1.
1 처음에 [말씀]이 계셨고 [말씀]이 하나님과 함께 계셨으며 [말씀]이 하나님이셨더라.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 바로 그분께서 처음에 하나님과 함께 계셨고
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 모든 것이 그분에 의해 만들어졌으니 만들어진 것 중에 그분 없이 만들어진 것은 하나도 없었더라.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4 그분 안에 생명이 있었으며 그 생명은 사람들의 빛이더라.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 그 빛이 어둠 속에 비치되 어둠이 그것을 깨닫지 못하더라.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 ¶ 하나님께서 보내신 사람이 있었는데 그의 이름은 요한이더라.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 바로 그가 증언하러 왔으니 이것은 그 빛에 대해 증언하여 모든 사람이 자기를 통해 믿게 하려 함이라.
7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
8 그는 그 빛이 아니요 그 빛에 대해 증언하도록 보내어진 자더라.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 그 빛은 참 빛으로 세상에 들어오는 모든 사람을 비추느니라.
9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
10 그분께서 세상에 계셨으며 세상이 그분에 의해 만들어졌으되 세상이 그분을 알지 못하였고
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 그분께서 자기 백성에게 오시매 그분의 백성이 그분을 받아들이지 아니하였으나
11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12 그분을 받아들인 자들 곧 그분의 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 다 하나님의 아들이 되는 권능을 그분께서 주셨으니
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13 이들은 혈통으로나 육신의 뜻으로나 사람의 뜻으로 나지 아니하고 오직 하나님에게서 태어난 자들이니라.
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 [말씀]이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매 (우리가 그분의 영광을 보니 [아버지]의 독생하신 분의 영광이요) 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 ¶ 요한이 그분에 대해 증언하며 외쳐 이르되, 내가 말하기를, 내 뒤에 오시는 분이 나보다 앞서신 것은 그분께서 나보다 먼저 계셨기 때문이라, 하며 언급한 분이 곧 이분이라, 하니라.
15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.'"
16 우리가 다 그분의 충만하심에서 받았으매 은혜를 대체하는 은혜니
16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
17 이는 율법은 모세를 통해 주셨으되 은혜와 진리는 예수 그리스도를 통해 왔기 때문이라.
17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 아무도 어느 때나 하나님을 보지 못하였으되 [아버지] 품속에 계신 독생자께서 그분을 밝히 드러내셨느니라.
18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
19 ¶ 유대인들이 예루살렘에서 제사장들과 레위 사람들을 그에게 보내어, 네가 누구냐? 하고 물을 때에 그의 증언이 이러하니라.
19 Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
20 그가 시인하고 부인하지 아니하며 시인하여, 나는 그리스도가 아니라, 하매
20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
21 그들이 또 그에게 묻되, 그러면 무엇이냐? 네가 엘리야냐? 하니 그가 이르되, 나는 아니라, 하매 또 묻되, 그러면 네가 그 대언자냐? 하니 그가 대답하되, 아니라, 하거늘
21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."
22 이에 그들이 그에게 이르되, 너는 누구냐? 우리를 보낸 사람들에게 우리가 대답하게 하라. 너는 네 자신을 가리켜 누구라고 하느냐? 하니
22 Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"
23 그가 이르되, 나는 대언자 이사야가 말한 것 같이, [주]의 길을 곧게 하라, 하고 광야에서 외치는 자의 소리로다, 하니라.
23 He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD,"' as the prophet Isaiah said."
24 그들은 바리새인들이 보낸 자들이더라.
24 Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.
25 그들이 또 그에게 물으며 그에게 이르되, 그러면 네가 그 그리스도도 아니요 엘리야도 아니요 그 대언자도 아닐진대 어찌하여 침례를 주느냐? 하매
25 And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
26 요한이 그들에게 대답하여 이르되, 나는 물로 침례를 주거니와 너희가 알지 못하는 한 분이 너희 가운데 서 계시니
26 John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.
27 곧 내 뒤에 오시지만 나보다 앞서신 분이시라. 나는 그분의 신발 끈을 풀 자격도 없노라, 하더라.
