도람을 다윗 왕에게 축하 인사를 하도록 보내, 도우와 싸운 적이 있던 하닷에셀과 싸워 이긴 것을 축하했습니다. 하도람은 금, 은, 청동으로 만든 온갖 종류의 물품들을 가져왔습니다.

10 he sent his son Joram to congratulate King David for his successful campaign. Hadadezer and Toi had been enemies and were often at war. Joram presented David with many gifts of gold, silver, and bronze.

11 다윗 왕은 이 물건들을 여호와께 바쳤습니다. 에돔과 모압, 암몬 사람, 블레셋 사람, 아말렉 등 이 모든 나라들에서 빼앗은 은과 금도 함께 바쳤습니다.

11 King David dedicated all these gifts to the LORD, along with the silver and gold he had taken from the other nations - from Edom, Moab, Ammon, Philistia, and Amalek.

12 스루야의 아들 아비새는 소금 골짜기에서 에돔 사람 1만 8,000명을 죽였습니다.

12 Abishai son of Zeruiah destroyed 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

13 그는 에돔에 군대를 두었고 모든 에돔 사람은 다윗에게 굴복했습니다. 여호와께서는 다윗이 가는 곳마다 승리하게 하셨습니다.

13 He placed army garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David's subjects. In fact, the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.

14 <다윗의 신하들 (삼하 20:23-26)> 다윗은 온 이스라엘을 다스리고 모든 백성들에게 공평하고 올바르게 행했습니다.

14 So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people.

15 스루야의 아들 요압은 군사를 지휘했고 아힐룻의 아들 여호사밧은 역사를 기록하는 사람이 됐고

15 Joab son of Zeruiah was commander of the army. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the royal historian.

16 아히둡의 아들 사독과 아비아달의 아들 아비멜렉은 제사장이 됐으며 사워사는 서기관이 됐습니다.

16 Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were the priests. Seraiah was the court secretary.

17 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람을 지휘했고 다윗의 아들은 왕을 섬기는 신하가 됐습니다.

17 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was captain of the king's bodyguard. And David's sons served as the king's chief assistants.

19.

1 <다윗이 암몬을 무찌르다 (삼하 10:1-19)> 그 후 암몬 사람의 왕 나하스가 죽고 그 아들이 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다.

1 Some time after this, King Nahash of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun became king.

2 다윗이 말했습니다. "내가 나하스의 아들 하눈에게 은혜를 베풀어야겠다. 그의 아버지가 내게 은혜를 베풀었기 때문이다." 그리하여 다윗은 하눈의 아버지의 죽음을 위로하려고 암몬 땅의 하눈에게 신하들을 보냈습니다. 다윗의 종들이 위로의 뜻을 표하려고 암몬 사람의 땅에 이르렀습니다.

2 David said, "I am going to show loyalty to Hanun because his father, Nahash, was always loyal to me." So David sent messengers to express sympathy to Hanun about his father's death.But when David's ambassadors arrived in the land of Ammon,

3 암몬의 귀족들이 하눈에게 말했습니다. "다윗이 위로의 뜻을 전하기 위해 당신께 사람을 보낸 것이 왕의 아버지를 공경했기 때문이라고 생각하십니까? 다윗이 성읍을 엿보고 살펴서 손에 넣으려고 종들을 보낸 것 아니겠습니까?"

3 the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun, "Do you really think these men are coming here to honor your father? No! David has sent them to spy out the land so they can come in and conquer it!"

4 그러자 하눈은 다윗의 종들을 붙잡아 수염을 깎고 겉옷을 엉덩이 중간까지 자른 뒤에 돌려보냈습니다.

4 So Hanun seized David's ambassadors and shaved them, cut off their robes at the buttocks, and sent them back to David in shame.

5 사람들이 다윗에게 와서 그 사람들이 당한 일에 대해 말했습니다. 다윗은 사람을 보내 엄청난 수치를 당한 그들을 맞이하게 했습니다. 그리고 왕이 말했습니다. "수염이 자랄 때까지 여리고에 머물다가 돌아오너라."