27 "It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose."
28 이 일들은 요한이 침례를 주던 곳인 요르단 건너편 베다바라에서 일어났더라.
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 ¶ 다음 날 요한이 예수님께서 자기에게 오시는 것을 보고 이르되, 세상 죄를 제거하시는 하나님의 [어린양]을 보라.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30 내가 말하기를, 내 뒤에 오시는 분이 있는데 그분께서 나보다 앞서신 것은 그분께서 나보다 먼저 계셨기 때문이라, 하며 언급한 분이 곧 이분이라.
30 "This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.'
31 내가 그분을 알지 못하였으나 그분이 이스라엘에게 드러나야 하므로 내가 와서 물로 침례를 주노라, 하니라.
31 "I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water."
32 요한이 또 증언하여 이르되, 내가 보매 성령께서 비둘기같이 하늘로부터 내려오사 그분 위에 머무셨더라.
32 And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
33 나는 그분을 알지 못하였으나 나를 보내어 물로 침례를 주게 하신 분 바로 그분께서 내게 이르시되, 성령이 누구에게 내려와 그 위에 머무는 것을 네가 보거든 바로 그가 곧 [성령]으로 침례를 주는 분이니라, 하셨기에
33 "I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'
34 내가 보고 이분이 하나님의 [아들]이심을 증언하였노라, 하니라.
34 "And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."
35 ¶ 또 다음 날 요한이 자기 제자들 중의 두 사람과 함께 서 있다가
35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.
36 예수님께서 거니실 때에 그분을 보고 이르되, 하나님의 [어린양]을 보라! 하니
36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!"
37 그 두 제자가 그의 말을 듣고 예수님을 따르거늘
37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 그때에 예수님께서 돌이키사 그들이 따르는 것을 보시고 그들에게 이르시되, 너희가 무엇을 구하느냐? 하시매 그들이 그분께 이르되, 랍비여, 어디에 거하시나이까? 하니 (랍비는 번역하면 선생님이라는 말이라.)
38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?"
39 그분께서 그들에게 이르시되, 와서 보라, 하시더라. 그들이 가서 그분께서 거하시는 곳을 보고 그 날 그분과 함께 머무르니 이는 때가 열 시쯤이었기 때문이더라.
39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
40 요한의 말을 듣고 그분을 따른 두 사람 중의 하나는 시몬 베드로의 형제 안드레더라.
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 그가 먼저 자기 형제 시몬을 찾아내어 그에게 이르되, 우리가 메시아를 만났다, 하니 메시아는 번역하면 그리스도라.
41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ).
42 그가 그를 데리고 예수님께로 오매 예수님께서 그를 바라보시고 이르시되, 네가 요나의 아들 시몬인즉 게바라 불리리라, 하셨는데 게바는 번역하면 돌이라.
42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone).
43 ¶ 그 다음 날 예수님께서 갈릴리로 나아가려 하시다가 빌립을 만나 그에게 이르시되, 나를 따르라, 하시니라.
43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, "Follow Me."
44 그런데 빌립은 안드레와 베드로의 도시인 벳새다 출신이더라.
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 빌립이 나다나엘을 찾아 그에게 이르되, 모세가 율법에 기록하고 대언자들이 기록한 그분을 우리가 만났으니 곧 요셉의 아들 나사렛 예수님이시니라, 하매
45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
46 나다나엘이 그에게 이르되, 나사렛에서 무슨 선한 것이 날 수 있느냐? 하니 빌립이 그에게 이르되, 와서 보라, 하니라.
46 And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."
47 예수님께서 나다나엘이 자기에게 오는 것을 보시고 그를 가리켜 이르시되, 참으로 이스라엘 사람을 보라. 그 속에 간사함이 없도다! 하시니
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!"
48 나다나엘이 그분께 이르되, 어떻게 나를 아시나이까? 하매 예수님께서 그에게 대답하여 이르시되, 빌립이 너를 부르기 전에 네가 무화과나무 밑에 있을 때에 내가 너를 보았노라, 하시니
48 Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."
49 나다나엘이 그분께 응답하여 이르되, 랍비여, 선생님은 하나님의 [아들]이시요 선생님은 이스라엘의 [왕]이로소이다, 하매
49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"
50 예수님께서 그에게 응답하여 이르시되, 내가 너를 무화과나무 밑에서 보았다고 네게 말하였으므로 네가 믿느냐? 네가 이것들보다 더 큰일들을 보리라, 하시고
50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these."
51 또 그에게 이르시되, 진실로 진실로 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 이후로는 하늘이 열리고 하나님의 천사들이 사람의 [아들] 위에서 오르락내리락 하는 것을 너희가 보리라, 하시니라.
51 And He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."
2.
1 셋째 날 갈릴리 가나에서 혼인 잔치가 있어 예수님의 어머니도 거기 있었고
1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
2 예수님과 그분의 제자들도 혼인 잔치에 초대를 받았더라.
2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.
3 그들에게 포도즙이 떨어지매 예수님의 어머니가 그분께 이르되, 그들에게 포도즙이 없다, 하니
3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine."
4 예수님께서 그녀에게 이르시되, 여자여, 내가 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까? 내 때가 아직 이르지 아니하였나이다, 하시거늘
4 Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come."
5 그분의 어머니가 종들에게 이르되, 그분께서 너희에게 무엇을 말씀하시든지 그대로 하라, 하니라.
5 His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."
6 거기에 유대인들의 정결하게 하는 관례에 따라 각각 물 두세 통 담는 돌 항아리 여섯 개가 놓여 있더라.
6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.
7 예수님께서 그들에게 이르시되, 물 항아리들에 물을 채우라, 하신즉 그들이 아귀까지 그것들을 채우니
7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." And they filled them up to the brim.
8 그분께서 그들에게 이르시되, 이제는 떠서 잔치를 맡은 자에게 가져다주라, 하시매 그들이 그것을 가져다주었더니
8 And He said to them, "Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast." And they took it.
9 잔치를 주관하는 자는 포도즙이 된 물을 맛보고 그것이 어디서 났는지 알지 못하되 (그 물을 떠 온 종들은 알더라.) 잔치를 맡은 자가 신랑을 불러
9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.
10 그에게 이르되, 모든 사람이 처음에 좋은 포도즙을 내고 사람들이 충분히 마신 뒤에 덜 좋은 것을 내거늘 그대는 지금까지 좋은 포도즙을 남겨 두었도다, 하니라.
10 And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!"
11 예수님께서 기적들 중의 이 처음 기적을 갈릴리 가나에서 행하사 자신의 영광을 나타내시니 그분의 제자들이 그분을 믿으니라.
11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
12 ¶ 이 일 뒤에 그분께서 자기 어머니와 자기 형제들과 제자들과 함께 가버나움으로 내려가시니라. 그들이 거기에 여러 날 있지는 아니하니라.
12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
13 ¶ 유대인들의 유월절이 가까이 오매 예수님께서 예루살렘으로 올라가사
13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 성전 안에서 소와 양과 비둘기 파는 자들과 돈 바꾸는 자들이 앉아 있는 것을 보시고는
14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business.
15 가는 노끈으로 채찍을 만드사 양과 소와 함께 그들을 다 성전에서 내쫓으시고 돈 바꾸는 자들의 돈을 쏟으시며 상을 엎으시고
15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables.
16 비둘기 파는 자들에게 이르시되, 이것들을 여기서 가져가고 내 [아버지] 집을 장사하는 집으로 만들지 말라, 하시니
16 And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!"
17 그분의 제자들이 기록된바, 주의 집에 대한 열심이 나를 삼켰나이다, 한 것을 기억하더라.
17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up."