5 When David heard what had happened to the men, he sent messengers to tell them, "Stay at Jericho until your beards grow out, and then come back." For they felt deep shame because of their appearance.

6 암몬 사람은 자기들이 다윗에게 밉게 보인 줄을 알고 아람 나하라임, 아람 마아가, 소바에 1,000달란트의 은을 보내 전차와 마병을 고용했습니다.

6 When the people of Ammon realized how seriously they had angered David, Hanun and the Ammonites sent 75,000 pounds of silver to hire chariots and charioteers from Aram-naharaim, Aram-maacah, and Zobah.

7 그들은 3만 2,000대의 전차와 마아가 왕과 그 군사를 고용한 후 메드바 가까이로 가서 진을 쳤습니다. 암몬 사람은 자기들의 성읍에서 모여 와 싸움터로 갔습니다.

7 They also hired 32,000 chariots and secured the support of the king of Maacah and his army. These forces camped at Medeba, where they were joined by the Ammonite troops that Hanun had recruited from his own towns.

8 다윗은 이 소식을 듣자마자 요압과 모든 용사를 보냈습니다.

8 When David heard about this, he sent Joab and all his warriors to fight them.

9 암몬 사람은 나아와 자기들의 성문에 진을 쳤고 이미 와 있던 왕들은 따로 들판에 떨어져 있었습니다.

9 The Ammonite troops came out and drew up their battle lines at the entrance of the city, while the other kings positioned themselves to fight in the open fields.

10 요압은 앞뒤에 적이 진을 친 것을 보고 이스라엘에서 뛰어난 군사 가운데서 고르고 골라 아람 사람을 상대로 진을 쳤습니다.

10 When Joab saw that he would have to fight on both the front and the rear, he chose some of Israel's elite troops and placed them under his personal command to fight the Arameans in the fields.

11 나머지 군사들은 요압의 동생인 아비새의 지휘 아래 암몬 사람을 상대로 진을 쳤습니다.

11 He left the rest of the army under the command of his brother Abishai, who was to attack the Ammonites.

12 요압이 말했습니다. "아람 사람이 나보다 강하면 나를 도우러 와야 한다. 그러나 암몬 사람이 너보다 강하면 내가 너를 도우러 가겠다.

12 "If the Arameans are too strong for me, then come over and help me," Joab told his brother. "And if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I will help you.

13 마음을 굳게 먹어라. 우리 백성들과 우리 하나님의 성을 위해 용감하게 싸우자. 여호와께서 보시기에 옳은 일을 하실 것이다."

13 Be courageous! Let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. May the LORD's will be done."

14 그리고 요압과 그의 군대가 아람 사람과 싸우기 위해 나가자 아람의 군사들은 도망쳐 버렸습니다.

14 When Joab and his troops attacked, the Arameans began to run away.

15 아람 사람이 도망치는 것을 본 암몬 사람은 요압의 동생 아비새 앞에서 도망쳐 성안으로 들어가 버렸습니다. 그래서 요압은 예루살렘으로 돌아갔습니다.

15 And when the Ammonites saw the Arameans running, they also ran from Abishai and retreated into the city. Then Joab returned to Jerusalem.

16 아람 사람은 자기들이 이스라엘에게 진 것을 보고 사람을 보내 아람 사람을 다시 강 건너로 불러냈습니다. 하닷에셀 군대의 사령관 소박이 그들을 이끌었습니다.

16 The Arameans now realized that they were no match for Israel, so they sent messengers and summoned additional Aramean troops from the other side of the Euphrates River. These troops were under the command of Shobach, the commander of Hadadezer's forces.

17 다윗은 이 소식을 듣고 온 이스라엘을 모아서 요단 강을 건너갔습니다. 그는 아람 사람들을 향해 나아가 그 반대편에 진을 쳤습니다. 다윗은 그곳에서 아람 사람과 맞서 그들과 싸웠습니다.

17 When David heard what was happening, he mobilized all Israel, crossed the Jordan River, and positioned his troops in battle formation. Then David engaged the Arameans in battle, and they fought against him.

18 그러나 아람 사람들은 이스라엘 앞에서 쫓겨 도망쳤습니다. 다윗은 아람의 전차병 7,000명과 보병 4만 명을 죽이고 또 그 군대의 사령관 소박도 죽였습니다.

18 But again the Arameans fled from the Israelites. This time David's forces killed 7,000 charioteers and 40,000 foot soldiers, including Shobach, the commander of their army.

19 하닷에셀의 부하들은 자기들이 이스라엘에 진 것을 보고 다윗과 평화롭게 지내고 다윗을 섬기기로 했습니다. 그 후로 아람 사람은 암몬 사람을 도우려 하지 않았습니다.

19 When Hadadezer's allies saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they surrendered to David and became his subjects. After that, the Arameans were no longer willing to help the Ammonites.

20.

1 <랍바를 함락시키다 (삼하 12:26-31)> 봄이 돼 왕들이 전쟁터에 나갈 때가 되자 요압이 군사를 이끌고 나갔습니다. 그는 암몬 사람의 땅을 쳐서 무찌르고 랍바로 가서 그곳을 에워쌌습니다. 그러나 다윗은 예루살렘에 남아 있었습니다. 요압은 랍바를 쳐서 멸망시켰습니다.

1 In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, Joab led the Israelite army in successful attacks against the land of the Ammonites. In the process he laid siege to the city of Rabbah. However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem.

2 다윗은 그 나라 왕의 머리에서 왕관을 빼앗아 자기 머리에 썼습니다. 보석이 박혀 있는 그 왕관의 무게는 금 1달란트나 됐습니다. 다윗은 그 성에서 값진 물건을 많이 빼앗아 가져왔습니다.

2 When David arrived at Rabbah, he removed the crown from the king's head, and it was placed on his own head. The crown was made of gold and set with gems, and he found that it weighed seventy-five pounds. David took a vast amount of plunder from the city.

3 그곳에 있던 사람을 끌어다가 톱질과 써레질과 도끼질을 시키고 벽돌을 굽게 했습니다. 다윗은 암몬의 모든 성들을 이렇게 했습니다. 그리고 모든 군사를 거느리고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔습니다.

3 He also made slaves of the people of Rabbah and forced them to labor with saws, iron picks, and iron axes. That is how David dealt with the people of all the Ammonite towns. Then David and all the army returned to Jerusalem.

4 <블레셋과의 전쟁 (삼하 21:15-22)> 이후에 게셀에서 이스라엘이 블레셋 사람과 전쟁했습니다. 그때 후사 사람 십브개가 거인족의 자손 가운데 한 사람인 십배를 죽이자 블레셋 사람은 항복했습니다.

4 After this, war broke out with the Philistines at Gezer. As they fought, Sibbecai from Hushah killed Saph, a descendant of the giants, and so the Philistines were subdued.

5 다시 블레셋 사람과 전쟁할 때 야일의 아들 엘하난이 자루가 베틀 채 같은 창을 가진 가드 사람 골리앗의 동생 라흐미를 죽였습니다.

5 During another battle with the Philistines, Elhanan son of Jair killed Lahmi, the brother of Goliath of Gath. The handle of Lahmi's spear was as thick as a weaver's beam!

6 가드에서 일어난 또 다른 전쟁에서는 거인족의 자손으로서 손가락과 발가락이 여섯 개씩 모두 24개인 거인이 있었습니다.

6 In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants.

7 그가 이스라엘을 조롱하자 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들 요나단이 그를 죽여 버렸습니다.

7 But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David's brother Shimea.

8 이들은 가드에 있던 거인족의 후손들이었지만 다윗과 그의 부하들의 손에 쓰러졌습니다.

8 These Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them.