18 ¶ 이에 유대인들이 응답하며 그분께 이르되, 네가 이런 일들을 행하니 우리에게 무슨 표적을 보이느냐? 하매
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?"
19 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하여 이르시되, 이 성전을 헐라. 사흘 안에 내가 그것을 일으켜 세우리라, 하시니
19 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
20 이에 유대인들이 이르되, 이 성전을 짓는 데 사십육 년이 걸렸거늘 네가 그것을 사흘 안에 세우겠느냐? 하더라.
20 Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"
21 그러나 그분께서는 성전인 자기 몸을 가리켜 말씀하셨더라.
21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
22 그러므로 그분께서 죽은 자들로부터 일어나신 뒤에 그분의 제자들이 그분께서 자기들에게 이것을 말씀하셨음을 기억하고 성경 기록과 예수님께서 하신 말씀을 믿었더라.
22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
23 ¶ 이제 유월절이 되어 그분께서 명절에 예루살렘에 계시매 많은 사람들이 그분께서 행하신 기적들을 보고 그분의 이름을 믿었으나
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did.
24 예수님께서는 자신을 그들에게 맡기지 아니하셨으니 이는 그분께서 모든 사람을 아셨기 때문이요,
24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men,
25 또 사람에 대하여 누구의 증언도 받을 필요가 없으셨으니 이는 그분께서 사람 속에 있던 것을 아셨기 때문이라.
25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.

1 바리새인들 중에 니고데모라 하는 사람이 있었는데 그는 유대인들의 치리자더라.
1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2 바로 그가 밤에 예수님께 나아와 그분께 이르되, 랍비여, 우리가 당신은 하나님으로부터 오신 선생인 줄 아나이다. 하나님께서 함께하지 아니하시면 당신이 행하시는 이 기적들을 아무도 할 수 없나이다, 하매
2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."
3 예수님께서 그에게 응답하여 이르시되, 진실로 진실로 내가 네게 이르노니, 사람이 다시 태어나지 아니하면 하나님의 왕국을 볼 수 없느니라, 하시니라.
3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 니고데모가 그분께 이르되, 사람이 늙으면 어떻게 태어날 수 있나이까? 그가 자기 어머니 태에 두 번째 들어갔다가 태어날 수 있나이까? 하매
4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
5 예수님께서 대답하시되, 진실로 진실로 내가 네게 이르노니, 사람이 물에서 나고 성령에게서 나지 아니하면 하나님의 왕국에 들어갈 수 없느니라.
5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6 육에서 난 것은 육이요 성령에게서 난 것은 영이니
6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 내가 네게 이르기를, 너희가 반드시 다시 태어나야 하리라, 한 것에 놀라지 말라.
7 "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'
8 바람이 마음대로 불매 네가 그것의 소리는 들어도 그것이 어디서 와서 어디로 가는지 알지 못하나니 성령에게서 난 사람도 다 이러하니라, 하시니라.
8 "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
9 니고데모가 그분께 응답하여 이르되, 어찌 이런 것들이 있을 수 있나이까? 하매
9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"
10 예수님께서 그에게 대답하여 이르시되, 너는 이스라엘의 선생이면서 이런 것들을 알지 못하느냐?
10 Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?
11 진실로 진실로 내가 네게 이르노니, 우리는 우리가 아는 것을 말하고 우리가 본 것을 증언하노라. 그러나 너희가 우리의 증언을 받아들이지 아니하는도다.
11 "Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.
12 내가 땅의 것들을 너희에게 말하여도 너희가 믿지 아니하거든 내가 하늘의 것들을 너희에게 말하면 어떻게 너희가 믿겠느냐?
12 "If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13 하늘로부터 내려온 자 곧 하늘에 있는 사람의 [아들] 외에는 아무도 하늘에 올라가지 아니하였느니라.
13 "No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
14 ¶ 모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것 같이 사람의 [아들]도 반드시 들려야 하리니
14 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15 이것은 누구든지 그를 믿는 자는 멸망하지 않고 영원한 생명을 얻게 하려 함이니라.
15 "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
16 ¶ 하나님께서 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 자신의 독생자를 주셨으니 이것은 누구든지 그를 믿는 자는 멸망하지 않고 영존하는 생명을 얻게 하려 하심이라.
16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 하나님께서 자신의 [아들]을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 정죄하려 하심이 아니요, 그를 통해 세상을 구원하려 하심이라.
17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 ¶ 그를 믿는 자는 정죄를 받지 아니하거니와 믿지 않는 자는 하나님의 독생자의 이름을 믿지 아니하였으므로 이미 정죄를 받았느니라.
18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 정죄는 이것이니 곧 빛이 세상에 왔으되 사람들이 자기 행위가 악하므로 빛보다 어둠을 더 사랑한 것이니라.
19 "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 이는 악을 행하는 자마다 자기 행위를 책망 받을까 염려하여 빛을 미워하고 또 빛으로 나오지 아니하기 때문이라.
20 "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 그러나 진리를 행하는 자는 빛으로 나오나니 이것은 자기 행위와 또 그 행위가 하나님 안에서 이루어졌음을 나타내려 함이라, 하시니라.
21 "But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."
22 ¶ 이 일들 뒤에 예수님과 그분의 제자들은 유대 땅으로 들어갔고 그분은 거기서 그들과 함께 지내시며 침례를 주시더라.
22 After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized.
23 ¶ 요한도 살림에 가까운 애논에서 침례를 주니 이는 거기에 많은 물이 있었기 때문이더라. 또 그들이 와서 침례를 받으니
23 Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized.
24 이는 요한이 아직 감옥에 갇히지 아니하였기 때문이더라.
24 For John had not yet been thrown into prison.
25 ¶ 그때에 요한의 제자들 중의 몇 사람과 유대인들 사이에 정결하게 하는 일에 대하여 논쟁이 벌어지매
25 Then there arose a dispute between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purification.
26 그들이 요한에게 나아와 그에게 이르되, 랍비여, 선생님과 함께 요르단 건너편에 계시던 분 곧 선생님이 증언하신 분, 바로 그분께서 침례를 주매, 보소서, 모든 사람들이 그분께로 가나이다, 하니
26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!"
27 요한이 응답하여 이르되, 하늘에서 주지 아니하시면 사람이 아무것도 받을 수 없느니라.
27 John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.
28 너희 자신이 나에 대해 증언하되 곧 내가 이르기를, 나는 그리스도가 아니요 그분 앞에 보내어진 자라, 한 것을 증언하느니라.
28 "You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.'
29 신부를 얻는 자는 신랑이나 서서 그의 말을 듣는 신랑의 친구가 신랑의 음성으로 인하여 크게 기뻐하나니 그런즉 나의 이 기쁨이 성취되었노라.
29 "He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.
30 그분은 반드시 흥하여야 하되 나는 반드시 쇠하여야 하리라, 하니라.
30 "He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 위로부터 오시는 분은 모든 것 위에 계시고 땅에서 난 자는 땅에 속하여 땅의 것을 말하느니라. 하늘로부터 오시는 분은 모든 것 위에 계시느니라.
31 "He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
32 그분께서 친히 보고 들은 것을 증언하시되 아무도 그분의 증언을 받아들이지 아니하는도다.
32 "And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony.
33 그분의 증언을 받아들인 자는 하나님께서 진실하시다고 자기 도장에 새겼느니라.
33 "He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true.
34 하나님께서 보내신 분은 하나님의 말씀들을 말하나니 이는 하나님께서 그분에게 성령을 한량없이 주시기 때문이라.
34 "For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.
35 [아버지]께서 [아들]을 사랑하사 모든 것을 그의 손에 맡기셨으니
35 "The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.
36 [아들]을 믿는 자에게는 영존하는 생명이 있고 [아들]을 믿지 않는 자는 생명을 보지 못하며 도리어 하나님의 진노가 그 위에 머물러 있느니라.
36 "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
